When Elliot told me he wanted to ride this huge spillway i knew i had to shoot it. With the runn in being wet grass i wasnt sure about him being able to whiplash this but he nailed it and rode out no probs.

Perspective is something I always strive to achieve in my photography. This zone is one of my favourites for shooting but I sometimes struggle to make it look the way I want. Luckily I had some help from a friend to teach me about tree climbing and I captured this frame on the first day. Winter is coming but I m already looking forward to spring.

there all so good, how do i choose one...

Round 12 was the hardest choice for me, I think both of those could potentially make finals. Sucks one of them is going to go out in the first round

I feel an irresistible urge to be a jerk to someone for no reason at all. Oh...ah... I can't vote today, negprop me, negprop me hard! Gonna eat pop corn ice cream, read love stories, listening to West Life and touching myself - too much steeze up there, Can't take it!

So much better than last years selection .... No idea what to choose!

That is what I was thinking too. There are so many good photos this year .

God, hardest decision ever. First world problems

All these pics are rad, but what's with old photos being submitted for POY???? I thought they had to be taken this year (Nov.2012-2013), not 2011.
  • 1 0
drewbdew - I think people were allowed to nominate anything they wanted from all pics on PB

Toooo hard to choose! Im not going to vote, because there are way to many that deserve this
  • 19 0
I think it's super important to point out that photo of Elliot Jackson, where he's basically laying on the ground.... He rode that out. I... I just don't understand how he did it, but.... he did it..
  • 2 5
Moto style putting his leg out before the turn in. Not that hard to see. It's not like he's using his leg to try and save it, the leg is part of the move.
  • 3 5
He put his leg infront to shift his COG closer to the front tire to maximise the the pressure on it, so knobbys dig in and provide grip, so he wouldn`t wash out.. Familiar actions are seen in MX and speedway.
  • 8 0
Yes gentleman, I'm aware of the mechanics behind it and I know it's not "hard to see". I wasn't saying "oh my god I've never seen someone do this before". The photo was captured at such a point, that even knowing how he did it coupled with the fact he has no motor to propel him out of the turn makes it look impossible to ride out of. Just because I know how he does it doesn't mean I can't be impressed by the fact he CAN do it.

In other words, I'm just expressing my amazement by the photo. Don't take things so literally.
  • 2 1
Neg propped dear Lord okay.... Euhm... Oh well Still, he uses a lot of force kicking his bike back up with his foot. I think all credit goes to the photographer who made this sick shot. Rider is committed but I think it's a tad overrated for sure. Neg prop me all you want. The contest is about the photographer and not the rider.
  • 4 1
 Couple of things:

- They're just props, stop making such a scene about them.
- If that kind of riding is overrated I'd KILL to see how you ride. I would literally kill to see you ride.
- I don't see anyone saying that Elliot deserves to win, In fact I'm fairly certain I'm expressing my enjoyment of the photo and the photographers work. So yeah, you're 100% right this is about the photographer, which is why I'm showing appreciation for their work. The whole reason I pointed out that he rode it out is because I've seen a TON of photos where riders are attempting similar moves and they don't ride out of it. It happens more often than not.

I really don't understand why you're so defensive over the fact that I really like this photo and am impressed by it and the riding. When did that become a crime?
  • 1 0
It's not a crime ;-) maybe your mind plays the sound of my voice a tad too harsh :-P you should know I'm very friendly :-)

I'm not a professional rider I haven't even ever made a single podium so I'm also not that fast or technically mastered.

When I think of riding something out, I don't think of using a foot to bounce back up. Not saying it isn't hard to do but just calling it what it is. Of the hundreds of pictures we all have seen here of people just before they crash and it looks so cool, this sure is one that deserves the notice that he didn't crash. Ride it out, I don't think so. He's just overly aggressive smashing his bike into the berm/dirt.

Hopefully this wasn't too defensive for ya :-P I'm just discussing this with you :-)

About the props, it was a general remark since I got 3 of them.

I started scrolling down thinking ... yep that one.... no that one... no that one... no this one.... Jesus they are all epic !
  • 4 2
Here's Jesus, stop using word epic, it's so old, like when Peter and Simon said it watching me walking up a 20ft waterfall in Jordan.
  • 16 1
Yeah there all good and that but where the f**k is the guy on the road bike with his knee down? I've got £100 on him to win!
  • 8 2
Well that was a stupid thing to do.
  • 3 0

Thanks a ton Charleyboy14! you just made my day.
  • 1 0
Shit that you where put up against Dave, Ive only just been able to vote, wasn't able to on my phone (came up with "bad op"). gutted for you mate. wanted you to win, imho it was the strongest image there.

Then again imo Paris Gore should knock out Sterl. However i don't think that is going to be the case as people will think ooo roost, and totally dismiss the creative and technical ability to Paris' shot. f*cking hate it when that happens
  • 5 1
So many amazing shots here and I'm quite proud to see one of mine up there next to the works of some of my good friends and peers. Glad my voting choice is made easy too this year.
  • 3 0
Out of all the photos, there only three that didn't wow me, but those three are still pretty amazing pictures. Kudos to everyone who got nominated. I take a lot of pictures, some of which I think are pretty good, but when I see these I know I have to step up my game a lot.
  • 7 0
 Margus Riga gets my vote
  • 3 0
So many epic pics this year. And some are going to get the shaft because (enter booming voice) "there can be only one." My head is hurting now. Maybe I should just go ride and come back to this later....
  • 6 0
 damn.
  • 1 0
Makes me wish I would photograph bikes more and submit them Razz Maybe next year!
Some really nice photos there. Love the perspective from David Long's shot. Wasn't there something like that in a movie (can't remember the name now, where it changes through the seasons in the woods)
  • 4 1
So exciting! My prediction is that Trumpore's from the left and Sterling's from the right will make it to the final round. Anybody else have a prediction?
  • 6 0
 Match up 7 ... Ouch
  • 1 0
Great photographs, it's a lottery to try and predict what might win with so much talent in the pool. That said, with the exception of a couple of pairings, choosing the better image wasn't actually that difficult I thought. We all love the action, but If you think more about the photographs elements than just what the rider is doing, it might help you make a decision. Best of luck to all the finalists!
  • 3 1
For me, it's a toss-up between Stef Candé and Paris Gore. Can't decide. There are a few really gorgeous photo's that could have been taken by anyone at the same location, but also a few that are really good and creative.
  • 1 0
The talent of the photographers is amazing. I was riding the weekend and there were some college students out taking photos of the sunset and they asked if they could snap some shots of me riding and as as soon as they sent them to me via email I was in awe!!! Made me feel like I was a professional rider. Props to all who made it to the top 32....going to be a tough vote for the next 16.
  • 1 0
There are some seriously amazing shots here. I feel so lucky to be apart of this. Even though given the competition, i think my luck is about to end. Good Luck to all the photobros here. You are truly inspirational.

 lots of over editing

Congrats to all the photographers, I will not be voting since i believe that all these photographers have incredible talent and that if i could i would tell them all that they did a fantastic job and thank them for their hard work.
  • 1 0
I am a bit confused why Yeti Cyles would want to win a Spec Demo...Must be jealous...The photo is amazing and bragging rights to have the best picture alone is prize enough...Just thought it was a bit humorous.
  • 2 0
Ok... seriously?! How the hell am I supposed to choose?! They are all so amazing!
  • 3 0
Matchup 12 was brutal. Both of those shots deserve to advance.
  • 1 0
I honestly cannot pick a picture!! They are all amazing in their own, unique way!! Divide the prize among all of them, they all deserve it!

Two picks from San Francisco....sweet. There are other things besides Liberals, Clam Chowder, the Golden Gate Bridge, Gays, and Hipsters in SF.

Worst thing about pinkbike....... Voting for POY
  • 1 0
How are you supposed to. These photographers got serious talent. The only one I think got ruined is the kids playing basketball, they should have been watching the rider.
  • 2 0
Laurence Crossman-Emms for me. His work at the world cups etc this year has been fantastic.
  • 2 0
If only us mere mortals could have a chance at taking an epic picture such as the above ones.

these are almost all Professional Photographers, you got NO chance in the world with petty iPhone shots by real people riding real trails, just saying!!!
  • 3 1
Not everyone on the list are full time professionals. Even the ones who are ride real trails and for the most part real people except for the few mutants out there that blow everyone's mind.
  • 2 3
..picture from a petty iphone isn't what i call photography and i'm confident false people ain't existing, exept for politicians... ain't really sure about them.
