I'm out. I break all the rules Frown
  • 41 2
I hope they change the rules because I have green eyes!

yea im fed up with thisd shit of all the contests are us and canada only its shit we could pay for the extra shipping. KHS and all other comps on pinkbike to comemtake note ae!
  • 18 1
I'll enter and if I win I'll ship it to you at your expense for free.
  • 9 7
More chances for me to win XD
  • 60 11
Contests like this count as lotteries and have to follow regulations on lotteries and gambling.
  • 19 11
Seriously? Negative propping pointing out the truth and facts?
  • 12 6
I have green eyes too... LOL! MAKE IT INTERNATIONAL! What a discrimination! Everyone lost so many contests because of this rule, but i think everyone want to take part in such contests!
  • 5 1
I think it has something to do with trade rules rather than those of KHS (or any other bike company)
  • 7 2
While I don't know for sure, I'm willing to put down good money that the reason they limit these to 18 and over and to the US and Canada are mostly for legal and tax reasons. Transactional costs to comply with all the legal and tax obligations attendant to a prize winner overseas may be more than the cost of the bike itself. And/or, their marketing focus may be more limited to the US and Canada (though that seems dumb to me). Just mey 2 cents...
  • 9 2
Is it really such a suprise that a Canadian website took an American Contest from an American bike company and made it limited to the USA and Canada?
Relax guys, there will be more contests.
KHS has their reasons. They didn't do it "Just cause" or for discrimination purposes.
  • 8 4
It could be worse... americans have to pay income tax on lottery winnings, contest prizes, and so forth. If a US citizen wins the bike, they're gonna be on the hook for the value against their income tax.

most of the international contests are won by those outside north america anyway.
  • 2 1
I think, it will be too pricey to come through the custom control of any country except USA or Canada and some other difficulties. Just saying.
  • 10 1
I'll offer my address to anyone who wants to enter that live outside the US and Canada. I can guarantee delivery to you if you win. However, I can't grantee when that will happen or that your bike will be received in 'new' condition. Wink

You can all quit bitchin' bout the un-fairidness of the contest rules. Life is not fair. Deal with it. I deal with it by riding bikes and smoking joints. Besides, I am going to win it anyway.

Boxo-I was with you all the way until your last sentence.

WTF!? I am living in Ukraine, and what i see? Every interesting contest is only for US\ Canada! Make it International! Why other countries should be out?! Because you won't have money for shipping this bike?- Then why do you organise it! Change the f*cking rules!!!!!
  • 3 1
is it me or those this frame looks alot like the giant glory frame?
  • 7 1
If you win it treat you're self to a Whistler trip and get it sent to your hotel upon arrival. That would be Winning
  • 7 4
How about instead of bitching about not being able to have a hand out, get a job, work your ass off, and buy whatever bike you want... Then you can sit back and laugh at all the trivial comments on a stupid contest. BTW, I entered the contest..

Americans: A mysterious sub-breed of people who only know what exits within their own country (mainly cheese and beef) and have no care what goes on outside of their own little world called america land!, Uneducated, overweight but most of all ignorant. Not all of them of course, just most! no offence intended of course Smile
  • 40 7
Jonsey, alittle butthurt there eh. I'm sure you've ammased all that wisdom about Americans in your what I assume (looking at user name) 17 years of life.
  • 4 0
O rly, are they the only one who don't know something different than their country? Big Grin However, I can't see what is the problem to include other parts from the world? Even if the winer has to pay the shipment to his country.
  • 20 5
You guys get chainreaction cycles low prices... we get contests... fair's fair.
  • 17 6
Jonesey1995: It is comments like that which get us nowhere and perpetuate a lack of understanding and respect across borders. You just proved how hypocritically uneducated and ignorant you are about the rest of the world as well. You're no better.
  • 11 3
No, most Americans aren't like that. Sorry. I don't understand how this went from bikes to this.
"silly trivial bike contest didn't go my way.
Better shag on everything America."
  • 42 9
Oh which way will the props go with this one....

How does an american change a lightbulb ?

He just holds onto it and waits for the world to revolve around him.
  • 10 1
I'm pretty sure the reason this contest is only in NORTH AMERICA because of the company's distribution. And people, don't get upset and call UNITED STATES citizens arrogant or fat or anything of those likes because this contest includes Canada and Mexico also and we didn't choose to make this contest and I bet KHS has a good reason for the contest only being in NA
  • 6 5
..I can't believe such discriminatory crap like that gets +7 props.
Come on pinkbike. I thought we were better than this.
  • 8 2
Are you new here? This is pinkbike... not dirtrag... that so many are whining about not being eligible to get something for free should have been clue enough that maturity isn't why people come here.
  • 6 2
Compared to the rest of the crap I've seen on internet forums and other websites, Pinkbike has the best community hands down. Still, kind of sad how a mere contest for a free bike brings this out in some people.

/ˌprēdīˈjest/
Verb
(of an animal) Treat (food) by a process similar to digestion in order to make it more digestible when subsequently eaten.

There you go, that's what you all are!
  • 2 0
 Nice one
  • 5 4
Contests like this USED to have to include a skill testing question... which was usually math based because they assumed people could read & write already if they were entering contests... apparently in the UK that hasn't ever been required.
  • 6 0
 alternative meaning of "simply predigest":
a term used to describe the behavior of others who are often stuck in old ways and partake in discrimination, to behave like someone from before the 1850's aka the pre digestive era (the time when the digestive biscuit was invented see-http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digestive_biscuit)

The ones who are saying this bike sucks have you even tried this bike?

KHS makes nice quality bikes and they and this is for visibiliy and marketing. They were probably wanting to increase their share of the north American Market.

I personnaly dont ride a KHS right now but its not because I would not like to. Its because we seldom see them in Quebec stores.

'Bicycle must be shipped to physical address in United States or Canada'.

So you can basically participate in the contest regardless of where you are, provided you can have it shipped to a friend or family's address in US/Canada.

Don't ask me why but I've always wanted a KHS Witch Doctor and have tried finding a frame for years now with no luck. Despite all the people that bith and whine about KHS's bikes, I like em. Are they cutting edge or do they have the best components? Nope. I think they do offer good frames with full component sets though that are worthy of upgrading.

Deeeight is correct, Aside from the actual governing laws, there are very specific sections of the internal revenue code (u.s. tax code) that will disallow companies from conducting operations in foreign countries and even states (unless they want to get hit with paying a HUGE tax).

For example, a few years ago a company for whom I worked on their SALT (state and local) returns ended up having to pay an additional $200,000+ in taxes due to an employee that worked in a state where they had no physical presence. Because they generated income, even a small amount from that particular state.
  • 1 0
Please, KHS have distributors all round the world, Are they not already conducting operations in foreign countries.

in Canada and US the bikes are too cheap.... make this international because i can't buy a Kona Entourage or a Specialized Status that here costs 5k dollars the basic ones....
  • 2 1
Hey bud try using your head. Most bikes here in the US are well over 5k. The cheapest new bike would be a statues for about 4,500 which is pretty close to 5k. As for a entourage, that's about 6k here.
  • 2 1
Dude an entourage runs for 5-6k here.
  • 1 1
Thanks for proving my point. Ya they're about 5-6k. 4,500 if you can find a great deal
  • 1 1
Or you buy a cadabra on PB for 1800..guy used it twice
  • 1 0
The Status and Entourage both retail for around 2700 here, there is no way they should cost more than that.... The entry level Demo is 4500 so an Entourage for 6000 would be ridiculous.
  • 1 1
You my friend live somewhere where bikes are dirt cheap. In my home town an entry level demo 8 2 that has been demoed by a shop for 2 years. But yes the entry level demo 8 is 4,500 but when you factor in shipping and build expenses it's about 5k. As for the status and entourage, I could buy a 11 status at my local shop for 2800 and it has been used for 2 years and I'm positive the entourage is at least 4750 at the entry level
  • 2 1
Thats funny cause I find most bikes are more expensive in Victoria than other places I have been. You might want to change shops if they're charging for shipping and building of new bikes. Also the Status is new this year where would they get a 2011?
  • 3 0
 Well that's because it's Victoria.
Bike shops aren't expensive in Victoria unless you're buying Carbon Road bikes or road bikes in general. I lived there (langford area) for beyond 3 years and I can tell you we get rooked further up north after the shipping/handling costs are put into the sales price. The shops have to do it to make an income.
The status will run for 2,900 or 3,500. That is expected. But the Entourage always runs for 5-6k, at least up here it will. A Demo will easily go for either 6-7k depending on model. Sometimes even 8k!
  • 1 1
@keeqan: The first status bikes were released in the 2011/2012 season. They have just improved on it since then to produce a better product, but they were still the first status bikes
  • 1 0
cbrider, your LBS is selling them above MSRP?! Never heard of that.
  • 1 0
I know, it is completely ridiculous, which is why I have to buy online or be ripped off completely. But, the shops do have to make a profit I guess so....
  • 1 0
Giant, Spec, Trek are much cheaper in NA..
  • 1 0
Stop complainning about the price and come live in brazil.... everything is expensive here just food it isn't so expensive.....
A chevrolet camaro is 125K dollars here and the Specialized Demo s-works is 18K... ( how much is a Demo Carbon 1 in vancouver? )
  • 1 1
Ok I'm pretty sure you're the one complaining about prices. And if you expect me or anyone else to believe that a demo one carbon is 18k have fun. On the specialized website it's only 6,600 and Cuban money has the same value as American money. Sure they may have to ship it to a shop there, but that cannot add more than 200 dollars to the price, not 11,400 dollars extra. I have no idea where you come up with these prices but they are total crap, learn your bikes.

I'm still waitin to win my lucky 7 Smile
  • 1 0
@epavich maybe the Entourage DL? you cant charge 5000 for a bike with domains on it if youre only selling the status for about 3000. Also while bikes are not bad here (lots of shops = competitive pricing) south of the border gets way cheaper. Also I work in a shop, that carries both Spec and Kona, we dont charge shipping or a building fee.
  • 1 1
Well it is not stop complaining about the prices is the people complaining about what i said.... ( see the links below )

Good point. But i still will never believe they cost that much. They would NEVER sell any bikes if they charged that much. It would be cheaper to buy one in America and ship it over there, which is what everyone should do. You can't charge more for a product in one place than in another, no one in brazil buys from the website, and they know it. Those prices are ridiculous, maybe fake.
  • 2 1
No, these prices are the base prices, sellers should sell for that price less is "impossible"... ( i'm friend of local bike shop owner and know him for 15 years i see his buys, prices, taxes and everything since i'm economy and law student and sometimes i help him organize some papers and bills

No wondr you never hear of DH riders from Brazil Smile Smile

Yeah sorry Keeqan, I assumed we were talking about that version.
and I'm not talking about the building/shipping fees per se, but the bikes are all marked up naturally. Like any Retail Store.

Contests like these have to follow laws governing lotteries and gambling, especially when its a high value price being offered.
