The video does the track no justice. I'll admit, a few of the fontana tracks have been a bit "enduro-ish" but this one was GNARLY. The rock sections are much worse, and everything is steeper, and MUCH siltier than shown. And remember, these KHS guys are sick. And yes, Gwin was there. He killed it until he had a flat. Ill give ya that the Wall does kill a bit of it, but it just makes you pace yourself, train your endurance, and learn to sprint effectively. Also throws in a bit of strategy with Type of bike, suspension set up, etc. It's one location in socal, and people are comparing it to Europe... Only a bit of a size and terrain difference...
surprise surprise, another negative comment on the track there. Funny too that Aron Gwinn often races this track and has had two of the most dominant seasons ever racing on euro dh tracks.
KHS video guys, please choose some less vulgar music for your next videos... others nice job!
Haha @donpinpon29! Maybe these DH races are just disguised at good trainings for the top American Enduro Racers that are constantly on top of your precious Euro Enduro podiums!
Wait a minute...hold on, that didn't make any sense! Shit, are we good at anything?
Lower section looks like a lot of flat pedalling for a dh race. One rock garden section where crowd was looks gnarly but rest is almost like an enduro race. Now i know why they are running single crown bikes.
Fontucky ran the sprint at the finish long before Enduro was a thing. Maybe it's not the best DH course on the planet, but it's local, cheap to race, beginner friendly, best crowd in the pits anywhere, and you can race through the winter.
Hopefully this year's terrible winter will light a fire under Big Bear or Summit's ass to bring a WC race back to SoCal.
Love the KHS group and guys. Fantastic, nice people. Stop complaining about Fontana being not DH enough. It's a good course for where it is and how it started. What about Seat Otter? Every pro is there, and it's a Super D course with the winner of the DH on a 29er. If you want DH, come ride Bootleg Canyon. That'll harden you the f*ck up and usually shuts everyone up too. But that's too extreme you say!! By the way, Logan kills it there all the time. Everyone has courses of flavor to benefit their taste, so in a race series, that's why they are different, spreads it out. Fontana is a warm up series so-to-speak for the real WC/US Gravity series. Next time you speak up, ride the course first, then get back us.
I did a race there for the first time a few weeks ago. It's a pretty fun mountain, and the top half of the track was reasonably technical and challenging, but without the flat part it would just be too short.
The reality of racing bikes in California is that there are only a few places that will let you. The environment is too precious to ride bikes on (but if you are a developer, by all means, pave away).
The reason there is so much coverage is because this is one of the only race series that happens during winter. The progrt races and underworld cup races are a completely different monster
would be cool, but they definitely would need to make a real dh track. one that is steep and natural. and considering they are only adding 1 new trail this year that is a green "flow" trail, I doubt we will see a real track anytime soon
did a race like that but double the time , fast guys where in the high 3min low 4min range and it was hell LOL . i ran in the 5min range damn near hyperventilated towards the end .
Tracks always look week in video but I was there that track was gnarly except for the end there is a lot of pedaling because it's a small mountain/hill.
