Angi Weston is all about bikes: she’s a sales rep out of our Bellingham office and spends her weekends as a professional mountain bike coach focusing on women’s skills clinics. She’s a shredder, but more than that, an enabler of others to push their own riding and to become more comfortable riding technical terrain.

Angi Weston - My Kona

As a growth-minded teacher and mentor, Angi sees the challenges we face with mountain biking as positive practice for challenging situations elsewhere in life.

bigquotesThe world needs more people, especially women and girls, who have more faith in their abilities on a bike, and in life. - Angi Weston

Ah yes, Angi truly is a rider, finding those parallels so she can continue to think about bikes just a little bit longer.

Angi Weston - My Kona

Kona Process 134 DL Supreme
Angi's weapon of choice, the Process 134.

About Kona:
At Kona, we're all about the freedom and empowerment of the bicycle. We have been since 1988. We still have the same founding owners. We're still populated by a staff of keen, active, impassioned cyclists. We're not big, nor are we that small. Just a dedicated group of cyclists making bicycles for people who love bikes - no matter if that love is new or long established.

Ran into Angi while she was scouting some trails on Galbi for a clinic the next day. Friendly nod and howzit turned into her asking how I liked my Process 111 and what my wife thought of her Juliana, and then next thing you know she was just spilling over with friendly enthusiasm, some great advice, and all sorts of stoke. Good ambassador for Kona, even better ambassador for the sport.

Hey thanks! I remember running into you too, I'm always up for making new friends on the trails so don't be a stranger. Cheers!

Heck yeah Angi! Rad edit, totally makes me want to go ride - together if possible!

Yes, please! Can hardly wait until our single track paths cross again, Rachelle!

My first FS bike is going to be a Process 134. Even if I have to sell my kidney
  • 13 15
Don't. It sure must be one of the most sensible full suspension bikes around for the riding most people do, but that kidney is going to help your riding more than any better bike.
  • 21 0
Just sell it. Its definitely worth it.
  • 10 1
Kona are the best bargains out there maybe you dont have to sell any body part
  • 4 0
Most of the people that I know with kidneys suck at mountain biking. I'd say there's a strong correlation, in fact.
  • 2 0
Don't know about Denmark, but here it was the cheapest FS bike with 1x11 and Pike + Monarch. Must be because of the bad reputation they used to have. Anyway, I enjoy my 134 DL. Spoiled it a bit with Hadley + ASYM i29 rear wheel, though stock wheels are not bad at all.

In Poland Kona is ridiculously expensive. No one even considers it. A Process 134 DL costs 500EUR more than a Giant Reign 1.5, let alone Trance or any trail bike, maybe except Whyte.

Odds on the kidney being sold: 80 to 1.

Great positive stuff, if countries were run by ladies like this the world wouldn't be so fxxked up !!

Angi was my first instructor when I took a jumping clinic at the Lumberyard through Sweetlines. I'll never forget her infectious positive energy! It gave me the confidence to try things on my bike I didn't think I would do.
  • 3 0
Awwww heck yeah, Lalena, I remember that! I too loved your crazy energy right away. Let's shred soon! Cheers!

I've loved how my Process 134 can do seriously anything from local dirt jumps to bike parks and every trail in between.
  • 6 0
That's our girl! One of the best coaches, most amazing humans and raddest lady-shredders around!

Thanks, Love! Fun times ahead in 2017, no doubt!

I live next door to some really cool spots that would have been called freeride back in the day. I am seriously considering a 153DL, it's seem like it'd be the perfect bike now I don't get so much time to take my enduro bike to the real trails. Plus I could actually ride the correct size for me (a small) and not have a stupidly short reach and still be able to race it every now and then...not so sure about the stupidly short chainstays but I think I need a demo. Anyone got the 2016? Whatcha think to it?
  • 3 0
I've demoed it more than once and my friend has the '15 which is the same frame. It's not the best climber (better than some others) but it's a super fun bike to ride. It's really playful on the descents and encourages you to take the extra little side jumps, I was smiling and having a great time on every descent. My friend got his for the same reasons you're looking at it and found it to be perfect.

I have my 153 since it came out in 2014, and upgraded it gradually to my perfect bike, you know suspension, brakes drive train, wheels, to the point that I can't think about a better bike to own right now... it does everything I need it to do, very well, and it is built solid. this is my first Kona, and I am definitely a happy camper
  • 4 0
The 153 is still one of my all time favs..wheelies so easy and is def mini dh.
  • 3 0
I got a 2015 153 DL, I love all the bikes I own but my enjoyment of the Kona is probably top of the pile. Its not the lightest out there but it goes uphills fine and goes like stink downhills. Raced DH on in at FJMTB and did better than I do my big rig, loves jumps and manuals like a peach. Defo a buy on site!
  • 1 0
Thanks for the replies guys! Maybe the next bike for me. The fact that the 2017 small is the same size as the mediums ive been riding for the last 6 years is very appealing, finally I can have some stand over clearance! Just wish they'd make the chainstays a bit longer...
  • 2 0
@ThomDawson: I found a short stays a real benefit tbh, manuals like a peach and is very easy to flick around stuff, its long in the front which makes it easier to climb and stable
  • 1 0
@usmbc-co-uk: short chainstays are not for me! If they were 10mm longer I would have no excuse to get myself a Kona. I'll test ride one for sure but I know I'll hate the chainstays

Not shown was the fact that she can straight up send it on larger features! Nice one Angi!!

Had the privilege of coaching with Angi at Sugar Showdown a few years back. Great personality, great coach, great rider and great video! Great to see you in the spotlight Angi!
  • 2 0
Thanks, Lynne! Will you be at Sugar Showdown again this year? I'd love to coach and shred with you again soon. Keep up all the good work and building the stoke in Scotland and beyond. Cheers!

Hey, be nice, they've just been hit with a snowstorm in Portland and they don't know what to do!
  • 3 0
@konaworld: Ha! True. If you know Sellwood though, you know calling them jerks is actually a compliment. Ha!
  • 4 0
So were some of those "students" ringers or is Angi just a really good teacher. Either way I'm impressed with the aggro riding of teacher and students alike.
  • 2 0
Ha! Both?!? Haha! Some of the video clips are from the day before the clinic where all of us coaches pre-ride the trails and work on our lesson plans for the weekend. We have some pretty advanced students that come to our clinics too though.

You go girl! Talk about an awesome roll model. It's people like you that make this sport great Smile
  • 3 0
Thank you, it's my pleasure to do my small part!
  • 3 0
 Angi Weston is my spirit-animal!

I agree that the 134 is the best all-around bike in the Process platform. It rides "small" and "big" all at once...you can't ask for more out of a bike.
  • 3 0
Ha! I am flattered. Thanks Smile

If you ever need a water boy I'm in! @angiweston what is a piece of advice you would give someone looking into becoming a certified coach?
  • 4 0
Ha! Thanks for the offer, I will keep that in mind! If you want to become a certified coach I'd look into taking a clinic first to see if you like it and to see if there are any skills you need to hone first. Then check out the IMBA program to see if there are any cert classes in your area. www.imba.com/icp Have fun and good luck!

@Angi: Right on, thanks for the info!

it is obvious the bike is not hers, as women only ride purple, aqua and pink bikes... joke on "other" brands with "women" specific models.

Solid rider for sure and I think she's a great ambassador.

  • 4 0
Thanks! I sure hope it helps!
  • 5 0
...and she rides flats. You go girl.
  • 4 1
Personally I think the 134 is a little unnecessary when the 153 is so good but god I love the color Scheme on that bike.
  • 3 0
