this is a good video for a contour HD, you can see the bike, the person ahead and the helmet. im pretty happy with the result and its smooth!

thats HD ? sort of put me of buying one, quality looks awful! and its depends on what settings they're running at, 30fps will make it look rougher but will be overall better quality, whereas 720p 60fps is generally good enough for a POV shot
  • 34 3
I think the GoPro is a lot better. I personally have the HD Hero 2 and it is awesome!
  • 8 7
Bud I meant to pos prop u and I agree with u too,my bad neg propping
  • 32 5
Every single helmet cam video all you guys do is complain. Just enjoy the video ,if you cant because contours "suck" then dont no one is making you, but dont start a pointless argument that will never end.

I don't see much arguing bud, looks like most people saying they like gopro vids over contour vids. I get the complaining though, nobody wants to hear that.

OH MY GOD LOOK AT THE nevermind.....
  • 11 0
watching that gave me arm pump!
  • 5 3
 made me seasick
  • 9 1
kept trying to "Look Up".. seemed it was aimed a little low..
GoPro seems faster looking, with wider angle view..get more peripheral vision that shows more speed..
tough track.. can only imagine what it would be like in the pissing rain.. holy hell.. Congrats again, Danny.
  • 8 2
I agree with the video quality not being great, but the whole GPS thing still is cool! GoPro 4 life
  • 8 3
 Problems are the following:

- camera was not mounted securely enough
- should have been mounted on the side of the helmet, not the top
- video flashplayer does not play 720 60p footage well enough
- yours/our monitors don't play 720 60p streaming from the web well enough, PAL 50p seems to play well

This will result in a bad viewer experience. This is not the camera's fault. The solution is to (in order of importance):

- remount the camera more securely
- re-work the H264 web encoding for less motion artifacts
- create a better flash player to better handle 60fps material
- or re-render the video to 30fps if #2 cannot be solved

I use a Countour GPS and even though I don't go as fast as Danny (obviously), mine is never this bumpy! I use the goggle strap, and put it on 720p, 60 fps. It is always smooth and never rough or jittery. I actually convinced a buddy to switch from gopro to contour. I wouldn't use this video as a deciding factor between gopro and countour...
  • 4 0
your right^ they need to be set up properly to compare each helmet camera. mine was bumpy at the start then as i learnt how to set it up, it became perfect for what it do
  • 1 0
It probably wasn't mounted securely enough.
  • 5 1
 cough cough gopro
  • 2 1
any camera will do that when your going that fast on a track that bumpy
  • 3 1
Its not the camera, Hart is too fast
  • 3 2
Or you just buy a GoPro and never worry about video flashplayer shit. I hate how they play in a different format and not just Pinkbike video format
  • 2 0
you dont need one, i have a contour and you dont need one
  • 1 0
 It does here though
  • 1 0
yeah i havent used the contour website yet
  • 40 0
i feel sorry for the guy near the end. imganie having hart tearing down on you and you cant go any faster then you crash and he almost hits you.
  • 2 0
Looked like Gee Atherton's kit and bike..
  • 3 0
Defs not. Gee doesn't ride with an 888..
  • 2 1
i recon Danny could have said something! a quick "you alright bro?" was all he needed to say! he wouldn't even have needed to stop. i have respect for danny's skill but when a rider crashes in front of you........
neg prop me if you want but thats my honest opinion
  • 2 0
it wasnt a bad crash. it was just a slip he was obviously alright but it wouldnt of been hard to give him a bit of a confidence boost.
  • 24 0
He kept farting the whole way
  • 20 2
the contour handles light transitions much better than gopro, but it's still not wide angle enough, and the audio needs help (though so does gopro)
  • 3 3
Contour plus has 170 angle, just as HD hero 2. Personally have both, prefer contour for much simpler design and not sticking out as a windsail.
  • 15 2
I have -20 outside my window... bikeride today will be stupid Smile

  • 12 1
the footage looks sped up but then i remembered it was Danny Hart
  • 10 4
It's not often we get to see the world through the eyes of the fastest guy by 11 seconds. Hopefully you can put aside your one brand vs. another battles and just enjoy the video for what it is: Danny's amazing talent on an extremely difficult track.
  • 9 0
It is a shame you cant see the front tire to find the exact line he chose but he is so fast!
  • 5 19
flag steezysam FL (Feb 4, 2012 at 0:22) (Below Threshold)
why, because you were planning to ride all his lines just like that?
  • 4 0
@ManuelMTB, that's my favorite thing about these videos too. I love seeing line choices.
  • 2 0
Tbh. Looking at the parts of track he has chosen I'm pretty sure in the critical places I'm sure you wouldn't go with his lines. They are really insane.
  • 1 0
Actually I think he kind of blew threw a couple corners going wide, but then on the last switchback before the finish straight he absolutely rips. For a quick second you get to see his brake manipulation, and he feathers really well.
  • 1 0
I think in the dry some of the wide sections are much faster.
  • 5 0
If only my avids stopped me like that...
  • 1 0
 I love juicy's!!
  • 1 0
I knew it was steep, terribly steep, but I never knew it was that rough and rocky. Can't imagine riding that in the dry, let alone wet and slippery. Kudos to ALL the people who've ridden that track, especially Tahnée Seagrave ( dirt.mpora.com/news/tahne-seagrave-champery-edit.html ).
  • 4 0
acording to the altermeter, the track only drops about 240ft? there's no way that's right
  • 2 0
you're right! the track starts in 1620m and ends at 1055m! (bikepark.ch/bike-vtt/files/file/images/Coupe%20du%20monde.jpg)
  • 1 0
i was going to say, that looks steeper than only 240ft elevation loss lol
  • 1 0
It's steep as fuck. Steepest WC track on the circut by a lot. Damn near vertical
  • 1 0
Still might be the sickest run I have ever seen, reminiscent of a similar third place rain run Sam Hill mad a few years ago (I wish I could remember what race that one was) God luck to the man this coming season!

 Sam Hill, Champery 2007...
  • 1 0
Thanks! That's the one, just checked it out again!
  • 1 0
Er on the side of tilting your camera upward more so than downward. Moving on. The whole time watching Danny's footage, I thought about what it would be like to ride that track in the muck. Danny Hart...Jezus, that boy must have received a dose of gamma rays at some point, 'r something. I can do bar turns and skids.
  • 1 0
 Got a couple of questions..
1: Why does Danny mount his contour on top instead of side? It gives better feed back and at his tier of riding, its much for stable (in the video the camera slid to the left a considerable amount)
2: What do those whistles represent? Are they placed at regular intervals along the track so your know your progress? Just curious.
  • 1 0
 they're marshalls, i guess it's so people know there's a rider coming
  • 1 0
Hear the clicking in the video? and the correlated shaky video? Thats the two piece goggle mount! I sandwich a piece of cloth there to prevent this. I love the profile of the camera, cant stand the mounts though.
  • 1 0
Whats with the officials with the Referee whistles posted every so far down the track? They seem to whistle as he goes by, is that to alert the officials farther down the track a rider is coming?
  • 3 0
They're called Marshalls and they're posted everywhere you couldn't see someone coming from, twisty sections, drop-offs or crests, blind corners. They blow the whistle when they see a rider coming so that anyone (down hill) who couldn't see them knows to get off the track quick before there's an accident.
Problems only really happen then when the spectators don't know this. A friend of mine found a woman right in the middle of the track just after a drop-off last year and nearly busted himself to shit avoiding her. He wasn't furious with her (well, OK, just a little bit) but more with the rest of the spectators for not saying anything to her.
They also help riders know if someone's coming up from behind & about to overtake them, so they can best plan where to make a space to let them pass.
Marshall's are the unsung heros of all racing, from regional to international. Without them we couldn't race, it's as simple as that.
You also have them in motorsport (but without whistles everytime a competitor goes past) to help in case of accidents.

Thats his practice run hes feeling out the course is race run is much faster. Its a cool video because you can tell he is trying to memorize each turn and where he needs to break and where he needs to pin it.
  • 1 0
the track and the rider was amazing, the camera wasnt what i spect in the speed but the low shaking in the helmed was enought good for see all the track and the line of danny ;D
  • 3 0
Any one who can make it down with out comming off is a nutter.
  • 3 0
YES!!!! why haven't i seen this before?
  • 1 0
cuz it was, until just before, unreleased footage!
  • 5 0
Danny's been a busy guy since winning Worlds. He just posted it up this week and we got it to you guys on Pinkbike as soon as we could.
  • 2 0
man that kid is fast. Its also interesting to note that he matched this time in the final run when it was a mud slide
  • 1 0
Only three words, steep, narrow and nasty After a few days of rain mountain is not dry today so it will be a perfect DH conditions. Enjoy your snow, we dont get any.
  • 2 0
That track looks crazy enough without the pouring rain and mud! I still can't believe how well he rode it in the finals.
  • 2 0
Great vid, but it's just not the same without the brittish announcer screaming at the top of his voice throughout the run.
  • 1 0
Looks like he's plodding down to me. Definitely not trying too hard.

This however www.youtube.com/watch?v=VniQqEE2S1c
  • 1 0
it does not matter- does it? it was a practice run... let me remind you who went WOW in the real run...
  • 1 0
Yeah Brosnan had worse conditions and had the second fastest time of the day and he's a junior...
  • 1 0
It seems that this guy's cool. Going away or will a new champion? Time will tell. I like this guy and take the bike.
  • 1 0
real dh track a rider with big HART! wish to be there like the guy who is falling in front of danny!
  • 2 0
Danny as always on top but terrible sound in video
  • 2 1
Contour Roam vs GoPro Helmet Hero I own both and in my opinion the GoPro has been better.
  • 1 0
at some points in that vid the wind made it sounds like he was riding a 450
  • 1 0
It seems like when riders put the cam on the helmet is aimed to low, It gives barley any view of the trail
  • 1 0
I think the GPS part is messed up.. Champery is obviously more than 250 vertical feet
  • 1 0
Hes so fast that the end looks like its in fast forward
  • 1 0
I quit. how the hell is he so fast!
  • 1 0
There was me thinking it was speeded up. No ? Oh dear
  • 1 0
damn so tech, imagine riding that course in the rain...
  • 2 1
After seeing footage like that, ill stick to the GoPro thanks
  • 1 1
SO Thats how he does it! He farts down the entire run! Extra propulsion, anyone?
  • 2 1
I like rob warner's run better!!
  • 1 0
 He's a bit good really...
  • 1 2
gd only if it was on a gopro would be some much better, could see what was going on
  • 1 1
the quality is shocking for the price youd pay for one of those!
  • 1 1
looks like the camera had to shit
  • 1 1
doesn't look like he is going as fast as he really is
  • 1 1
it looks like he is going slower than he really is
  • 1 1
This track is maybe the hardest track what I´ve ever seen !!
  • 2 1
 this is real dh track!!!
  • 1 1
Surely a legend in the making, local lad, cant match his bike handling.
  • 1 1
I'm hoping to see several pros' helmet cams this season, very cool!
  • 1 2
the contours seem like they suck shit after watching that vid
  • 1 1
