Local bike organizations lend support to put on the ‘Sturdy Dirty Enduro’ race in Olympia’s Capitol ForestSturdy B*tch Racing, a Seattle-based mountain bike team dedicated to promoting women in mountain biking through racing, organized rides and community events, announced plans to host Washington State’s first ever women-specific mountain bike enduro race on June 14, 2014 in Olympia, Washington.
The team has partnered with mountain bike organizations Friends of Capitol Forest, Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance, and Cascadia Dirt Cup to put on the inaugural race, which the team hopes to make an annual event.
Event Details:
Who: Sturdy B*tch Racing
What: Sturdy Dirty Enduro Mountain Bike Race
Where: Capitol Forest (near Olympia, Washington)
When: June 14, 2014
The race will be held in Capitol Forest just west of Olympia, and women with any mountain biking experience are invited to attend. The event will offer new racers an opportunity to try out enduro racing in a low pressure, supportive and fun environment on a course still challenging enough for seasoned racers to enjoy.
As is typical of enduro racing, the Sturdy Dirty Enduro will feature several timed segments interspersed with untimed transition zones. Sturdy Dirty racers will experience smooth and fast singletrack, a trail with some technical and rocky sections, a trail never before featured in a mountain bike race, and a steeper flow trail with optional jumps and drops as well as easier options throughout. The untimed sections will offer opportunities for racers to relax and socialize.
“
We hope to grow the community of women who race by offering a fun, low-pressure enduro on some of our favorite trails,” said Sturdy B*tch Racing spokeswoman Ady Bee Lane. “While our team loves racing and looks forward to seeing fellow racers at the event, we understand how intimidating racing can be, especially when you’re first starting out. Our goal is to break down some of those barriers by highlighting the fun and sense of community that can be found at a race.”
All spectators are welcome, and fun costumes are encouraged. Men and women interested in lending support are invited to participate as volunteers at aid stations, food booths, massage stations and transition zones. Following the race there will be food and beverages, an award ceremony with prizes and a raffle, and an after party, where racers and supporters can connect and learn about upcoming events in the community.
Sponsors for the event include Friends of Capitol Forest, Cascadia Dirt Cup, Georgetown Brewing, Liv/Giant, Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance, Sweetlines, Dirty Jane, Muddbunnies, and others. For more information about the event, visit
