by Jonathan Lamb
The 4th stop of the 2014 Pro GRT brought us to Snowshoe, West Virginia for a weekend of super rocky racing.

Pro GRT - 4 Snowshoe 2014
Welcome to West Virginia where you can get a mothers day card and a spare pistol mag all in a one stop shop. Former homes and barns like this litter the rolling hills.

Pro GRT - 4 Snowshoe 2014
Flat city. Do you know how to set up ghetto tubeless?

Pro GRT - 4 Snowshoe 2014
Snowshoe trail crew hard at work on Thursday afternoon. The track was only open to walking on Thursday.

Pro GRT - 4 Snowshoe 2014
Snowshoe has a little more elevation than we're used to on the east coast. Abby takes in the view on the way back up.

Pro GRT - 4 Snowshoe 2014
With no real rain for the past week or so the flat sweeping corners out in the open got more and more dusty as practice went on.

Pro GRT - 4 Snowshoe 2014
Luca Cometti stuck behind traffic.

Pro GRT - 4 Snowshoe 2014
Luca took 5th on race day, his best National result this year.

Pro GRT - 4 Snowshoe 2014
Alex Willie in the upper woods. The contrast between bright sunlight and dark shadows in the dense woods makes seeing the square edge rocks hit or miss.

Pro GRT - 4 Snowshoe 2014
Cody Johnson in said rocks. It's all about staying light in the right spots to avoid pinching.

Pro GRT - 4 Snowshoe 2014
Pinging off rocks like these puts the hurt on hoops.

Pro GRT - 4 Snowshoe 2014
Kiran Mackinnon seeded first on Saturday. Unfortunately for Kiran he was a victim of the rocks on Sunday.

Pro GRT - 4 Snowshoe 2014
Not the ride anyone's looking for. The highs and lows.

Pro GRT - 4 Snowshoe 2014
Dylan Conte scrubbing off the road gap up top. Dylan seeded 6th and ended up in the same spot on Sunday finding 4 seconds in the woods.

Pro GRT - 4 Snowshoe 2014
Joshua Patton in the flat S turns up near the top.

Pro GRT - 4 Snowshoe 2014
Ben Furbee in the rock garden. Ben took 4th on Sunday.

Pro GRT - 4 Snowshoe 2014
Max Morgan pinned through the lower woods. Definitely the fastest section of the track. Max came out with a second place finish.

Pro GRT - 4 Snowshoe 2014
Luca Shaw skipping through the rocks. Luca seeded for first for the juniors but got a flat and ended up 5th.

Pro GRT - 4 Snowshoe 2014
Charlie Harrison kicking up rocks in practice. Charlie ended up second to his teammate Shane Leslie.

Pro GRT - 4 Snowshoe 2014
Shane leslie out of the gate and on his way to taking the top spot for the Juniors.

Pro GRT - 4 Snowshoe 2014
Junior X Podium: 1st Shane Leslie, 2nd Charlie Harrison, 3rd Matthew Fitzgerald, 4th Matthew Branney, 5th Luca Shaw.

Pro GRT - 4 Snowshoe 2014
Amanda Batty over the jumps in the lower woods. Amanda made her way to a 2nd place finish.

Pro GRT - 4 Snowshoe 2014
Rae Gandolf headed for 4th place.

Pro GRT - 4 Snowshoe 2014
Lauren Daney took the win for the women by a good margin.

Pro GRT - 4 Snowshoe 2014
Women's Pro Podium: 1st Lauren Daney, 2nd Amanda Batty, 3rd Alison Zimmer, 4th Rae Gandolf, 5th Elinor Wesner.

Pro GRT - 4 Snowshoe 2014
Logan Bingelli in the jungle. Logan came out in 3rd. 3rd, 4th, and 5th were all on the same second.

Pro GRT - 4 Snowshoe 2014
The top spot for the men went to Neko Mullaly with a time of 04:00.47, a full 8 seconds over second place.

Pro GRT - 4 Snowshoe 2014
Men's Pro Podium: 1st Neko Mullaly, 2nd Max Morgan, 3rd Logan Bingelli, 4th Ben Furbee, 5th Luca Cometti.

Pro GRT - 4 Snowshoe 2014
Neko ran his seeding run chainless, gotta be smooth to hold speed through rocks like this.

The 2014 Pro GRT is back next weekend July 18-20 at Beech Mountain, North Carolina for its 5th stop.

"The tour stops in Virginia for some rocky racing."
Better correct your link subtitles man, Snowshoe is in West Virginia, as you obviously know from the rest of the article. Do it quick before the people who patronize those stores that sell the Mothers Day cards and pistol magazines fill ya full of holes.

The tour stops in West Virginia not Virginia. Two different states.

The rock garden of lower hareball is pretty damn gnarly. Nearly nobody rides it... and that's what makes sending a race down it so bad ass!

WOW! I was going to comment that the trail looked pretty easy at first....but then that rock garden! Seemed like there was barely a trail to follow through some of that stuff! Definitely a good place to destroy some rims

dfiler, thanks for video its good to see SNOW SHOE has not lost its ROOTS,back in 2001 the hole track was like lower hareball and wet,for those new kids comein up GO TO SNOW SHOE and you'll get good a skill that some new bike parks are loseing, this track is or this place is a must due list for D.H. riders.

I frackin love Snowshoe and go a lot. There is some real gnar in this place. Go ride the double blacks on basin side. And if you are just starting out riding chunk, hit M and O lines and work your way up from there.

And that video makes it look easy. I'll put it this way, I've cleaned whistler's goats gulley but not lower hareball. Not that it's harder really but being less steep, you have to charge the rock gardens at dangerous speed because if you slow down, you're done. 95% of all downhillers walk some of lower hareball. It feels like all the rocks are in the right place at whistler and at snowshoe they're in all the wrong spots. Definitely raw old school style.
