A look back into some of the excitement and madness that is one of the largest mountain bike festivals in the world, Crankworx.
For some, it's the pinnacle of the year's competition, an all out festival affair with bikes, tricks and skids with the term 'beer on tap' being used more as a direction than a statement. It is the opportunity to let loose and enjoy what Whistler, BC has to offer, but for others it is the highlight of their career. With riders, spectators and fans travelling from all of the world to be in one spot all to celebrate one thing - mountain biking.
Every year for the past 10 years, Crankworx has been building and growing, each year being better than the last, each year the riders going even bigger, each year the prize of winning becomes that little bit harder to snap up. But with this huge growth is the outstanding level of competition and the increasing pressure to succeed.
Crankworx has been and gone for this year, but with 2013 marking the 10th year anniversary it sure as hell hasn't been forgotten. Laurence Crossman-Emms looks back at some of his best moments of Crankworx from this year and has bundled it up into this package of still images.
One of the biggest highlights of Crankworx 2013 has to be the (Unofficial) Official Whip Off. Located on the hillside of the Bike Park in Whistler, it draws fans out of the village and up on the Crabapple piste. With one of Whistler's most biggest and famous line of jumps, Crabapple Hits hosts the one rule competition, get your bike as sideways as you can...winner takes all!
But the main attraction to Crankworx is the slopestyle. Over the past few years the iconic event has been twisted and shaped into all sorts of different beasts but since Red Bull took over the show in 2011 'Joyride' has been bringing in record number of spectators, eager to get a glimpse of the world's best throwing down some shapes. 2013 was no exception, with a top class course set out with plenty of options and lines, it sure was going to be a tight line between winning and throwing it all away!
