 It's weird for me. I don't view Brian Lopes as a "legend". To me, a legend is someone who was once great and whose time has passed. It is obvious that his time has NOT passed. He still has it and will for the foreseeable future. He may not be competing on the WC circuit, but this man is still killin' it, and one day when he takes a step back from competition, and allows others to dominate, then I will view him as a "legend".

 Huh? That makes zero sense. There are still plenty of people who absolutely kill it, compete and are easily considered on that level of being a "legend"... unless you don't consider ACC, Berrecloth, Zink, Strait, Minnaar, Peaty, etc. legends... Regardless, its stupid to even try to assert guidelines on who is a legend or not.

Anyways, Myles!!! whew, blast from a previous point in time and space. That is awesome.

 Dude, don't be an a$$hole. He was just stating how he defines a legend for himself... and you did the exact same thing just using different defining characteristics. Go ride your bike...

But really, take your own advice and chill out. I'm sure he's not crying in a corner somewhere because someone online wrote that having guidelines of "legends" is stupid... Wink

 Between them, Greg Ghrist and Eric Palmquist own just about every KOM in my area, one with hundreds if not a thousand people on the board. I look at how goddamn slow I am in comparison, on tracks I know REALLY well, then I see them 6/7 here with no World Cup level guys...

Such respect for both these guys, and I'm in awe of the level of riding on the WC circuit.

 It's pretty wicked seeing the names of the past having the biggest balls on this course. Lopes (is still on his game of course) but unsponsored Rockwell, Cullinan, Lawill, Carter! Way to go boys! Way back I the day on 3" bikes this course was effin insane, now probably not so bad. I'd love to go back with the family and ride there again one day.

 out of interest why the minutes difference between nearly everyones first and 2nd runs? 10-15secs i can understand but a minute??? was it something to do with the format of the race? like no chain on first run and... um... no brakes on second run lol

 2.0 run is way different then Kami one. Two run format.

 The big time difference between runs 1 and 2 is because run 2 is not on the same course. It's pretty stupid really. On the actual Kamikaze itself, Rockwell was 5 seconds faster than Lopes, but finishes in 2nd place due to lopes being faster on another course halfway around the mountain.

We are in touch with nature and highly value an activity that promotes respect for oneself as well as our environment. I'm proud to say that I spend my weekends riding my bike instead of getting sh*t faced and watching football. As the future of humanity is being written, let us not forget who the true legends are--all of us. One day the world will know and understand us as such. Until then we must do our part to protect and preserve the environments and mindset that big business seeks to replace with profit.

 Congrats to Lopes and the rest of the boys, but no Tomac in my opinion = 2nd place. Don't forget. A few years back JT came out of retirement and won this race against the likes of Sam Hill and the best WC riders in the world, and Tomes was already in his 40's.

 I agree Tomac would probably still smoke just about anybody on the Kamakaze even to this day, but for the record the race you are referring to was in 2005 and Tomac was 38 at the time.

 So were the legends on the same course as the pros? If so the top pro would have finished 11th in the legends division...the legends are killer on the old school course!

 I recall him breaking both knee caps after a freak MX accident, then came back to win a World Championship. The list of injuries he's suffered is pretty crazy...
