bigquotesRostrevor, out of three trail parks I rode in Northern Ireland, has to be my favourite one. Don't get me wrong, the other two are great places to ride, too. However, the difference between Rostrevor and the other two is that it's bigger, has a number of epic descents, good jumps and most of all, long singletrack loops with amazing views for good measure. In other words, it's a place to be, ride and revisit, that's for sure! - Blake Samson

Rostrevor for me has to be my favourite Trail park I ve ridden to date. Even the long climb up on the black route. It has to be the most Picturesque climb I ve done. Riding up Cloughmore climb with the Carlingford Lough on your right and the Forest all around you is just EPIC. It takes your mind off that big climb to the top.

Riding through Kodak Corner with Alistair Baron a local shredder. Its so picturesques they named a bit of the trail where the view is insane. Kodak Corner. If you look up Rostrevor on the web you will definitely see a photo or 6 of some one riding or chilling at this point

This climb is amazing. I don t always say that Who loves to just climb But this Cloughmmore climb is amazing. This is a perfect image of what Rostrevor trail park has to offer. Breathtaking views whilst you climb.

The only way to get to the bottom is down. After climbing for what feels like hours getting to the top is amazing. The descent to the tail head is fast technical and has a few wooden fetchers chucked in for good measure. The single trail that the black route has to offer is amazing. 19km of epicness which is around 2 hours of fun.

Taking in the view and showing Alistair where we are staying in Warrenpoint. Warrenpoint hotel was the coolest hotel. Set right on the water front over looking Carlingford Lough and Rostrevor on your left. I recommend staying there for sure.

There are loads of great trails at Rostevor with loads of hidden line on the trail. You just got to look for them. This was a great rock spine right in the middle of the trail that had to be scrubbed. All of the futures that the trails have to offer are all roller-able or jump-able.

This is what you get yourself into when you start to descend. Fast tight flowy single track. The trail is surfaced very well which you can ride all year round on. We rode in rain most of the day and it was perfect. As long as you don t mind getting a bit wet.

A bit of North Shore chucked in for good measure. This was about 100 meters of fun north shore put in the close this bit of woodland. Perfect width to beginners and not to wide to feel to easy if you know what I mean. It had good corners small ledges and spine jumps to keep you on your toes.

This is what I loved about this trail park. A perfect trail for all levels of riders. But if you look down the trail you will see a few rock slabs that turn a standard trail into a RAD jump scrub and gap trail. All you got to do is think out the box and you ll found loads of these fun lines.

The Trail head had a great park. It s very clean and it offers cycle hire work shop bike cleaning area and camping. A great spot to have a break before heading back up to the top for another run.

This was a weird feeling. Climbing down a ladder to water is strange. The village we stayed in was right on the harbour front. With beautiful rolling hills and mountains surrounding the bay.

The top of Mega Mission Downhill Jump trail was open and fun. With views like this all around you pining a trail. Everything is all right. This was the start of the wooded part of the trail. Where it gets intense. Some of the tables are a bit nuts should I say.

This was my favourite obstacle. Only because I could scrub the hell out of it. It wasn t that big at all. But the run in was fast and flat out you just had to scrub over or you ll end up on the next take-off.

A bit of rain doesn t stop play. Got to love trail parks that are all year round ridable.

Half-way down the trail, I bumped into the dudes that keep it running sweet. Had a long chat about the development of new and expanding on other trails. There are some fun things to come in the future for this Trail park. Next time I go back, there should be a few new jumps and trails. They were working on this part of the trail and adding in a rad double drop section. Wish it was done when I was there!

This was the biggest rock garden or should I say BIGGEST BOLDER garden I have ever ridden in a trail park. hahaha. A fun challenge for sure

Hecklers Rock This is one name on the Trail map that I definitely wanted to see what it was all about. Its a rather large bolder in the woods that is part of a trail. Two lines to ride the outside line is a line around the bolder but with a rock garden that you have to navigate through. So its not all easy. The second is directly over it. In the wet is a challenge. The entrance is a muddy turn onto the rock and then its a wet muddy face to drop off. You have to be the man of the day in the group and send it over it.

Absolutely! Have to say Rostrevor is a fantastic place to ride. Great people, pubs and restaurants, Long xc spins, All weather trails, Big desents and unbelievable natural trails too. It really has it all.

@bat-fastard Jesus Man is all you do give out! Absolutely cracks me up. Maybe you should be thankfull of what you got and what these trails have done for the community instead of being the typical " its shit and i like nothing" keyboard warrior!

Sorry but they cost mega bucks to build and are not up to par. I'm not a keyboard warrior by the way, just ridden a couple of official places in England again over xmass, hope to be back in Wales this easter to ride revolution again and want to try black mountain this time instead of Antur stinkydog.. Am booked again for the Alps in summer. Sorry as a tax payer I would like something that even an old sport level rider like me could enjoy never mind the more able riders. To me these two DH trails are a total waste, I don't ride them and have no plans to. I do ride the unofficial trails which I must say are as good if not better than the likes of revolution etc..

 Well said kylesligo.

Have to agree with you there. I'm quite an experienced rider, though still managed to completely wreck myself on the first jump on mega mission. 18 months later just about swinging my leg over a bike again. Stick to the bins runs from now on

Everyone is aware of the issues on the official trails, my understanding is that it's only a matter of time before improvements are made... and some of the jumps on mega are good! It wouldn't take that much work to improve the flow and the few ridiculously steep lips. Given the fact that there is an uplift, several really good natural DH runs and DH2 / Pulse is better than it used to be, in my opinion Rostrevor is well worth a visit!!

All us locals are well away or the problem and work going on to try to get trails 'improved'. to date theres one small section been done and it vastly improved it. There need a shed load more done but... This is a glossy advert aimed to bring tourists in, if you've just paid a small fortune in ferry and travel to get here thinking its like an uplift centre in Wales your going to be pissed off if you don't know the secret local trails which are fantastic. For same price you could be in Spain or Portugal this time off year or the Alps in the summer..
  • 11 2
@bat-fastard - are you paid to troll like this? Your continuous negativity about the trail centers in Northern Ireland is truly sad, and in a public forum like this, potentially damaging. The trails aren't perfect - but they've paved the way for legal mtb'ing in Rostrevor and brought more people onto the mountain than ever before. They are a great opportunity for bring some much needed money to a struggling local economy, and if you don't mind a bit a pedaling, for the most part, are great fun. They are a great way of linking up a 4 or 5 hrs ride in the Mournes without going near a road. Also, why would you suggest that potential visitors travel to Britain or France rather than spend money locally in NI?
  • 5 3
Sounds to me like the dude is merely telling the truth the way he sees it, and you're blasting him for doing so in the name of 'bringing money into the local economy'. Sure people rip on shit just to be assholes, but in this case what dude said was backed up by another person. Conversely, you pretty-much agreed-at least in part- with what he said, but come across as actually advocating bullshitting prospective 'visitors', or at least not mentioning how bad some sections are. In the end, your way might get a few more people there in the beginning, but then after they've found out it's not nearly as good as what you said it was, they'll be especially pissed off, and will go out of their way to tell everybody within shouting distance how much it SUX. Once that happens, good luck EVERY trying to get people back there again.
  • 9 0
That's just it though. Rostrevor as a riding destination is amazing. Sure it has some faults. But telling people not to come cause of a FEW issues is crazy!! As far as I can see this guy bombards any trail centre public forum /Facebook page cause he dosnt like to peddle. But if your fit the red and black loops are a great day on the bike. When I go there for the weekend I spend one full day mile munching on the trail centre. The second day smashing out dh runs both natural and trail centre via the up lift. So h some creamy pints of Guinness and good food thrown in there in the middle somewhere

If you actually read what I say I do travel to ride trail centres bike parks. Been going to Morzine since late 90's think its my 11th trip next year. One planet adventure at Llandegla, revolution bp, Antur Stiniog, Chicksands and Bike Park Ireland here just to mention a few. I haven't mention the xc loop as its just a plane featureless xc trail when compared to the jump trails at Llandegla for comparison. I'm commenting on the 2 purpose built DH trails featured in this. People have already came and ridden them and went home and spread the word. They need sorted before this kind off advertising causes more damage. Yes we all know the secret 6 dh trails that can be accessed from the uplift are fantastic and are not mentioned here at all. You will miss every other uplift if you ride them is the down shot. There is a forest drive that takes you up most of way and we do do our own uplifts in cars vans taking turns at driving as its not worth paying for an uplift that you are only using half off.. Simple truths there...

O thats funny... I thought the headline was "Blake Salmon Rides Rostrevor NIreland"..... Not Mega mission trail. As a place to go its fantastic. Full stop

well as most pinkbikers will be coming for uplifts for mega and pulse, the xc loop is just that, a featureless gravel path with some great views.. apart from that as others said it gets pretty dull after a while... Just a question have you ever been to bike park wales, revolution, glentress or inners? theres a massive difference from them to whats been built at rostrevor....
  • 8 0
Kylesligo is on the money - Rostrevor is a fantastic place to ride bikes and spend a weekend ....... providing you're happy to pedal. YoKev - I'm not blasting him for telling the truth, simply trying to add a bit of balance. Most trail centers have their issues in spots (including Glentress, Inners, Llandegla etc) but all this fella ever does is point out the negative. I've been riding in the UK for years, as well as multiple trips to the Alps, the US & Canada - seen some great stuff, and some not-so-great in most places. Overall, Rostrevor is a great facility to have in Ireland.
  • 4 1
Im always happy to pedal. I just may find myself in Ireland one of these days.
  • 4 1
Most pink bikers?? Can you define what they are??? Uplift junkies is it? Cop on! Mountain bikers love natural trails. I love them. We all love them...I ride them every day! But some times we need trail centre stuff. Why? To grow the f*cking sport!
  • 1 5
flag bat-fastard (Jan 1, 2016 at 6:06) (Below Threshold)
I'm fed up hearing this 'we need to grow the sport' and 'we need more beginner trails'... we actually need something that even a sport level rider like me will enjoy riding never mind the seniors and pro level riders in this country. Just to put Mega Mission into perspective. Its been graded as a proline, the BLUE graded training jump line on the Chevannes in Les Gets is faster steeper and has bigger tabletops and berms that you can actually hit flatout and its a BLUE trail the guides are taking beginners down...
  • 2 1
For once @bat-fastard id agree with you on the grading off the runs compared to france where megamission would be considered a blue! But its all perspective.
As for the 6 or so natural trails at rostrevor, it is possible to ride them without missing the next uplift! You just have to ride them faster if you are missing them!
  • 1 3
dh3 and maybe the nps if your fast, but not the champs, the bins1,2,3 if you miss the last third of the trail and ride the wrong way down the forest drive into oncoming traffic which has been recently highlighted as a safety risk. If you finish at the bins themselves you have a long push back up road, suppose you could ride up if you don't have DH gears but still will miss.. Some of the best trails are over the top of open mountain and down to ballyed forest that uplift doesn't cover, badgers claw and magic carpet too..
  • 6 1
You can do full runs and not miss the uplifts on all them tracks, except champs, do it most weekends on the v10
  • 8 1
I agree @dhdanv10 I hit 11 full runs on a morning uplift this morning from 9:30am-1pm with two full buses running it was very busy and still never missed a lift, full runs of bins top to bottom and pedalled up the road with a 7sp DH gear setup maybe @bat-fastard needs to work on his fitness instead of spending his time spouting negativity on the Internet.
  • 4 0
@craigyboy 100% agree with you its not impossible!
  • 1 3
well you boys must be flat out off bus and riding uphill to start of bins then flatout pedalling back up hill to uplift not miss a lift... most people I see miss out bottom off track and cut down road.. I know I wouldn't make it without missing bottom that's for sure as well as good lot I ride with but then we not as young or as fit..
  • 3 0
@bat-fastard your posts are unreal, another negative one you must have some time on your hands to be so negative on the Internet. Maybe put that into training and you'll be able to catch the uplift bus again! Plenty of riders can catch the bus again. I'm not gonna get into an argument here as you have way more interest in arguing over the Internet, I would rather ride my bike tbh. It's pretty clear that the guy writing the review had a decent enough time and he seems honest enough! Why would you go out of your way telling people not to come to rostrevor to ride bikes. Most people say they would rather rostrevor to bike park Ireland. I'm sure I speak for a lot of riders at alls levels that ride in Ireland, rostrevor is a great spot and the bike park trails being mega mission and on the pulse may not be the best but they can be rode and you can have fun on them, kids of alls ages ride them. They need work but it is new to this country have you forgotten that. The unofficial trails are great fun. Europe and mainland UK have been a tad more open to the sport we are a bit behind but it's moving forward so give over.
  • 1 2
@kylenelson Never complained once about the unsanctioned trails you guys build and I have said they are some of the best in the uk manys a time, but are not featured in these adverts, this being the second to make it onto front page in a few months. What are featured are only the 2 official trails which are in your own words 'not the best' and 'need work'. As for as being behind, the new uplift centres that have been built from scratch in Wales for similar if not less money have more official trails of a far higher standard.. If your expecting the same official trails here then think again..
  • 13 1
I hope you got a chance to ride the natural trails up there? They make the downhill tracks seem fairly grim in comparison.
  • 9 10
does anyone actually ride the official trails anymore.. the unofficial trails are some of the best and should be in this advert as its what bikers will come to ride..

sicmoto who do you think you are. I have just bought my Vitus from chainreactions and I know for a fact that people have told me Mega Missions is the most technical gnarliest trail ever made in the world. I would ride it myself but I haven't bought all the latest gear yet.

All this talk about money and cost for riding is boring as a mountain biker for years all I'm interested in is turning the cranks and spinning the wheels wherever that is every ride is a good one with its own merits sure some places are better than others, you never know when it might be your last ride so get stuck in and enjoy it no matter what ????????

A bunch of friends and I rented a house in Rostrevor for a weekend in mid-December. We had a really good time, three great rides at Kilbroney in some pretty rough weather conditions, plus great food and beers in town each evening. Well worth a visit.

It's great to see articles like this. Rostrevor is a great place to ride. I've been riding here for a long time with my buddies, we've dug trails and uplifted ourselves here for years since these trails have been built the place has developed so well, It offers so much in the way of trail centre and natural riding if you look for it and a fantastic uplift service. If anyone is thinking of visiting fire me a message and I can show you it's hidden gems. We want more people to visit and help the development of rostrevor as mountain bike destination. There's everything from super tech tight descents to flat out DH runs. We have at least 8 DH runs all within reach of the uplifts and more over the back around the town if you don't mind a wee pedal.
  • 2 0
i know nothing of the issues you speak of. The place looks full of potential. It looks like a weekend plus option to travelling to the alps, as in you can choose short notice as UK rider and go in good weather. sounds like trail improvements are happening. this place has serious weekend warrior tourist potential?? thoughts??

only improvement is about a 10m stretch, Its taken almost 3 years to get that done, maybe more will follow on but that's been 3 months ago... It has some of the best secret trails about but uplift isn't designed round them, you can do self uplifts on the forest drive but. Just a heads up my ferry crossing was almost £400 return for car and 4 return this month.. I'm booked for Morzine for summer again been going since late nineties, wouldn't drive an hour to ride the 2 official trails...

The uplift leaves you pretty much as close to all the unofficial trails as the official ones and any local will happily show you the good stuff. Worth a trip. The loop is actually alright if you like man made stuff, gets pretty boring after a couple of spins.
