We know some of you have been hoping for this one since we started doing these Old School Throwbacks... So this Sunday we're going big, with the largest, loudest and wildest of all the freeride films: New World Disorder. Marvel at Bender, the still-walking victory of cast-iron balls over technical skill, remember just how long CG has been one of the most stylish men on a bike and take your hat off to Trevor Snowdin for getting loose in his wheelchair. In fact, stop reading this and turn the volume up...
okay i got it with yt unblocker but i had to copy the url in a new window.
oh my god NWD 1 my first bikemovie i owned (VHS)...new local bike store in town (first with gravity bikes) and this movie were the reason why i switched from jumping around in the woods on sketchy own built trails with a cc ht to my first dual slalom bike to hit dirt jumps and the first bikepark in germany...so awesome..wish we had the infrastructure, the number of trails, bikeparks and pumptracks that are around now..but of course we had fun anyway...
thanks freeride enterainment for infecting me doing this awesome sport,
this sport has evolved a lot in that short amount of time..the only thing is, i found dual and 4x back then where a lot more fun to watch and actually challenging with all the diffrent linechoices etc. so sad that there is less support for the most fun to watch race disciplines.
I know the feeling, I live in Germany too where GEMA ruins everything and keeps kids from knowing what true music is.
I noticed a lot of the times now since google has revamped youtube a lot of proxies don't work anymore.
Im surprised the Germans can't view this clip due to some blocking software, but they can make and watch some of the most hardcore porn you'll ever see!
Well said. They try to restrict stuff from other countries/impose large taxes to promote people to get German produced stuff because lets face it, most would rather listen to foreign artists than German ones
I don't care what anyone says, Bender is a fuckin hero!
I often wonder if the ridiculous over-use of slow-mo in the later films was them just waaay overcompensating for the 15 seconds of sped up film in this one.
almostwise U're 100% right on the money! Bender = hero in my book! not some pussy ass biker on a super light DH rig...He made most us ride what we ride today...pure inspiration! Bender icon of the sport
I remember when i was in Portugal with KONA back in the day. I was given a copy of NWD1 on VHS by Big D himself. And I had it signed by Joey Schwartz, John Cowan and Robbie Bourdon... Still have it in my collection.
Good times, good times.
I remember when I was in Whistler with Kona Klump back in 1994, riding with Joe Schwartz, John Cowan, Robbie Bourdon as well as Shaums March and Josh Bender
awesome memories and super friendly guys, made my buddy and I feel really welcome and a great credit to their sponsors
here's a snap of me leading Josh Bender, my buddy Rob B and Joe Schwartz down Garbanzo
Hampsteadbandit; Sounds like a good time allright! As I remember only Cowan joined us out for a ride around the ridges of the orange farm where we stayed.
Always used to love watching Bender go mental. The guy was just crazy. A lot like Seth Enslow, people don't have enough respect for the size of their gigantic brass bollocks :p
brings back so many rad memories !oh ya blood for blood ! unicycling on the edge of the chief ! back when mt biking was fun ,not a fashion show ! neon bikes now ! come on ,are we in the eighties again?
wow some of the shit they did in here i wouldnt do now a days... 60 mph manual/wheelie, long stems, and bender... just say his name and that gives a whole description of riding.
Does any body out there know what frame Chris O'Drisscoll is riding from 24:49 to 24:59? I've wondered this for years. All I can seem to gather about the frame is that it's got a massive Horst Link type set up and that the shock might be just in front of or below the bottom bracket? One of you old school guys has got to be able to help me out!
Its nice watching the old shit. Amazing how much has changed in 13 years. I'm so glad mtb has gone the way it has though. Like its fun watching these videos but from my perspective riding skinnies and hucking ridiculous cliffs isnt really what mountain biking is all about. I have never understood why skinnies were so popular back then. Like the ground below them was amazing, why werent they riding it?
that brought back some memories, cant believe i used to like the music tho! had to stop watching half way through it was so bad.
wouldnt fancy one of those 85 degree head angles now tho.
also, this film was the start of all these stupid themed films from the nwd boys. heres a theme, ride some bikes, if i want to watch mexican wrestling i'll watch some mexican wresting videos not a bike video.
that came out about 4 years after i started riding and it was mind blowing back then, pushed the boundries so far.
plush was better tho
How many trips to the hospital have I been on because of josh bender? About 7 and that's just me going of stuff nowhere near as big as him... Absolute legend and a totally bad influence!
Sad really around this time I was at my best shit how work, relationships, clubs pubs and party's effect your riding.
No hander lander at 10:30. Lets see a dirt jump edit with that in a VOD anytime this year! Epic video! Only been into mtb for the past several years, cool to see where the seeds were planted. Thanks PB!
I've watched the nwds that I own (1 2 3 4 5 6 10) a disturbing amount of times. I love it how when the song from your favorite section comes onto the radio and you just want to go and ride your bike as hard as you can.
I used to get so stoked after watching the bourden/schwartz nelson section. Never really did understand the whole priest/nun breaking into deep cove thing.
that drop to shoot that bobby root hits and most of the trail he rides is my home stomping grounds.. so proud.. ive been rebuilding that line for the past month

New World Disorder October 2000 ---just googled it, I knew it was in the end of the 90's =D
