For day one of racing here in Scotland riders tackled 58km and around 1,500m of climbing. While the numbers may be fearsome at first glance, this is another slightly more relaxed race with plenty of time given for the climbs. The four stages today are the more downhill-oriented of the eight, with a more physical day on the cards for tomorrow (unless the weather gets as bad as predicted, then everything might change).

The weather gods smiled on us today with great conditions for racing - bright and occassionally sunny but not too hot. That saud the Scots like reminding us that tomorrow is going to be another story...

About the Photographers

Matt Wragg • Age: 32 • Years Shooting: 3
Maybe best-known as a long-standing member of Pinkbike's European editorial team, Matt is also a successful commercial photographer. As the first English-speaking photographer to follow and document the nascent European enduro scene, he was shooting enduro well before it became a marketing buzzword or a shade of blue. Today he is still one of the few photographers to make his living following the discipline and has built up an enviable client list that includes many of the top teams and brands in the world.

Dave Trumpore • Age: 35 • Years Shooting: 4
Dave spent the bulk of the past 17 years racing professionally before realizing that despite qualifying for the random World Cup final here and there, the next generation was just way too fast and way more talented. Upon hanging up his racing boots in 2010, it would be a few years until Dave picked up a camera and started shooting the odd race here and there as a way to stay in touch with all the friends he had made over the years, and the rest as they say is history. In just a few years time his photos have graced the pages of just about every MTB magazine and major media outlet, while his commercial client list includes a who's who of the cycling industry, and he is lucky enough to shoot regularly with some of the best riders on the planet. Currently at Pinkbike, Dave shoots the Downhill WC and the Enduro World Series as well as contributing to the occasional editorial story.

These are some stunning pictures. I mean, that shot of Martin Maes in full ninja-cat position is an all-timer. And the shot of Rude throwing chunks of roost while flat out just makes me want to ride. Keep up the good work fellas.

That chunk shot gave me a trail boner and a man crush on Richie Rude. I heard that Richie Rude hit a tree one time and 911 had to be called. For the tree.

" After taking 5th last week in England, Martin Maes is still looking to find his pace this week in Scotland."

I'm sure the Irish will be pleased with that mistake Wink

The pics and descriptions are great but Ya, there's a few typos...'should' instead of 'she', of instead of off, place and places(ACC)..oh well.

@davetrump Don't you think it's astounding that so many Pinkbike regulars hold down careers in copy editing?
  • 14 1
Jrocksdh as such an enforcer of spelling and grammar in each of our posts this week I'm disappointed that your comments are not written in the same standard to which you preach. Why the capital 'Ya' and you forgot to put quotes around 'of' and 'off'. The use of 'there's' in place of 'there are' is incorrect as well as the correct usage of '...' and '..' (The second of which isn't even a proper form of punctuation)
  • 1 2
 @davetrump

It's punctuation, my good man. Not puntuation.
  • 2 0
Haha, cool. I was only thinking of your protection @davetrump - you don't want to end up on an Irish hit list! ;p

Love the coverage! Is anyone even coming close? Thanks again Pinkbike!

for some reason after watching JC's vid of one of the stages i though Rude would have trouble with all the tight bobbing and weaving that suits the smaller guys (JC,maes, nicolai, barnes)

so Rude is just amazing!! or the trees moved slightly in fear of obliteration!!

And once again my results guesses are far of any of today's results... Let's wait and see what tomorrow brings... Seems like an awesome event anyway...
