The change of seasons is subtle at first. You know objectively that it happens each year, generally within the same time frame, consistent, predictable. And yet somehow it's always a surprise when the hero dirt turns to mud and trees shiver their leaves to the ground. You check the time in disbelief - how is it dark at 4:00 p.m.?
The endless gold of August has become the lifeless grey of November. Where did the time go? You may have blown by it in a swirl of dust and chain clatter. When you were chasing singletrack, summer was withering away. Maybe you even embraced the fall. But now it’s shoulder season – too warm to snow, too wet to ride (unless you’re a masochist). Purgatory.
Thankfully, we have videos like this to remind us that dust, like the summer, will someday return. Dean Tennant is a Vancouver Island local, and this place is truly a mountain bike paradise: an Island In The Sun.
