Not his best result, but Minnaar was genuinely enjoying the track, as were most racers. Pinkbike wasn't able to catch up to the current World Cup leader after the race, but in conversation on seeding day, Minnaar was relishing the low key attitudes at the venue as well as the flow of the track.

Locals raised heckling to new levels in PA; on a single run, a racer could conceivably be chased down the track by a screaming fan, air horned multiple times, cowbelled, mooned, and helicoptered. "The naked guy", stated one female pro, "thankfully had his back to me, but it was at a really slow part of the track, so definitely a distraction."

Flashbacks of year one at Pietermaritzburg came to many of the international racers with the box van uploads. But while those were brutal affairs with 20 minute uploads on some pretty bumpy roads, the PA uploads were 5 minutes at most, and up a baby butt smooth road.

Kevin Newell from Five Ten was on hand to provide demo shoes for use at the event. The dirt offered bottomless traction, but still, it took only one run to go from the 'clean' shoe to the 'not so clean' shoe. Regardless, business was brisk, and I don't think Kevin left with any clean shoes left in the fleet.

Talent will only get you so far, and top level pros know this. Jill Kintner trains religiously--in her 4X days she even went so far as to have a full on 4X start gate behind her home to train gate starts. For this race, all that training came together to deliver a well deserved win.

Hidden in the Yeti trains pouring down the Dry Hill track was former World Cup 4X specialist Jared Graves. Graves worked hard this past winter to get back into DH form, and it's paid off with solid showings at South Africa and a top ten seeding run here in Port Angeles.
