Pinkbike Poll: Is it the Rider or the Bike?
which bike? i have 6 (i know i can only ride 1 at a time!) & a trial bike is rigid so i culd put the wrong stem or innappropriat gearing on it but i cannot set the sus up badly. does this further expose my lack of talent?

Dan Atherton's Prototype GT Enduro Bike
if you are looking at your bike when you are riding it you are doin it wrong & you ARE gonna crash. if someone goes past you on an ugly bike you are still gonna chase them. looks are subjective but good design & proper construction make it work. dont get me wrong i think the Lotus Intense M9 or a Syndicate V10c look great but a Syndicate team rider will make an any bike go past you so fast its irrelavent.

Pinkbike Poll: Long Travel Single Crown Forks
i cant belive jaame got props for saying the most important bit about forks is looks! at least we know who the tarts are! as much as its nice to be in a position to get performance & looks, the reason looks aint considered important in this & very few other articles is coz its least important.

Pinkbike Poll - Adjustable Geometry
Santa Cruz V10 & Morewood Makulu. both consistently great bikes, no adjustable geo from factory. option to fit Angleset but i havent seen anyone do so. my Yeti 303RDH has adjustable geo chip thingy wich i have used once. my m8 also owns a 303RDH & iv talked to several other owners & ALL of them have chip in same place & sum hadnt ever touched it. correct geo dont need adjusting.

Axle Standards - Pinkbike Poll
standards started gettin silly with all the axles but really took the biscuit when headsets & BBs got involved. heres the scenario in LBS: staff- good morning customer- i need a new BB please staff- what type? customer- standard staff- errrrrr do you have the bike with you? C- no but i just want a standard BB S- what bike is it? C- a Trek. S- model & year? C- why do you need to know that??? S- because there is no standard BB. or headset. or front hub. or rear hub. story ends with an irate customer who has to check model & year of their bike, go back to LBS who dont have the part & cannot order it in time for weekend. customer goes mental. if an experianced member of staff can get confused with BB standards then what chance does joe public have? iv managed to keep the front of most of my bikes interchangeable (20mm thru, 6bolt rotor mount, IS calliper mount & 26 inch. see how much there is just on the front wheel!!) wich has saved my ride a few times. but at the back its impossible. a standard needs to be set so we can ride more. thats how you get faster aint it?

The Argument For Short Travel Bikes - Opinion
im lucky enuf to own 4 bikes of different types including a Yeti 303RDH & a Dialled Prince Albert with RS Pikes. i lent the Yeti to my 6ft brother & i (5,8") took the Dialled on a trail in Scotland & i followed him thinkin he would tear off ahead. however i was surprised how well the hardtail coped with terrain, findin that i was right behind him even through a badly potholed series of turns & a lot of roots. & it was Scotland so of coarse it was wet! the bottom line is that even tho he is bigger & stronger & was on a way more forgivin bike, im a better rider than him. that dont me an Atherton by any stretch but it proves the point (to me at least) that the most important aspect aint the sus or type of a bike, its the rider. i would have killed meself on my 20" trial bike tho!
