I despise everything about Trek and would (most likely) never ride a Trek to save my life, but I think I'm calling my local dealer to put an advance full-pay deposit on one of those R-Dog frames, just because it is so stupidly beautiful.
I think I don't like them because of two things...
1. I have always ridden Specialized (and some boutique / special purpose frames) for all of my "as-built" bikes, so maybe some of it is "tribal hatred" or "company racism" because of that allegiance.
2. Back in the day (5-10 years ago), Trek was not the top of the heap on quality, at least as far as my local area peers and role models were concerned, and the LBS that sold Trek was populated by stark-raving retards as well, so that didn't help anything.
YES, I'm well aware that none of that really means anything when it comes to today's Trek brand, their bikes and frames, or me for that matter, but it's stuck, just like peoples' tribal love / hate over sports teams.
I'll stick to my saracen for the time being and put the cash towards other bikes, a van and uplifts.
And the $4499? Here's what my thoughts are (which no one cares about and nobody asked for):
These frames are not a money maker (which is why they never sold them). They are selling these as a promotion and to satisfy the limited number of people who want them. Because of this, I bet they are selling them at close to what their cost is. These aren't massed produced, so they most likely cost quite a bit more than their "public" lineup. Just my thoughts.
Then unbunch your panties, take a deep breath, and eat a gigantic bag of dicks with your Republican/Libertatian buddies.
was really excited for this one!
