I am happy for Stevie, he's a great guy and a great rider, but I was really rooting for Gee here. Got to be the most powerful and consistent rider to date. He deserves so much more respect than a lot of people on here are giving him. He's been on the circuit for a long time, and I can put money on it he'll be back next season right up at the top again, that's just what he does.
Gee deserves all the respect in the world, but Stevie stormed in and snatched this season from him in damn spectacular fashion. Hard not to be completely fired up, especially with him being a fellow Canadian.
Although they are both great riders, It's pretty hard to deny that Steve dominated that race, and deserves the World Cup title. Steve was the come from behind underdog, especially early in the season. He was a long ways back, but mentioned that he was mathematically still able to catch Gee back in July. And he did. Just. With a big smile on his face the whole time. That's so sick, in my opinion.
still remember when stevie and semnuck were dissing each other in follow me. now, a few years later, they're both champions of their trade. stoked to see canadians taking the sport home. congrats stevie, you deserve it.
So cool for Stevie, but those are some killer results for Bruni, Bryceland, and Sik Mik! I was hoping some of them boys would step it up, I'm just trying to look for where you can put that much time into Bruni's run on this track. Smith is mental!
Thank You Stevie!!! You made may day yesterday, on my Birthday! I wished that you win the title, and you made it! I was so happy! Couldnt watch it only, but my MOM called me that I had the birthday present! Everybody is proud of you, congrats and all the best for the future! A.
What a great season I picked to get back into mtn biking!
Looking forward to riding tonnes this winter, into the spring and summer and volunteering at Cranworx 2014.
I agree @rickpolar, I've nothing against Gee, he's an awesome rider, and a great athlete. Just he doesn't let his guard down and Stevie Smith just seems like one of the boys.
Dunno why people say that about Gee..for sure he always has his game face on in any coverage of the world cup we see but has anyone seen the Atherton Project!?!? Im buzzing for seeing him at redbull fox hunt!!
I agree too. Stevie seems like a really down to earth guy, not influenced by any of the corporate stuff, all the arrival segments that have been online have portrayed that side of him. Gee just doesn't grab me, even though he's English. All his interviews seem a little cold and pre-prepared, almost like footballers and their monotonous answers. Shame, but I found myself hoping Stevie won.
I met you at Crankworx after your dramatic victory and you were kind enough to chat for a few moments and autograph your poster for my son. Having lived in the beautiful country of Austria (where my son was born) for three years, I can tell you we Canadians are well liked, as I'm sure you've experienced over the weekend. Ironically Dominik missed Crankworx as he was back in the "motherland" for August.
See you next year in Whistler, and bringing my son to meet you this time!
I'm a high caliber XC racer, but watching XC races on video is about as exciting as watching paint dry.
I LOVE watching top end DH. Those guys are some of the best athletes on the planet.
Man, you have to smile when you see Steve doing such a run, watching those split times and his joy of winning. This man deserve all the splendor that comes with the title. Feels like a lot of fresh air to the downhill scene!
I wanna thanks stevie mom's for all her shutteling. If she wasn't so dedicaded i don't know if canadian would be so proud today with a world champion canadian on a canadian bike
Super happy for Stevie! Don't think Gee got any ego issues like some say, where some riders have settled with just having a podium finish, he was hell bent on winning. So yeah, I can't knock him for being disappointed with the results.
I thought Bruni had it all stitched up and then Stevie just had to show 'em who's boss. I was rooting for Gee but Stevie was just quicker this season. Overall times will show Stevie's faster by a mile to everyone else. I wonder what could have happened in PMB had he not slipped on that first corner. He also showed that he is mentally strong too, taking chunks of time off the clock even under such intense pressure.
Bruni will be a force to be reckoned with in the next couple of seasons. This Frenchman is the real deal. Gee will probably have a carbon bike next year and will still be in supreme fitness. I expect next season to be his.
Huge props to those responsible for giving us this live coverage! Looking back, they have done a really good job this year.. not only in terms of visuals, but also general information of the venues and riders More next year please!
question: whats best the look on gee's face or rob warners commentary " im so wet i feeling like im wearing a paddling pool" commedy gold! hilarious !!! welldone stevie!!! great riding from peaty and josh as well!!
Thanks Pinkbike for not putting the winner in the title, but putting a caption picture of the winner kinda gives it away. Anyway congrats Stevie! I was super nervous just watching your run, but you pinned it! All that training payed off!
Everyone is thinking back to Steve's original segment in Seasons, but don't forget this one from Follow Me: Two great guys that love what they do: riding bikes, throwing a few snowballs, and no handers tucks on pavement.... www.pinkbike.com/video/190028
I remember somehow ending up in a drunken conversation with Darcy Wittenburg and a young drunk 16 year old smith in whistler, bigging him up to be a big name in the future. Never thought I would have been talking to a future World Cup champion. Massive congrats and big respect to the man!!.
Massive congrats to Stevie!!.. He deserved it no doubt. Gutted for Gee even if he does come across as Mr Serious. Can you imagine being in his position. I think anyone would struggle to be all smiles.
I'm actually most stoked for Peaty though. The man is still seriously fast and obviously still loving the sport!
Stevie has been on a winning strike since his first place in Mont-Sainte-Anne -- he's won all races he's been on since (save the World Champs in Pietermaritzburg) and amply deserves his WC championship. Hail to the (new) King! May you reign for years to come, Stevie!
Gee was awesome, Stevie was a little more awesome, great friggin run, Canadain, B.C. , Vancouver Island boy, I like that a lot , some "fresh air" at the top of the World Cup !!! Good to see
Congrats to Stevie, and congrats to all my friends to the north, it's about time the country with the greatest bike park in the world has a W.C. Champion.
Gee and Sik Mik are hands down the fastest riders out there. Every race they get podium too. Don't get me wrong, stevie is one fast mofo but these two are prob your fastest consistently all through out the season. Next year guys, next year
I could watch that over and over and don't even race DH. Smith is so composed and smooth in that run, and the stopwatch obviously tells that story. He manages to ride with some style as well as going fast. Dismount at the end was exuberance. That little clip starting at 1:59:30 will be great to watch for years. I think his bike set-up was completely dialed as well.
Congrats and thanks to everyone, on a great WC season (only wish there were more.)
'Yo Taylor, I-i-i'm really happy for you, imma let you finish, But Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time"
A.
Congrats, Steve!

So, I missed the Mont saint Anne WC, been trying to find a replay of Stevie's run. Anyone know where I can find it??
just skip ahead to near the end as he was the last man down the hill.
hard worker rider,congrets dude
