Last Fall, Mark Matthews took a season ending tumble at Rampage that left him with a shattered femur. A crash like that can have riders swearing off riding for good, but not Mark. Taking it as an opportunity to rebuild himself, Mark set out to prove his doctors wrong and get back on the bike before their projected timelines. A disciplined exercise and physio regimen, proper diet and patience put him back in the saddle ahead of schedule in just 6 months. Mark now has a renewed appreciation for riding and a new motivation; to have fun.

Welcome back, Mark.

Nice 1, Great to see passion over come mental blocks. yourself hold you back so much after a bad crash.

Ohh man the mental Demons suck!!! Besides having to get a blood thinner shot in the stomach twice a day, its one of the hardest thing to overcome.

I had to wait until my boss left lab so I can watch this, and it was worth the wait

Compounded my femur a year and a half ago just had my 5th surgery 2 weeks ago, was almost back to normal 2 months ago, but some how got mersa , infection was pretty bad had to pull the rod outta my femur and doc had to use a reamer to get the infection off my bone.back to square one for the 5th time. Even though im in pain just being 2 weeks outta surgery with the rod outta my leg it feels alot better just hope it grows back and dont need metal put back in because doc gave me a 50/50 shot of still needing metal.

Im getting better finally, iv had 2 more surgerys on my femur since that post, had a plate and 14 screws put in oct31st. Finally got cleared to start bending my knee after having a external fixator on my leg for 9 weeks and my whole leg was locked out. Its getting better just taking time.... Ill ride again when i can, have 2 new bikes waiting to get use..

I was gonna make a clever quip about the Warden letting him out of prison, but upon closer inspection, he was riding a Chilcotin. Props to you for your determination and courage in your recovery. Great riding, cool trail and good song.

To see a rider's comeback after those scarry crash amaze me by their mental aspect healing. Not to shy away from those lips, jumps, drops and gaps means a lot. Props to them..

Did anyone else think the thumbnail for this video on the homepage looks like he's doing a no-handed manual?
Love Mark Matthews. Sweat Equity and this are both quality edits.

Maybe his femur break was way worse than mine. I broke mine in July of last year and was riding DH again in October. Why did his take 6 months? I wonder if he has a Ti rode in his like i do?
  • 5 0
Broken in 5 places, non union fracture, almost needed a 2nd surgery. Didn't walk for 3 months. Yep I got a ti rod as well!

Dang Mark that's rough... lol! Some folks may have Ti coils but we have Ti Rods (Pun not intended)!! Does your leg sometimes feel like there is some sort of magnetic sensation in it? I know that sounds weird its almost like when your leg vibrates as if your phone was going off in your pocket. Maybe im just crazy..well glad your back to the plate man.

  • 2 0
well thats the first single crown fork i use for freeride / light dh purpose, but i tried boxxer and dorado on my previous DH bike, i use this fork on a kona entourage and i run it with 90 psi 5 clicks of highspeed compression, 3 clicks of low speed compression and 4 clicks of rebound. i weight like 85kg
  • 1 0

Got to do a few laps with Mark in Whistler. It was easy to tell that he was really happy to be back on his bike.

Is that intentional or just chance product placement he has the same Dagger knee pads as the advertisement banner above....

 What a great rode Math
  • 2 2
wow quick recovery!! you can see how much his calf muscle has faded from not using for so long
  • 2 0
Yeah, his calf muscle was probably gone before Thanksgiving last year. I fractured my ankle at the start of July this year, and it didn't take long for my calf to look pathetic compared to my good leg Frown
