Well, not exactly, 650b has really only been around for MTB since 2008/9 when Kirk Pacenti got Panaracer to make his design knobby tires for 650B. The FS retrofit craze started in about 2010 with Santacruz Hecklers. It spread from there.

So I was being sarcastic in my comment above. This guy is horrible at assessing the market, comparing suspension seatposts as a 'tweener' to dropper posts is just totally off. 650b/27.5 requires re-tooling in 4 sects of the industry: frame building, Rims making, Tire molding, and fork building. That is quite a bit different than any of his lame component analogies. 27.5" is the direction not a stop gap/ Werd.

Seen at Sea Otter 2013 - Zerode G2 Gearbox Bike

The naysayers have to understand that this Alfine IG hub is placed in a 'non-stressed' position on the bike, its well over duty for this application, and is built to take touring loads all year long otherwise. It is a forgettable component in this arrangement. You will have more spare time to make extra runs or change flats. ;-)
