Williams Lake BC - October 2-4 2015

Going rogue in the trail building sense has certainly been part of the history of mountain biking, but when it comes to creating world class mountain biking experiences that will inspire people from around the world to come and ride, it’s all about collaboration. This collaborative effort has been brewing in British Columbia for the past decade and the list of players is as broad as the province itself.

The Western Canada Mountain Bike Tourism Association (MBTA) with the help of partners and sponsors is organizing the third bi-annual Mountain Bike Tourism Symposium in Williams Lake, British Columbia on October 2-4, 2015. The symposium brings together a diverse group of industry professionals from around the province and beyond including media, destination marketers, commercial operators, land managers, government and industry representatives, professional riders, and mountain bike advocates.

Williams Lake was chosen as the host location for this year's event in part because it epitomizes the community spirit found in BC that supports mountain biking. The City of Williams Lake and the Cariboo Regional District have a long history of supporting mountain biking and recognize the positive economic impact mountain bike tourism has on the region. A partnership between local governments and the Cariboo Mountain Bike Consortium and the Williams Lake Cycling Club continues to develop mountain biking infrastructure and promotion in the Cariboo.

The symposium is an opportunity to share knowledge and experience, network with other stakeholders and unite the sector into a cohesive force. In addition to two full days of engaging and informative sessions, there is also a pre-symposium trail building workshop and 6 days of guided rides on the amazing trails surrounding Williams Lake, BC!

I find other parts of BC have very healthy cooperation from all trail builders involved.
The North shore is a Battle of Rouge sweet trails or dumbed down shore.
Wana build a trail on the shore with a permit? Not happening. Want to fix a trail on the shore with out a permit? Jumps? nope.
Do it NSMBA way or leave the shovel at home.
So rouge trails it is.

I want to volunteer a lot of time but I don't want to build climbing trails that xc riders who just want to lap espresso will use I want to build something that is fun to ride and something that I will ride

NSMBA does plenty of good trail building when it comes to the new climbing trails. Its just impossible to build new DH trails with at minimum roller gap jumps.and definitely not big jumps. The city of North vancouver has too tight a grip on NSMBA. I bet some of the members would like to build hard core stuff but they cant. The fact that other people have tried to build new trails and are faced with extreme resistance is the opposite of cooperation. This is sad.

to anyone who complains about the NSMBA, go get involved. Try to make a difference, if they won't help you then complain....but I doubt they'd totally turn you down.

Maybe Alberta Parks could send some representatives to learn collaboration as they have made it a complete nightmare to grow mountain biking and the trails around Canmore. (I'm sorry 4+ years to get an already existing trail final approval is not collaborative)
