The older I get, I really don't slow down, I just wear more padding.

Pushing Comfort Zones: Learning to Jump - Rider Perspective
Matt -W I agree that your point is valid in that a World Champion mountain biker should have the skills to be what most folks would regard a world champion mountain biker as already having. The lame courses didn't necessitate it then. Now they are beginning in bits and pieces and future WC champions are going to need more than legs and lungs that don't quit.

Pushing Comfort Zones: Learning to Jump - Rider Perspective
I'm gonna get hell for this - but here goes - The courses have not progressed over the years much - except now they are, and then only with few neatly made man made obstacles. Had the courses developed, the bikes would have been predominantly FS from the beginning. Training wouldn't have been mostly road rides, or burning down little more than dirt roads, but learning skills and upping your game on tech terrain and moving through it with authority. Every sport has a progression - Would Usain Bolt make a great football player or soccer player, because he's simply the fastest guy in the world? No, he would need other skills. XC has developed the opposite of DH - as the DH courses got more technical, it drove the development of the bikes to handle it and that in turn, works vice versa - and the riders adapt and push. XC got easier, faster, and became a race of fitness and attrition, FS bikes started taking a back seat to HT bikes. Now there is a more equal balance. XC needs to race on the trails we all love riding. Now, if only I can talk the XC guys into wearing baggies...

100% Brisker Gloves: What's Covering Your Hands When It's Cold Out?
Tough to find a glove that just fits well - just got two TLD's: L too big, M too small. Have to give 100% a shot. These look sweet.

Steve Peat Announces Retirement From World Cup Racing
I just hope he qualifies for at least a few of them - it won't be easy, having not raced all last year and the one he tried, he didn't make the cut. And I understand now the UCI has lowered the qualification amount down from 80 riders. Tough just to make a slot for everyone who isn't a top gun. UCI choked on that if that's correct.

Well there's a belief out there, that if you suck - you might as well look good. Because you can look like shit if your a bad ass rider, but if you look like shit and you ride like it too- well then, what can I say.

All Stories End, Trek World Racing - Video
Just to clear things up.The Athertons signed with Trek Factory Racing - not TWR - TWR is completely different, run by 23 Degrees, a sport management company. Trek was the title sponsor to the team. It could have easily been the Specialized World Racing team or other brand, had they signed on to provide bikes. The TWR guys didn't get booted because of the Athertons, but possible TWR closed shop, (contract expire and not renewed with Trek) due to Trek wanting to have direct involvement. It's great that Trek took the Athertons - it gives them a female - Specialized and other big companies need to promote more female racers too.
