fat bikes had a random surge of popularity approximately 12 years ago so wtb bringing out fat bike tyres now puts them right on 12 years behind the market in tyre technology, yup that checks out!!

@lewiscraik: when you say different do you mean they're doing the same thing they've done for the last 20 years? i jest, but I'm surprised they're one of the ones in trouble, you would have thought that the "old" companies that have been around forever and dont play expensive games like carbon would be one of the survivors

I feel so sorry for the people who work for these companies. I have no sympathy for the executives at the top who have lost at their own race to the bottom of pricing, who knew a bike company that sells everything at +20% off would go bust? People love a deal but turnover is vanity you need to make profit on something to be able to sustain as a business.. all of these virus bikes that sell at 4k for a carbon bike with golden fox suspension giving people the idea that 8k bikes of the same spec are a rip off, turns out they can’t afford to sell bikes at those prices after all….

Shimano Consolidates Entry- to Mid-Level Groupsets With New CUES Drivetrains
you will more than likely find them on lots of £3-4k hardtail/trekking/city ebikes which are probably pushing integration anyway... and that makes a lot of sense if they're harder wearing link glide.... hopefully this just means base model expensive bikes are more reliable!!

Fox Patent Shows Automatically Decoupling Hub & Disengaging Derailleur
The really clever one would be to manufacture a hub that actually rolls its engagement ratchet back and forth as the suspension goes through its travel so you could run a high pivot bike with no idler, the rear mech would have to be able to cope with a big change in chain length and I'd have no idea how that would be made, hubs would start being proprietary to frames and such but it'd be a clever inovation
