Get Ready To See Some Whips

by Official Crankworx
For those who think they have what it takes to whip with the pros, the Whistler Mountain Bike Park is inviting aspiring riders to Whip It and show their stuff on Crabapple Hits on July 19, 2014. The top five riders with the most whip steeze will win a spot to join the roster for this year’s invitational Official Whip-Off World Championship at Crankworx Whistler.

During this controlled jam, riders will hit the first four hits of Crabapple hits, with judges scrutinizing and scoring the final hit.

Winning riders will be joining an impressive lineup - the top riders who have so far been invited to battle it out for the title of master of whips at Crankworx Whister in 2014 include 2013 winner Bernardo Cruz, Brendan Fairclough, Eliot Jackson, Bernard Kerr, Tyler McCaul and Thomas Vanderham. This year's switch to an invitational format will keep competition tight and stoke high, as the world's best will descend upon Whistler for hit after hit of pure whipped style.

Pre-registration will be available online, at Guest Services or by calling the Reservation Centre. The pre-registration fee is $10. Riders can also register at 10:30 a.m. on site on the day of the event. On site registration is $15 (cash only).

Full schedule and rules are available at http://bike.whistlerblackcomb.com/events/2014/07/whip-it.aspx.

For information about this year's invitational Official Whip-Off World Championships at Crankworx Whistler, check out the event page here..

In total, approximately 75 riders will muster all the steeze they’ve got come Thursday, August 14, working to whip their way to Crankworx glory.

I can't even imagine clearing those 50-60 footer Crabapple Hits, let alone trying to whip them. In the famous words of Kramer: "I'm out" !!!

They're crazy! Or they're so sane that they just blew our own mind!

This is rubbish! Last year it was so good to just be able to enter this and ride with the pro's and now we have to qualify?? That sucks!

One Kramerism comment too many I guess. Giddy up.

I have to say the invite only does not work for me....... This is a great chance for the average guy that can do a huge whip to maybe get some little camera time. But now it's pro only same goes for the pump track open that up to the masses and see what happens. I still will be on the hill watching but it won't be the same.

I was going to go and do the whip offs for the atmosphere and the fun. But now having to pay for this and then most likely not being able to even go to whip offs i cannot be bothered. The atmosphere is what makes whip offs fun not so much the riding

Typical that they'd turn a mostly rider run casual event into another money grabbing pro only contest.

Exactly, that's what i just put above. It was so good to just turn up, enter and ride. WTF is this!

Sorry to hear how much you'll all miss the old format. Over 300 riders come out to the event last year - we had to make the change so that we could properly manage the event. The Whip It event in July is being put on to make sure the amateur element is still present, as we want to make sure those who aren't pro still have the chance to participate. As for the registration fee, it's necessary to cover the cost of staff and running the event.

Should just have the "Real Whip OFF" on another day during Crankworx anyone can show up. get back to grassroots vs all this pro only stuff.

FYI judging criteria includes amplitude, style, degree of whip past 90 and most important, the returnof the bike to straight down the fall line. Landing sideways will get you nowhere regardless of how rad the air was.Get sideways.
