by Official Crankworx
In its third year at Crankworx Whistler, the GoPro Dirt Diaries has put the creative and storytelling control in the hands of professional riders. Six mountain bike athletes, each varying widely in discipline, focus and background, have been chosen to compete in the video contest. The selected riders have been tasked with hand-picking their own teams and will be given seven weeks to create a 4-6 minute video that tells a story to be screened on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 in Whistler Olympic Plaza in front of a live audience.

Here are the riders who have been selected to compete in the GoPro Dirt Diaries at Crankworx Whistler in 2014:

2014 Dirt Diaries Athletes

bigquotesLast year's event was such a hit that we are really excited to see what riders put together in the second year of this video contest. We've been fortunate enough to bring a unique blend of riders to the table this year - Wade Simmons and Kirt Voreis are such legends in the sport, while Ross Measures has a really well-rounded background as a professional rider and as a filmmaker. Claire Buchar is one of the most underrated riders in downhill racing and AT (Andrew Taylor) and Yannick Granieri will round the crew out with their extensive backgrounds as incredible slopestyle riders. - Darren Kinnaird, General Manager of Crankworx

Teams assembled by each invited rider will start filming their edits for the GoPro Dirt Diaries on June 2. Submissions must be handed in on August 4 and will air in front of a crowd and an expert panel of judges at Whistler Olympic Plaza on August 12. Priority seating and close sightlines to giant HD screens will be on offer with a number of ticketed seats available for $5. Prize money will be handed out to teams for first, second and third place.

The filming process for each team can be tracked throughout June and July by checking out @GoPro #DirtDiaries on Instagram, www.crankworx.com or by looking at facebook.com/crankworx.

About Crankworx Whistler
A gathering of the bike-minded, Crankworx brings together the world’s downhill, slopestyle and enduro legends, with the Superfans, the rising stars, the industry’s innovators and the next generation of mountain bike riders for ten days of contests, concerts, culture and cranking.

August 8-17, Whistler, BC, hosts mountain biking’s defining celebration. An event so awesome it broke the dictionary. Nowhere else will you see competitors of this calibre gathered in one place. Nowhere else offers as many opportunities for athletes to launch themselves into professional careers. Nowhere else blurs the line between participant and spectator. Nowhere else exposes the cult of the fat tire from as many angles, with as much spectacle and celebration. Anointed by dirt, aligned with gravity, powered by passion - Crankworx combines it all.

Dirt Diaries was an awesome contest to be a part of last year... Definitely one of the more challenging weeks of shooting I've had in my career but very rewarding... Its always cool to have your stuff shown to that kind of an audience in a place like Whistler... Definitely would do it again!

i hope this isnt taking over deepsummer. Nothing replaces a well told story in slideshow format.

Pretty sure they will continue to run deep summer, completely different formats, these are two separate events with different sponsors. With the photo contests, photographers are chosen to select a team instead of the focus on the athlete composing a team for GoPro Dirt Diaries. Deep Summer/Winter are so popular I sincerely doubt they would cancel either one of the events. There is simply no reason to.
