The mood at the start gate was relaxed. The Garbanzo DH is a non-sanctioned event, so riders raced for fun instead and a chance to race on one of the badest-ass tracks around.
The Garbanzo chair treated the riders to some killer views on the way to the start gate.
Start gate action at the world famous Garbanzo DH.
Fresh off her first World Cup win for the season, Emmeline Ragot crushing the female category at the Garb DH.
Up, up and away.
Claire Buchar stretching up top.
Evening god light on the Garbanzo DH.
Track conditions were dry and loose-the almost complete lack of rain for the past month and a half have the park pretty beat down: massive braking bumps everywhere, and loads of dust in the berms.
Loic Bruni was Junior World Champ last year and Junior World Cup over-all.
Team Freehub droppin' in
Angular distortions on the Garbanzo DH.
Peek-a-boo I see Alejandro Paz.
Pemberton's Jamie Hill starts the pro woman's category.
Claire Buchar landing second in the women's field.
Nothing short of an epic DH race.
Emmeline Ragot was the rider many picked to take the pro women's race; she's wicked fast, and she's fit enough that she's been top five at the two EWS races she's entered.
Lindsay Klein foot out and flat out with about 10 minutes of racing still left ahead of him.
Riding a bike is a helluva lot harder when you're relying on prosthetic legs to get down the track. Adolfo Almarza taking the high left line through "In Deep".
Remi Gauvin dropping in.
Emmeline Ragot sneaks her way through the top root-infested section of the course to a first place finish for the pro woman's catagory.
Mordor or Whistler. What's the difference?
Michael Watt of Wolfpack racing coming into the light in the Garbanzo trees.
Tim Eaton of Giant Bikes threading through trees.
Claire Buchar was the other rider many had picked for the win on the Garbo: Claire's been a Whistler local for years, and while the tracks here get beat in and evolve as much as they do anywhere else, the main lines are the same and Buchar has those wired so well she could likely ride with a blindfold.
Trail side debris mid way down the track.
Nice to know that the guy tuning your suspension can actually ride, isn't it? Eli Krahenbuhl of Fox Racing Shox took 30th in the Pro men's category of the Garbo DH.
Dust and light, and glory.
After the top technical rocky, teeth-rattling rooty section of the course, racers pinned it on the flats to get to the next dusty, rooty, technical section of the course.
Sun flares and silhouettes make for happy photographers on the Garbanzo DH.
Chris Kovarik taking the slot option on rider's right on "In Deep". Kovarik was a rider to watch on the Garbo DH--he's a semi local, after all, and while he's not racing World Cup any longer, he's not really lost a step, particularly not on his "home" turf.
Hart and soul, soul crushing down upper Garb. Not quite enough to hit the podium
Blenki took the high line on rider's left--a far steeper drop.
Marcello Gutierrez dropping into "In Deep".
Top Pro Women (L-R): Claire Buchar (2), Emmeline Ragot (1), Holly Feniak (3).
Top Pro men (L-R): Sam Blenkinsop (2), Marcello Gutierrez (1), Remi Gauvin (3)
not really what i meant there bud those are just general pictures of the race over the years im looking for the individual photographers that were up there taking pictures of the race
Garbonzo, garbo, gamonzo...any other variation of GARBANZO? Surreal to have a race this important messing up with MSA and on top of that is the uci rule of unsanctiones races... This is starting to look as messy as spanish goverment
Congrats Paris Gore for those perfect epic shots. And congrats to Brazilian Lucas Borba for the amazing win in the juniors. Wachout for these guy talent!!!
if a UCI sanctioned racer races in a non sanctioned race they are given an "unfair advantage?" over their competitors. they will be suspended from the UCI curcuit. thats the law, idk if they will follow thru
I guess the high line is more direct but the butt crack you can attack a bit quicker and maybe accelerate out too... Ive never hit the high line though. I was also amazed to see more people hitting the second longer chute rather than the rock roll... in the video to a guy sneaks behind the tree and the rock! Crazy!

A comment like that, in that race field, should have you whipped repeatedly with your own blond wig.

I see a lot of pros doing the butt crack instead - thoughts ?
