 Redbull = worst thing ever to happen to mountain biking.
Before the UCI sold the rights to redbull, the world cup was shown on Freecaster and Eurosport and could be streamed from the Dirt, Pinkbike, Vital etc as well as highlights from the likes of the Parkin brothers.
At its peak, viewing figures reached 14.5 million on Eurosport!
This meant the riders could attract mega bucks sponsorship deals.. remember Nissan, Honda etc being involved?
Since Redbull took over the ONLY place anyone can watch the event is redbull TV and it doesnt even work!
Viewing figures have dropped to a few hundred thousand, other sites are no longer alloed to stream and no one is allowed to film the racing!
So no more highlights from the Parkins and much smaller wages for the riders involved.

 Let's not forget how much better Rob's commentary was on Freecaster. From my perspective I would have been far more hyped for the race today if we had the same style of commentary as when Danny won worlds. I miss the hype

 on top of all that... Redbull doesn't understand which TRACK SECTIONS TO FILM. Today they missed the ROCK GARDEN and THE TRIPLE JUMP. In the past they have constantly missed the sections where a race is won or lost. Redbull makes money off of extreme athletes yet their FILM PRODUCTION DOES NOT INSPIRE, INNOVATE, OR PUSH ANY LIMITS. SOMEONE PLEASE BRING BACK FREECASTER OR SET UP A PETITION TO GET RID OF REDBULL FROM MOUNTAIN BIKING.

 Red Bull TV didn't work on my phone or tab so I had to watch on Facebook live. The stream was a lot smoother than it normally is on Red Bull TV, albeit too small.

It peaked at 1.8k viewers, which means only 1800 people were watching it. 1800? Is that all? Now I read it was 14 million on Eurosport.

 Agreed, freecaster had its problems but, I preferred it. More riders an full runs. Rebulls coverage is like live streaming edited highlights of riders runs!

 Redbull - the worst thing that ever happened to MTB, Hahahah. I thought that if you grew big enough to be able to post comments on the internet, you have outgrown the tendency to ideas and expressions like: parents suck. Redbull is one of the biggest contributors to the development of MTB. If you can't get that then you may need to get your sht together. Remember Rocky Roads? So... If you don't like UCI or Redbull or Specialized but want debelopment of the sport then go play RPG, take psychodelics. You must escape this reality ASAP!

Where to start...they do not offer a 29er, until it is established and has a market share (i.e. profitable). Then they are all in. They poo poo 27.5, realize that it is going to replace 26" and take part of 29ers share and they bodge together existing frames with new stays and stacers under headset cups to sell 27.5 bikes.
Putting a hatch in your downtube? Does anyone chose a bike for that feature?
"Innovate or die" still makes me laugh.
If anything, they squash development by threatening anything remotely related to their products with litigation.

 I don't like Specialized because of their legal bullying.

Having said that, I've recently noticed that they sell some pretty awesome stuff at reasonable prices. For example, the Butcher tyres, which are very similar to the Minion DHF but cheaper. Just ÂŁ35 in Grid casing, which is comparable to Schwalbe's SG but 40% cheaper.

The 2FO shoes look awesome too, along with the Dissident helmet. Both very reasonably priced. I'm going to get the shoes this summer. Maybe even the helmet too. Why limit yourself?

 Apparently there’s knowledge that is out of my reach. How’s that Hart’s splits were: 2nd, 3rd, 3rd, 2nd and he scored higher than Gwin, who was the fastest on every split?
Now, when I caught your attention as well, I would like to tell a story. A friend of mine, who rides dh better than average Joey, a lot better, had a chance to meet Danny. At one moment – apparently – Danny decided to go to a bakery. My friend decided to accompany Danny. Danny was having time of his life, enjoying nature, surroundings and slow pace. On the other hand my friend was fighting for his life, trying to catch up Danny. On 8-minutes track Danny managed to gain 21 minutes of lead over my friend. To sum up, next time seeing Danny remember to bow to one of the fastest men in the world. The end.

Danny was just crousing, while quite well riding friend was trying his best. Just shows the gap between pros and rest of the world. But whatever...

 @Borro: Split times cut the track into 5 parts. He was slower in all 4 but very very close. He was faster on the last one. ("split 5 = finish line")

Start...(slower)...split 1...(slower)...split 2...(slower)...split 3...(slower)...split 4...(faster)...finish.

 @Borro: The split times don't represent the difference between the two riders for that portion of the track, they represent the difference for the entire track up to that point. So if rider A was considerably faster in Split 1, then rider B could ride split 2 faster but still be behind overall. Does that make sense? Here's an example with the actual time it took to ride each split, with the total lap time (which is what is being presented on TV) beside it in brackets.

Split 1 A: 30 seconds [00:30]
Split 1 B: 45 seconds [00:45, +0:15]
Difference: Rider B shows that he is back 15 seconds

Split 2 A: 30 seconds [1:00]
Split 2 B: 20 seconds [1:05, +0:05]
Difference: Rider B's total time is still 5 seconds slower, even though he was faster in this split, so he would still show as being in the red.

Finish line A: 30 seconds [1:30, +0:01]
Finish line B: 24 seconds [1:29]
Result: Rider B won the race by one second!

Therefore Danny was trailing Gwin most of the track, but towards the bottom was probably starting to do the specific split sections faster.

 On the Roku app the live stream always begins 15 minutes after it does on the mobile app so it's 15 behind. When the stream ends on the mobile, it stops on the Roku app too even though it's not in sync, so you miss the last 15 of the race and have to wait for the replay to go up. Today it only took like 20 minutes but sometimes it's like 10 hours.

I know the difference between world champs and just a race on the regular schedule. Sorry, ive never liked how Worlds is a non- factor towards the overall. The biggest race of the year that everyone and their grandma attends and you get a white t-shirt for winning. Seems like every year Worlds overshadows the overall title and that's who the real world champ is.

 @RatHunter83: The problem with World Champs counting for the overall is that each country can only qualify a limited number of riders. So if you come from, say, GB you could be hunting for a top 20 or top 15 overall but not get selected to ride worlds, but your direct competitors from weaker countries would get selected and therefore have the opportunity to win a whole race worth of free points against you, and that's a massive handicap.

The second thing is, if Worlds counts towards the overall then it would be just another race, and some riders might be in a position where a conservative ride with guaranteed points is better than a more risky run. As it is now, Worlds is a balls to the wall, all or nothing, one run throwdown. And that's why it's not just another World Cup.

 @el-nombre: Great question. You have to go with someone who's been knocking on the door for a while, with solid results on all kinds of tracks. Mik Hannah has won a World Cup race, right? I know Brendog hasn't. Maybe he's the next "best rider to never win a World Cup race." He hasn't ever really been knocking on the door though. Mostly he's happy if he's in the top ten. Rarely if ever on the podium. Nominees anyone?

 I'm in a construction camp in Western Australia in the middle off fucking nowhere and my feed wasn't too bad. Stoked to see tahnee stick it to atherton and hart get his first win. Even better to see fearon get a clean run and get on the podium. Live watching that guy ride

 I'm wondering wtf. I actually think he needs to ride more big mountains. The level is so high now you can't afford to be not riding wc tracks all the time. Look at the times 70 odd riders and 20 sec off the win, so close.

 Most of those young dominators are unstoppable until they take a legit digger. Only limited few like Minnaar come back and get even better. Danny seems to have recovered but he has a long way to winning consistency. Gwin hasn't been down properly yet. Hill seems to have never got back into his notorious winning ways after Fort William's bail. Maybe the world progressed so much while he was out. Impossible to tell.

 I haven't seen an entire World Cup telecast since the start of the season and its sad to see how much the style of commentating has changed. Nothing against Claudio or Rob, but they are getting very boring! I think we all know what the problem is. Bring back the good Ol days of Warner getting loose in the commentary box, dropping his one liners and having abit of fun. Damn fun police
