Seconded. I have the opportunity to go here in a couple months and if anyone from the area could post some favorite distilleries with some favorite trails it would be greatly appreciated!
@stealthpenguin: head to Glasgow and there's a pub called the copper still, all the whisky and info you'll need for a local tour. The barman really knows his sheet.
Scotland is ok Everywhere has its attraction. Here... the barron landscapes, rock, wind, real dirt, and arctic style pine forests are all fantastic. I love this country. Working 1 hour from Torridon... I should ride it more mid week.
@mikeep: Or the cold, the wet, the damp, the early darkness 8 months a year, and the misery. But, for a week in August, fingers crossed re the rain, it's really very nice.
@mikeep: those wee beasts... smidge works pretty well, but nothing works 100%. It's our strategy for keeping the hills pretty empty.
Davidsimons. ... haha. I gave you a prop for that. It has snowed ever month from November. Including today. 6 months a year for the early darkness. But mid summer.... you can ride until around 2300 and for the winter we have cheap Chinese lights.
I hope that you have a great time in August over here and are planning to ride some nice trails.
It's not JUST the North West, they also do the utterly amazing Tweed Valley, home to some of the steepest wee trails known to man thanks to the local bike shop trail building guru's, they even have one named " too hard for EWS " it was built for the EWS but they wimped out and didn't use it haha, says it all about the place
There is loads if steeps around Scotland. Need to ride "too hard for EWS" at some point too see what it's about. we have some pretty steep and pretty gnarly tracks up here, like many steep and rough local tracks though, you couldn't even put a bds near them.
If we land in Glasgow in late July, what would you recommend for bike hire and trails in the Glasgow Edinburgh Dumfries area? 2 of us, fit but average ability. Day trips whisky / bike tours. Thanks
I have never been tempted by these types of organised ride but you guys have it nailed. Mebbes one day my brother and I will get on the blower and get in touch - never ridden NW before.
I've had a bit of a relapse on my annual visit to Scotland. Even just for hiking but i'm getting desperate to go back now and with my bike. If only the wife wasn't scared by blue runs.
@boardinbob: you're the one trolling me dude, making aggressive personal comments and I've made any comments about your sexuality. I said I don't swing that way which is about mine so I think you are a bit paranoid
I find your use of the word "gay" as a term to describe things you don't like, unacceptable. It's nothing personal against you. I would, and do, call anyone out that uses that term as a slur.
As a member of the Glasgow Meetup group, you will be on rides with people of alternative sexuality. Would you use the term "gay" to criticise something or someone in their company? If you would, then I'll just walk away from this one now as I doubt we'll ever see eye to eye on this.
@boardinbob yes I would, I have and I don't care if you get offended as thats your problem not mine but to troll any reply to my posts calling me a homophobe is libelous.
Thankfully we live in a country with free speach so if I want to use gay or ghey to describe an inanimate object I can. Its not illegal to do so nor is it a slur. If you continue to troll and libel me I will be forced to report you to the mods as the owners of the site are responsible for the "publication".
for the record I don't care what sexuality you are, its irrelavent to my life.

Scotland is Gods country!!!
You're just the very epitome of a keyboard warrior Ross.
And that's the 2nd time you've made a snide comment about my sexuality.
Don't worry princess, I'm not gay so you've got nothing to be scared of. I just detest homophobic little creeps like you.
