Not good for the riders. One day less training for the gnarliest courses and riding of the year does only favour the organizers, not the athletes.
  • 62 10
^ better chance at good weather for the riders so yes, good for them. However, IT f*ckING BLOWS FOR THE REST OF US! GOD f*ckING DAMN IT! I DON'T THINK I CAN TAKE OFF f*ckING WORK SHIT BALLS!

Looks like I'm gonna miss finals. Work sucks!!!

@monarch87 the organizers could care less about the riders... otherwise would not push them to risk wheelchair in order to promote a beverage that is bad for your health in the first place.
  • 13 1
I'm on break that day! Hooray for high school!!
  • 33 1
@MojoMaujer do you really think those guys are out there to promote Red Bull? No that's a side effect, they're out there to ride the gnarliest shit out there to prove to themselves and others it's possible and just to push the very limits. They fully understand the risks of the sport and Rampage.
  • 8 0
@Monarch87 Riding in better conditions is better for the riders. I'm sure they will be happy to not be riding in a downpour. And how does having the finals on a Friday when most people can't watch vs. a Saturday that people have planned for benefit the organizers. By definition, they are the ORGANIZERS and could have put it on the Friday in the first place if this was optimal.
  • 23 4
@MojoMaujer what is your problem? You're hating on everything!? Do you even ride Mountainbike? Did you ever have a good day in your life, before? I don't think so.
And the nice thing about the internet is:
If you don't like it: Don't look at it/click on it.
But I don't understand why you are using your time for hating, or more of trolling around and piss all the others off.
So please stop wasting our time to read your [insert adjective here] comments.
Thank you.

drumhellraiser- You can't predict the weather 4-5 months out and Friday was reserved for the practice day. It doesn't benefit the organizers at all moving to a Friday but Sunday is out so what other options do they have? They changed to Saturday this time around instead of the usual Sunday because of weather holds that have twice forced the finals to take place on Monday. Weather is a bitch, that is all.
  • 10 3
@MojoMaujer You must be so fun at parties
  • 2 1
Nepalese flag? that's new. Takes two to tango, and without Redbull these guys wouldn't even be able to do an event like this. You could whine like that about any sport.

More people are paralyzed in car crashes than anything else... so let's all stop driving, moving, going outside. Got to be safe right. Life ain't worth protecting if it can't be fully lived!!!

i am just sayin'... these people are out there Promoting Red Bull.
Red bull is an health hazard according to what you can read online. So are cigarettes. BTW do you know cigarettes used to be advertised to cyclist right? The great eddy mex (if you know who he is)
Kids see the riders sipping on the red bull bidon and think its coo. They don't know there is no energy drink there.
Props to the only rider who dropped his cancer-energy drink sponsor. Wonder why he is the coolest.
keep watching videos, I have a 13000 feet climb to do.

'nuff said.

@MojoMaujer - I have not heard of eddy mex, but i have heard of eddy merckx. Any relation?????

I was just able to get work off for finals!!!! I'll be trying to get some cool photos.
  • 6 0
Yeah, I don't drink the stuff, but as I said in another post, Red Bull, the big, evil "poison merchants" in question, have unquestionably done more than ANY other corporation in terms of giving elite action sports athletes the best possible venues for advancing their particular discipline. Rampage is the best example of this, but Joyride, Hardline, Dreamline, and hundreds of other events have pushed progression. Athletes they sponsor are given the support to, again, advance and progress whatever it is they do. Guys at the top of the game like Lacondeguy, Semenuk, Atherton(s), Smith, Macaskill, Berrecloth, Gwin, Granieri... they're given the tools to stay there, not to mention the development of resources for young guys like Thelander, Genon, and Messere. Red Bull in and of itself is, at its core, a sugary, caffeinated soda. I don't drink it, as I prefer the benefits of water, coffee, and BCAAs. That doesn't mean I see anything wrong with a corporation who utilizes its marketing budget to DIRECTLY influence and evolve a sport that used to be all about lycra, triple chainrings and bar-ends.
  • 1 0
@shredmdp just got the word like 10 minutes ago... I got off work!!! If you still need a ticket, PM me. One of my buddies has 2 extras on FB. I'm not sure if he still has them but he's no ticket scalper.

@MojoMaujer So when I am 45, or 55 I will understand... maybe I will have your wiseness then. We'll see.
In the meantime: Watch your words!

An now I will get back to the real life again. I'm out.

@Morrrice - In an interview for documentary about Carl Jung, a professor in psychology said once: When I was little I was taught to respect old people - they are the wise ones - my parents said. Then as a teenager I thought it was true as many of my friends and kids around seemed stupid. So I did with professors when I studied as many of my colleagues were doing lots of stupid things. When I became a Professor myself I noticed that there are as many stupid professors as wise ones. Now retired, after 45 years of practice as a psychologist I know that despite logic and likelihood, there is no correlation between age and wisdom
  • 2 1
 @WAKIdesigns True words...
Wisdom is not a matter of age, but of behaviour, knowlege and experience, I'd say.
But I'm open for any other suggestions, and thoughts.

A school I-Pad? God I'm old... And I thought it was a tad over the top when my boss bought I-Pads to everybody in the office, saying it is meant to improve work efficiency - yet here I am... The only thing I-Pad is effective at is being a baby sitter, that's it!
  • 1 0
@wakidesigns I know right. This year every student was issued an iPad and there are honestly such a distraction. When we are taking notes people are playing Fifa. I'd bet that overall grades are going to drop this year.

ever heard of a replay? just stay away from social media, all your friends and you should be good!
  • 15 3
No, no replay. It would be morally wrong. Replay of Red Bull Rampage was never an option.
  • 7 0
always fun to watch live but the nice thing is in our sport you won't see stuff on TV or the radio all you got to do is put your phone on flight mode and stay off the computer
  • 2 1
I don't think I watch anything live anymore. Even sporting events on TV usually get DVR'd just so I can fast forward the commercials.
  • 2 0
I'm not sure if there will be an option to replay the event right away on Red Bull TV like the DH world cups since it's part of the Red Bull Signature Series. I think I watched the replay last year, but I'm not 100% sure. Could have been live.
  • 1 0
There should be a replay even though its part of the Signature Series. There has been a replay the past few years for Rampage as well as Joyride, which is also part of the signature series.
  • 2 2
They don't do a replay - If you miss it you have to wait until *Gasp* December 27th and watch it with NBC commentators - Don't do that to yourself!
  • 2 0
Thats just not true unless its something new this year. I've watched the entire thing on replay the last 2 years.
  • 2 0
Will add that there was definitely a replay last yr. You could even click on each of both runs for each rider...skipping the inbetween stuff. It might take them a few days to get it up tho....
  • 2 0
Yea they do that for the WC replays too. You can skip and jump right to specific riders runs.

20 week baby scan followed by 20 beers and 40 odd nut bars jumping off cliffs. Then more time for riding at the weekend! Sorry for those guys who this isn't so good for!
  • 3 0
Just curious, do they not have a replay of this once it is done? I know it is playable only with the crapstastically awesome Red Bull video player (maybe if the owner's son would buy one less exotic car, we could have a player that is nice).

Wondering why all the bitching about the time change when a replay is available.
  • 1 0
I couldn't replay it last year - They put up like a couple 2-minute recap videos, but you couldn't access the full live broadcast again until Dec 27th when it aired on NBC.
  • 6 0
god dam, i have a uni final on the final -_-

Doctors note for a bad case of the rampage
  • 1 0
yep my 9 credit exam and rampage now start at the same time. Weekend was supposed to go..Friday exam, evening ride, Saturday rampage, Sunday DH all day!
  • 4 2
Glad that so many of you can whatch the finals at a more convenient time...

IMHO you forgot the most important thing about this : Competitors have less time for building / preparing / practice their lines.

I assume we won't see all of the real massive tricks some of the riders had in mind. :-(
  • 8 7
dude, this is hilarious...scrolling down and seeing ppl from all around the globe cheer to the news...but no, theres this oh so calculated negative nancy talk...checkin the username and country...bäng, not surprised.

cheer up - better to have 1 day less of practice than dangerous conditions or even delay to monday or whatever...
  • 3 0
@Switzerlanded, I guess the decision has been made in consultation with the riders Wink
  • 3 0
Would you prefer rampage or no rampage? Avoiding storms is the best decision IMHO
  • 4 0
Even if they postponed it to monday, the rain will wreck the course over the weekend, this is probably the better option.
  • 2 0
Trails washed away , riders blown off cliffs and lightening strikes or... Ride a day earlier ?

I can see why you are concerned though
  • 2 1
new flash..thunderstorm at 9am and 2pm on Friday, Saturday thunderstorm at 10am.....next weekend no chance of rain and in the 70's. Pushing a week might be the safest for the riders but the most inconvenient. Hmm, whats RB gonna do?
  • 2 0
Pushing it a week would be rough. All that water would have been nice last week to help with line building. It gets dumped on right now they'll literally have to rebuild everything. They'll try and get through it. That's probably why it's gonna kick of early in the morning. Afternoon is gonna be windy as hell on friday. For the life of me I can't figure out why they keep doing it at the same damned time every year. I know it's hotter earlier but maybe moving it forward in the future would be wise. Every year they get hit with crazy ass wind and rain scares. One year it probably helped cost T.McCaul a podium. He threw down a beast of a safety run but never got to go out and do his second run. That kind of thing should be unacceptable. Needs to be like mavericks. You're on the list... the weather looks bomb for 2-3 weeks straight... you get a call. Come build your line and go.
  • 1 0
@onemanarmy - The problem is that while we watch for one day, the event is a week long when you consider the digging, practice and everything else combined. The "window" system works in surfing because they can basically come and run the entire contest in a day or two. There is no building and prep like Rampage. When you are trying to plan out for a full week long event that's almost impossible because the accuracy of weather forecasts is not very reliable a week out, which is when they would have to make the call to start the ball rolling. Looking at a 7 day forecast is basically useless as the accuracy is not very high.

@bikkiing - I am assuming that you got that info from a website or weather app. But one thing to keep in mind is that for an event Redbull is likely working with private meteorologists who are providing highly detailed forecasts for that specific site. Weather sites and apps are fine for regular people to get an idea of what the weather will be like but they are ultimately just computer generated forecasts. They are ok but a real monitoring the weather in real time will be able to give them much more detail as to what weather is coming and exactly when when it will come.
  • 1 0
Pretty sure that's why I said 2-3 weeks of weather. Right now they pick a date and that's the date. Very little flexibility. This is year 2 at this location. The longer it's at the same location the less digging is required.

As for forecasts and what not. I completely disagree. But then again... I use the forecasts for snowboarding all the time.... I have a trip every year that I put together. The guys all know they're on call from Mid Feb to late March. When I see a storm cluster coming I set it up. So far I've landed fresh powder nearly every year. Last 2 years we just picked a date and went because the snow conditions were garbage so we knew we'd be doing more drinking than usual. LOL!

So... I figure if I can do it... why can't redbull? And if they can predict swell then why not rain storms.

Either way. Doesn't really matter. Was really just a comment. Weather is weather. Tons of events are effected by them... rain, wind, etc.

But with Rampage it's been fairly consistent with afternoon wind. I didn't agree with them just stopping the contest due to wind before. In that case it seems to me that they can extend it so everyone gets their runs in. When you shut down an event you get guys thinking... damn.. winds are kicking up so I better just try to get my run in before they shut us down. Then you have guys getting blown in to ledges and busting their femurs.

All ideas. Really means nothing and ultimately... who cares. I can't wait to see this. Best dudes in the world with the biggest balls just going for it. Stoked.

Weather is not looking good boys, Thunderstorms and rain forecasted from Thursday night thru Sunday. Wonder what they are going to do now?? Cause if the rain is heavy Thursday night, and thru Friday morning the course is not gonna be ideal.
  • 2 0
Seems like Rampage timeline should be brought up. 2 years in a row where weather is affecting the competition.
  • 1 0
Been a lot more than 2 years in a row. Wind is ALWAYS an issue. Especially in the afternoon.
  • 2 0
So earlier in the day and earlier in the year
  • 1 0
As someone else posted above, It's too hot(or has the potential to be) before mid-October in the desert southwest. & they have moved it up a bit, 2004 was on Halloween. Any earlier though, & you're gonna have riders passing out from building all day in the heat, & unable to compete. This year was gonna be brutal regardless with a strong el nino though, we're going to have storms beating on us all fall(Californians are unlikely to complain.)
