For those interested in the woman race, Cecile Ravanel won. Megigie Bichard (Ibis Nz) is second and Raewyin Morrison completes the podium.

The WC coverage by PB recently has been great. Coverage of one the most iconic races in MTB history, complete failure. Not a single photo, comentary NOTHING. PB Fail.

Well, I think the Crankworks being at the exact same time played a lot against the Mega, it's far more entertaining to watch. Plus, I don't know why but i feel the Mega has lost of it's aura; look at the grid, it isn't as stacked as it used to be.

It's weird, Remy always had great results in french and european enduro [races], he also did (and still do) great at the Mega, but he seems to struggle getting good results in the EWS

flag endurocat (Jul 12, 2015 at 13:42) (Below Threshold)
@zede I think he does very well on tracks suited to the 29er.
EWS tracks are more technical.
Justin Leov does well because of his DH background, as of know the 650b has the advantage.

I thought he mostly rides the genius 700 tuned @enrico650?

First, don't get me wrong but i think Remy rides on a genius LT, hence using 27.5 rims.
Then, I think the answer is two fold, there is only downhill at the mega and you don't find the same racers. What would be the result of a J.Graves taking part in the race? If I'm right, the couple of time J.Clementz raced he finished either first or second. WARNING: I'm not saying R.Absalon is bad, I like this guy a lot ! hey, he's french and has been one of the pioneers in enduro racing.

Wrong, just check his fb, he has a pic with some explaining, his riding the new Lt plus frame with 29 wheels because the lack of plus tiers.

When has Jamie Nicoll switched from Polygon?
  • 1 1
Yeah that's interesting. I wonder if it's a mistake? he was on a santa cruz before.
  • 1 1
He switched in the 2014 season.

Remy wins on a scott genius LT with 29 wheels ! Prepared by conforme garage. You can check this build on remy absalon facebook...
FOr the reste, megavalanche is now a old race (20 years). But this is an incredible race ! With the infamous mass start on the glacier. You are a second megavalanche on La Réunion island, with a long single part in the jungle.
Nice come back for new sunn team !!

Question: Mega avalanche starts at the top of a mountain and ends at the bottom. There aren't any timed stages or climbs and everyone goes at once, so why is it still considered an endure race? Thanks for any explanation.
  • 3 0
It has a few flat sections and a few climbs and is 40 Minutes long for the quickest guys, so I guess you need some endurance...
  • 2 0
Isn't Megavalanche almost 20 years old now? Also, a mass start on a glacier and a single timed downhill stage of over 40 minutes is certainly worthy of any term it wants considering how long the race has been around and how it still ranks as a pretty cool event overall for most fans of the sport.

It took me two hours to get down. I crashed three times of which one was a full on face plant. In the long root section I was literally screaming 'AHHH MY ARMS!' Definitely requires a bit of endurance.
