big ups to whistler's jack Iles for qualifying for his first elite world cup!
60th place, 1 tenth and one spot ahead of greg minnar.
16.6 sec off the pace, but whatever, he made the sunday show on his first try.
Laurie greenland would be place 9. at elite!!!!!! THIS KID IS 15!!!! ... or 17? dont know his birthday but i think he's about 15/16, tell me if im wrong, but this kid is an upcoming Champion.
@oldfaith Aaron Gwin got a DSQ because he crashed out of bounds. The DSQ was given because he did not re-enter the track at the same point he left it due to tumbling 20 yards down the hill. But it looks like he still gets to race tomorrow!!
Looking at the splits, Trace put that whole margin on Rach in the last minute of the track, I reckon she had an issue... either way, awesome to see Trace on point!
What the heck - Gwin won the race but Loic Bruni is in first place in the World Cup overall standings? How did that happen? Oh yeah, it was the 50 points he earned in qualifying!
Judging by the fact that his first split seemed a bit back, I would hazard a guess that Gwin went off the track somewhere near the top and didn't enter at the same point that he left the track, thus disqualifying him. But at least he's protected, being a top 20 rider
Seems the protection doesn't works for DNS...sam hill will not race tomorrow even if he feels better
And it's a shame Vergier wasn't protected as he moved up to elite category.
and bummer for Eliot Jackson...
Yeah protection doesn't work for dns. I remember Gee just rolling out of the start gate a few years ago when he was injured just so would be eligable to race.
Yeah Gee and Rach have both done that in recent years, but I guess Sam's injury is enough that he knows he doesn't want to race tomorrow so it's presumably pretty serious. His wife said on Instagram that she hopes he's better for Fort Bill so it doesn't sound like its minor.
He went off course because he thought he saw the virgin mary on a berm. Turned out to be a cloud of dust left by Loic Bruni. Then he came in further down than when he went out.
Gwin crashed over the handlebars and his bike went over the course tape and down the track slightly so he went down to where his bike was and rode on from there. It wasn't just as simple as he went off the track and started again lower down.
So amped for Deano sitting in 5th and Connor in 6th (at the time of typing this comment!) These guys are two riders to watch for sure! Gutted for Sam though...
It seems like almost all of the quick juniors have moved up to elite this year apart from Laurie Greenland. I'd be surprised if he doesn't dominate the category this year.
Amazing to see bryceland so competitive after such a serious injury. It wasn't serious in a life threatening sense but ankles are complex things to heal sometimes.
Oops, yeah his foot.
Gotta respect all these athletes. They get injured and then bounce back quickly by spending tons of time on physical therapy and training.
Being in top shape goes a long way in recovering from injuries. If that was you or I that blew our foot up, we'd be lucky to be back on a bike by now, let alone throwing down a top-3 qualifier at a WC DH race.
Gee and Gwin shouldn't be written off because of their mishaps in qualifying today. Their times from timed training yesterday would have placed them both well into the top ten for qualifying. Should be a great race tomorrow. Also looking to see how Neko does. Going to be awesome! Can't wait!
Only 11 seconds back, pretty incredible really; times are fairly tight for a relatively long and rough track. 90% chance of rain tonight though! That could really shake things in Danny's favor!
Ohhh man.... if Bruni wins tomorrow, on home soil, all hell is gonna get loose.... they are gonna take down the house and turn France upside down.... That's gonna be one epic win! Somebody is gonna get hurt maybe even die.... Wow.... is this the most exciting world cup or what????
It's going to be a very interesting race tomorrow after the results today. Maybe this is the season we will see a fresh wave of up and commers wipe the older guys off the mantle.
I doubt they made the exact same kona operator with the same color with different geo for Connor in 27.5. And you think they would have said something about him riding a 27.5 operator. But congrats on making top 10 on a 26
They aren't being acknowledged by the UCI as an "elite" team due to their kits mis-matching. Meanwhile, over at Specialized Factory Racing...the kits Brosnan and Gwin are rocking don't look "uniform".
The moral of the story? The UCI is a hypocritical pile of crap.
To correct myself, it's the different brands of kits the Syndicate are using. Spec, I believe, use the same brand of kit at least.
I still stand behind the whole UCI being a hypocritical pile of crap part, though.
Connor is back to 26 inches with the Operator, that proto frame was 27'5 but it was not a Precept, it was just a test mule. I think that Kona's going to get Fearon a 27,5 Operator soon, maybe even sooner.
@olaffons Really looks like a 27.5" Operator, the rear base is longer than the one on their website, and the fork looks like a 27.5" Boxxer.
Take a look at this one (27.5" I think) : instagram.com/p/1TUcBkHT7Y And this other one (26") : instagram.com/p/1Od2olnT57 -> Not the same fork, and the speeds-gears aren't at the same place behind the pivot point.
yes guys, Connor its riding a Kona Carbon Operator 27.5 wheels front and rear, same front triangle as the 26 with 27.5 fork & a little bit longer chainstays its a "prototype".
Minnaar suffered a torn ligament in his thumb just two weeks ago in NZ. He had surgery and a special cast placed on, but it's just not worth aggravating and chancing for a worse/longer recovery time. Wish he would just sit it out and let it heal. I love when Greg is a torpedo!
Hopefully these words echoed in ratboys head!

she qualified well so the racing gods won't let her crash?
whats your point?
lol.
the "Q" on the right of the point means "qualified for the race" I think.
So no, vergier won't be racing...
Gutted for Sam though...
1st split: 10th
2nd split: 6th
... DNF
what a bummer!

It's a long way from over (as long as he doesn't get shit faced tonight).

Edit: NM found it.
The Operator is still 26"
