PEATY ONLY 32.5 SECONDS OFF THE PACE, YOU CAN DO IT PEATY!!
  • 13 0
not bad for stitches in his leg/ankle
  • 13 0
Nice to see him back on his bike. Too bad he's out of the top 80 and wont be racing tomorrow Frown Even at his age he's a consistent Top 20 racer. A True Legend and I hope we see him next year in full form.
  • 3 6
Is he not a protected rider?
  • 7 0
no he hasn't raced this yr so has no points only top 20 are protected
  • 1 1
He finished 122, afraid he can't.
  • 29 3
Lets vote for a PL status. "Protected Legend"!
(in addition to the others who qualify)

Troy laying down a scorcher. If he can keep on the bike, the win is within reach... he was on Gwin's pace at Windham after his crash. Feel like he's been quietly building momentum and is ready to unleash on Val Di Sole and world champs, pulling for him to lay down his best!
  • 11 1
Yeah dude, he's got some serious pace. Perfect track for him.
  • 13 6
Troy living and practicing in Whistler BC has sure paid off this year. He's riding so relaxed and looks to be having a blast on the bike!
  • 11 5
Rooting for a Brosnan/Gwin 1/2, in that order.
  • 4 1
Look at the first split, He's got another 2 seconds in his pocket at least! And he better pull them out if Gwin Tidies up his second section.
  • 1 0
Even during practice he was still consistently putting down a few more KPH at each split. Oh boy this is gonna be good.
  • 18 1
Two demos looking like a possible 1 & 2 ... where is Protour? Has he retired?

Forget the hype, Troy is the real talent on that team.

flag jclnv (Aug 21, 2015 at 8:06) (Below Threshold)
Sorry kids but that's the truth. You can't teach someone to ride like he does.
  • 29 2
The hype? Do you mean the World Cup standings?
  • 7 44
flag jclnv (Aug 21, 2015 at 8:31) (Below Threshold)
No hype like saying Gwin's Wyndham was the best ever etc when Troy went OTB but still matched Gwin's second split. I'm not blaming Gwin, it's BS media hype.
  • 20 1
You aren't making any sense. Both of those guys are super talented, as are any riders on the WC circuit. How much media hype is there really about this sport?
  • 5 1
Top three within a second--then a 3 second gap. Should be interesting tomorrow!!
  • 24 4
bruh this is dh mountain biking, not the NFL. this sport is not nearly big/important enough (to the general public) to have "media hype".

youre delusional, go home and read a book
  • 34 3
Jcnlv, congrats you win Joey of the day!
  • 4 0
It certainly was impressive qualifying, but I have a feeling that a certain someone was sandbagging.. only 77th fastest through the speed trap?.. we shall see what happens race day! Exciting stuff!
  • 1 0
Looks like the "hype" is real! Rather than saying you can't teach someone the riding talent of Brosnan, which several including Gwin have and even surpass, maybe you should hope someone to teach Troy to put a complete run together, moments of brilliance do not win races.
  • 3 2
For the last three races the fastest guy has been Brosnan. He can afford to dial it back and still win. Nobody else has that option. Once he gets his head around that we'll see. Hopefully in Andora.
  • 1 0
right. hes doing plenty of winning so far.
  • 2 1
Pressure isn't it. He beat everyone at Crankworx and he was cruising. As Peaty says, it's a head game.
  • 1 0
Yeah he's a good kid with crazy style. I like loads of the current crop though.
  • 38 5

It doesn't seem to matter what happens to Gwin, he'll win anyway!

I don't know, not the best condition for the stiff suspension he likes to ride, but anyway Gwin is unsane..
  • 15 1
That’s like saying Gwin can only win on a BMX track...
  • 18 0
The rougher the track the more Gwin comes in to his own
  • 10 12
@jamescmy Gwin can win on every track because he is that good, but he likes his setup hard and if you make a litlle mistake on such track it'll cost you time with such layout..
  • 17 2
The whole point of the stiffer setup is to make up even more time on a rougher track not the other way around... the bike doesn't fall into the holes so much but you have to be some kind of a beast to hold on which is why not everyone can do it to such extremes Smile
  • 7 4
Dai is correct, why all the neg props??? Soft rolls over wet roots better, I ride rigid & in the wet it slides off course on wet roots way more than a bike with suspension. So this is the same situation. Instead of negging him as though he's stupid, why not ask why he thinks that is the case. I know for a fact that he is correct. Not saying Gwin isn't great, not his suspension set up, but in the wet, a softer bike holds it's line better.
  • 1 0
Which is perhaps true in the wet (and I am sure he adjusts his suspension accordingly in relation to his preference for such conditions) but VDS is mostly/mainly dry now. It's not typical Italian summer moon dust, but it's not a grease fest like it was earlier in the week.
  • 36 16
I would really like to see Danny, Gee or Bruni win.
  • 18 17
Loic Bruni 1st, Sam Hill 2nd, Michael Jones 3rd would be perfect. Then Sam Hill or RĂ©mi Thirion for the win in Andorra, but I suspect neither will be fit enough then. Loic again to round off a not-too-shabby year?
  • 46 26
I'd love to see Gee take a win this year. I am pulling for Greg though. I'm not a fan of Gwinny. Sorry, guys.

  • 4 1
what the hell just happened to mike jones?
  • 4 3
Don't know if you've noticed jonny-norco, but Danny isn't really all that competitive with the top guys anymore. It will be Loic, Troy, or Gwin. Nobody, save maybe Minaar, can match their level right now.
  • 17 1
How the hell did Troy make that time up from split 1 to 2... insane!!
  • 17 2
C'mon Loic mate, I want to see you win this year.
  • 21 6
 Possible that Gwin backed off?
  • 14 1
Not Gwin's style. He wants to win everything.
  • 34 4
Not sure why the negative props. I was honestly curious. Typical PB, ask a question and people get their panties in a twist.
  • 7 2
 yeah f..k em
  • 3 0
I mean it makes sense, why go buck wild during qualies and wreck?
  • 2 0
Gwin would lose a lot of fans if he sand bagged it. I don't think he will, he was talking at MSA about how Windham and VDS are his favorite tracks.
  • 6 0
Just saw an interview with Gwin during practice, said he wants to win and doesn't have enough points to ride easy. Had I heard those statements before I posted, I would have never asked.
  • 4 7
...oh, I just noticed my panties were twisted. Wow, I suddenly feel so much supportive and brotherly! never ever count Gwin out.
  • 7 0
If Greg Minnaar wins finals, Aaron Gwin needs to finish 30th or higher to win the overall.

Not sure what they would do if he finished 31st and it was a dead tie. I think they would first go to number of wins, but if Greg wins Val Di Sole, he and Aaron would be tied at 3 a piece.

What would they go to next? Total time for all 7 races? Number of qualification wins? Number of times Aaron has finished ahead of Greg and Greg ahead of Aaron regardless of place?
  • 2 0
Next they would count up the total number of 1sts, then 2nds, etc. If those were the same then they would take the results from the most recent (last) round.
  • 10 1
think that tomorrow Gwin will do history again and smash the field. at least 3 seconds ahead

If he is smart he shall take it easy. He just need a top 30 finish to take the overall. Of course he will do whatever Jesus tell him to do, so....perhaps he will win again without chain , tyre , whatever....

Troy, Bruni and Brendan win is what I'm hoping for. With Gwin for the overall.
  • 8 0
I really want Loic to win. I would also like to see Connor Fearon or Marcelo win.
  • 3 0
I'm always pulling for Gwin, but I'd like to see Loic win as well. He's young so I'm sure it's only a matter of time before he takes multiple wins and probably the overall with the consistency he's had this year.
  • 7 1
Love seeing all three Devinci riders in the top 15.
  • 8 2
Anyone else counting down the minutes 'till #76 comes down the mountain?
  • 2 0
 more interested for 91 tbh
  • 3 0
First time on a DH bike since Winter - I wasn't expecting much from Peaty tbh.
  • 1 0
Yeah but it's good to see him back. Hopefully he can get up to speed again soon
  • 5 1
If Minnaar wins the race, where does Gwin have to finish to still take the overall points?
  • 8 0
At Windham, they said that in order for Greg to win the overall, he needs to win qualifying & the final and Gwin needs to finish worse than 6th in the final. So, (in one instance) if Gwin wins qualies and places better than 6th in the final, the overall will for sure be his. If somebody could work it out for Loic that would be sweet.
  • 3 0
 Depends on qualification positions....
  • 4 0
 Anywhere north of 30th.
  • 61 0
 -
Standings after Qualies:
1. Aaron Gwin - 1129
2. Greg Minaar - 979 (+150)
3. Loic Bruni - 899 (+230)
4. Troy Brosnan - 873 (+256)
5. Josh Bryceland - 726 (+403)

Soooooo...:
- World Cup Champion is either Gwin or Minaar.
- If Minaar wins (+200), Gwin needs at least 50 points to have a draw, which means that he has to finish 31st or better.
- If Minaar gets second (+160), Gwin needs at least 10 points to have a draw, which means that he has to finish 71st or better.
  • 3 0
Nice, thanks. So that means that Loic still has a chance to regain 2nd as well, as long as he can put 81 points into Greg. Not impossible, but Greg would probably have to crash out or not start for that to be likely. Greg's on great form right now.
  • 3 0
Yeah, you're right. Even Troy has a good chance to end the season in 2nd place, if Minaar has a crash or some issues and Bruni finishes a few places behind him.
The chance to have a crash or a broken bike is pretty high for both Minaar and Gwin. Especially on this track!
So it's going to be interesting tomorrow! Big Grin
  • 2 0
& of course they're 4 fastest qualifiers, so we won't really know anything until the end, except if Ratboy throws down a blazing time, we'll know he has a chance of jumping to 3rd. Sad that I'll be unable to watch it live, but trailwork takes precedence.

edit: Unless any of them balls up during practice, & gets a DNS.
  • 2 0
Sounds good, I can't watch it live either but I'll see it on demand! Have a nice day dude. Salute
  • 11 9
Im a big Sam Hill fan since 2006... But I guess he's career is almost at eclipse... He will win once in a while but he will never have the consistency like a Minaar or Gwin.... Lets go Ratboy!!
  • 6 1
Shoulder injuries can really put these top World Cup racers off a little bit for years. A little is alot at the top.
  • 3 1
Remember he did win a stage during an EWS race this year. I would say that is pretty good for someone still recovering. It is also the last round, why would he come out and try to win? He is better keeping his health good and looking to next year.
  • 5 0
Also keep this in mind: he is not in contention for the overall, so he doesn't need the qualification points- he just needs to qualify. It could very well be that he saved his killer run for the final. It's not far fetched, and I hope that is the case.
  • 4 2
I think this year is a wash for Sam but next year on this same track Sam puts on the World Championship jersey one last time. Plus he redeems himself from the crash in 08'
  • 7 0
I think Sam is saving it for the champs, he doesn't have to do it for points because is wasted energy.
Better stay fit and ride some races to get a good result at the champs + next season.
But otherwise this is a track he likes and i hope he can redeem himself for that awfull slide out of '08.
  • 7 0
He won two races last season after injury and has had an injury for this. How many riders won races last year vs how many were racing? Silly comment.
  • 1 0
Don't forget he bashed his knee up pretty bad in Windham too so he was never gonna be firing on all cylinders for this one unfortunately. Hopefully it will be a very different story in Vallnord...
  • 1 0
Sam posted a pic on instagram a while ago of Gee in his Champs jersey and the caption read, "coming for what's mine". If you think Sam Hill is finished you are delusional. If he hadn't injured his shoulder he would have been one of the favourites for the overall. He won two races last season, Greg has won two this season. Sam Hill for World Champs.
  • 5 0
C'mon Casey, we need you on the podium tomorrow
  • 4 0
Loic Bruni deserve to win once this year !
  • 5 4
How do the splits work? Split 1 + Split 2 = more than the total time. Hoped to see tell tales signs of any quick riders who made a mistake in any sections to see if they might have a better run tomorrow
  • 8 0
you don't add the splits together, it just shows you the time it took for the rider to arrive at the timing marker at the split location.
  • 5 0
It's total time elapsed. initial time -> split 1-> split 2 -> final time.
  • 3 0
It's the time on the clock when they passed the imaginary split lines on the track, not the time between two split lines.

Gwin has in the bag. He doesn't need this win. He's going to back off a little and comes in 4th or 5th. It's a duel for the young studs of Brosnan and Loic.
  • 4 3
If Gwin is smart he will back off a bit tomorrow and take a solid top 10 and the title. Therefore I think someone else will win the race.
  • 2 1
I was thinking the same thing. He always says his focus is on the overall. However, the competition is good and sometimes it's hard to ride at a particular pace rather then just letting it flow.

Gwin won this course by around 8 seconds in the past. The overall is whats important, but knowing that he can kill this course has got to be tempting. It's gonna be gwinsane!

Does Gwin take the safe route and do well enough to lock him in for the overall, or does he just go for and let and let it all hang out and Gwin it!

Only 6 women down and Rachel again a machine. Luckely Manon and Myriam closeby...

On a track this physical and gnarly, I was honestly surprised to see them within 3 seconds from Rachel. Good for them, I hope it's a sign of closer competition in the ladies' field in the future.
