Top 20 separated by six seconds. Count to 6 in your head, in that time, 20 riders crossed the finish line. It's crazy to think that a second is considered a large margin in race terms on a track about 2.5 mins long. If you watched a top to bottom with gwin and ratty both as ghosts (similar to the gopro head to head between rachel and Manon) they would be almost parallel to each other the whole way down!
So stoked for ratty this season. Even if he is only now leading by a few points, he has had by far the best results this year. Two seconds and two firsts. And qualified top 3 at five of the events. If only he hadn't had the mechanical at pmb
Apparently a bit of drunken tomfoolery involving Sam Dale- a miss judged elbow to the face or something? I think they mention it in one of the track walk videos..
@lukachadwick In downhill ski races top 20 racers are usually separated by 1 sec on a course that is about the same length. In skiing a tenth of a sec is a lot!
Get the coastal crew to film the races. They'd get all the sick angles, rock gardens and wouldn't give us 30 seconds of people free wheeling down a grass slope. Plus I've never had a problem trying to play one of their movies.
Apologies for the disruption guys. A storm in Denver has interrupted the transmission. We'll keep you updated and drop a full VOD replay shortly after the race. from redbull tv... FML!!!
Blekinsop said "you're a machine!". Well done mr bryceland. With all the talk about this track not worthy the elite riders didn't have any problems turning it into one of the best races of the season. Great job to windham as well.
Not really hes good on tracks but commenting Rob is the best he alwaya shows just the good stuff of the riders, and claudio this time was to technical. Thats my point of view at least
claudio was awesome. You could tell he is well used to critiqueing riders style. I liked his insights. And of course Warners unbridled excitement about the smallest of things. Good team. Keep it up
From redbull: "Apologies for the disruption guys. A storm in Denver has interrupted the transmission. We'll keep you updated and drop a full VOD replay shortly after the race."
Stupid storm in Denver. Oh wait, I thought the broadcast was from New York. Totally lame.
@fatfingur: A lot of US sat feeds go through Denver because of its location relative to both coasts. Redbull most likely uses some company based in Denver to send its feed to the rest of the world.
Yes people on here should be grateful of the red bull coverage ,Back in the day there was no coverage you only got to read about the result in a mag a few weeks later
I'm greatfull for the feed but I'm gutted that I didn't get to see blenkies run all the way up to neko, it was for sure about to get thrilling after jones's long rest in the hot seat. I hope I get to watch, blenki, bulldog, hart and troys runs some time soon
amazing to read all the kooks complaining about redbull, they give you so much free content, and have a technical issue beyond their control and all you clowns are jumping down their throat. Where would DH be if there were no world cup live coverage? via Redbull?
THANK YOU! And if it wasn't the disrupted connection, it would have been lack of coverage or hate on the commentary! There's always something 'wrong' but Red Bull does SO much for the sport! I FEEL LIKE IM TAKIN CRAZY PILLS!
For the record, I was not complaining. Sad. Got to watch it last night at 2:30am during a bout of insomnia. RatBoy's lines were nutty and Gwin looked effortless. Awesomeness. Props to the big red bull!
Red Bull you still rock, thank you for all the radbess you brought to our sport. We are always on the edge of our seats on world cup day. \m/ punk rock points
Blew my front tyre today, snapped rim, spent afternoon in A&E with damaged wrist, Redbull coverage went down....then Ratboy goes and makes up for it. I'm off to Alps Friday and going to Meribel for the final...can't ******* wait
How about a big congratulations to Windham for getting the W.C. back in the U.S. and a big thank you to Stans for sponsoring the DH and the same to Red Bull for doing the best they could to cover the races instead of all the whining?
in all fairness to Gwin...the rat was getting manhandled by the entire santa cruz team....and the rat just did a classic sand in the face manoeuvre...but yeah
How is Redbull.tv live, when I can see the women results already?! I mean... I'm watching it live on redbull.tv and right now it's the women race, "live" :/
That's what I thought, but why the "live" badge then? If they wanted to stream the whole race, it would take a whole day so I know it's basically impossible, but they shouldn't say it's live... ;-)
Yeah somethings up cause 20 seconds after the men/women start there run the clock is already at 2:00? you don't see about 1:30 of the beginning of the run?? This whole "live" thing is a bit fishy
Pretty sure it goes off the who's had the best results during the season up to the time that the team is chosen, had this race been before that date he would have made the team for sure, which is unfortunate for him.
Well I tried my best to not see the results but in my endless search to watch this race, I stumbled across them. Anyone else having difficulty with Redbull Channel? When I click on the downhill race it just says "Thanks for watching". Which I would think is very polite if I saw the race.
I tried not to find out too then the commentator on the speed and style said an American won at windham. I was gutted to have found out without watching then gutted again when the top ten feed fucked up. Felt a bit better when it came on with what I thought was the winning run. Then blown the fuck away when Rat boy slayed it. Every race this year has been the best race ever.
That was quite a moment at the end. Gwinn looked decidedly upset. It was as if he'd come to the realisation that, even on his best day, with his best run on his home track, the rat is still faster. Not just by a little bit either; there was a 1.7s rat shaped bite out of gwinns time. It will be interesting to see if he comes out swinging in the next round.
Gwin had two big mistakes right at the top (I was there). So, not his best day by any stretch. But the one who doesn't make mistakes is the one who wins - so fair play to RAT. And you gotta love the guy. I don't think Rat intentionally did the skid - I think he went straight for his people and was amped up.
the replay has the technical problems the original video had. what the hell, they took a day to upload a replay which didnt correct anything from the broadcast? was the replay caught in a storm too?? these guys cant write the thing in a hard drive on location, only via satellite? this is some steps back compared to the past with no internet
Just watched the replay! This season has been the best I can remember: so many different winners, so many potential contenders and the overall is so close going in to the final round. I cannot wait to see the 2014 DH decided at a brand new venue. Ratboy now has the target on his back but with Steve and Greg as mentors, he has some sage hands guiding him through all that pressure.
In front of a home crowd and without the overall to think about I predict Remi and Loic will be willing to throw down something wild, so watch that space.
And just think a few months ago there were some know-it-alls moaning on here about the 'UCI ruining DH'......ppfffff
Very happy for Ratboy, Gwinny had an amazing run I. It was hard to believe anyone was going to beat that run. Ratboy destroyed it. Gatto and the Rat look like siblings after her spill!
This isn't a car race though, the natural terrain changes with each season. Taping might be different in areas too.
Doesn't matter, they were hauling ass today and the road gap to step down is unreal.
Would be interesting if there was a way of making a track that didnt change so much and could be easily fixed so we can actually have timed proof if riders/bikes are getting quicker.
Thats a MASSIVE gap at that level. 1.58s is a bigger gap than any other two consecutive riders who finished without a mech or fall. The difference is enormous.
Red Bull covarage is good but i don't think the freecaster was worse either. Remember Sam;s Hill 2008 val di Sole or Danny's 2010 Champery comes from freecaster and for me that covarage was pretty badass compare to worlds from redbull
Surely with a quali win and a finals win ratboy is in the lead now ?
So stoked for ratty this season. Even if he is only now leading by a few points, he has had by far the best results this year. Two seconds and two firsts. And qualified top 3 at five of the events. If only he hadn't had the mechanical at pmb
I believe Gwin should return to TREK
Words to that effect I believe
Stupid storm in Denver. Oh wait, I thought the broadcast was from New York. Totally lame.
gets f*cked up in the end.
I mean... I'm watching it live on redbull.tv and right now it's the women race, "live" :/
Who's gonna win? Ragot? Carpenter? Atherton?
If they wanted to stream the whole race, it would take a whole day so I know it's basically impossible, but they shouldn't say it's live... ;-)
Josh 1007
Troy 964
Gwin 925
Hill 802
Gee 688
Minnaar 667
Blenki 639
Hart 611
Still all to play for, and very tight from Gee backwards.
It was as if he'd come to the realisation that, even on his best day, with his best run on his home track, the rat is still faster. Not just by a little bit either; there was a 1.7s rat shaped bite out of gwinns time.

That's what he told Peaty anyway.
