I rode a trail in Bend, Oregon a few months back and it was a one way trail system. They had an uphill route and a downhill route both marked incredibly well. You didn't have to worry about having a head on crash with anyone. I don't mind climbing and it was a better experience too going up for the same reasons. Both expert and beginner riders can benefit from a one way trail and i think there should be more of them
Crusty local here. I do realize the numerous benefits of a 1 way trail system, but damn it Ben's was a good time heading downhill. Glad I got it while I could.
It's awesome in MN to have all of our trails managed by groups and well signed. One ways almost exclusively or clearly marked if otherwise. And the standard difficulty rankings as well. People don't think of Minnesota as having a lot of mountain biking but we kinda do.
But wait...? All the vids I watch guys like to blow out and destroy the berms so they can get a good pic / shot. So am I to believe that I'm NOT supposed to lock the rear end up and slide around all the turns so I can throw some good roost??? Boy, I'm just glad that trails magically rebuild and repair themselves out here in So Cal! Biking would sure suck if I had to shovel or wear kneee pads! Long live the So Cal Bro!
Yes, this trail is better on a hardtail and best on a DJ bike. It requires a lot of skill to ride well (skill that most, including me, don't have) and it is difficult to ride it fast without skill; the corners are too tight so most of us have to brake. So it's not my favorite trail, but its ludicrous to say it "sucks."
As more and more people get into the sport we should be building more trails that have a one way designation. All around it's safer for everyone and honestly more fun when you don't have to think about someone out of control coming down head on with you. On the way down you can really open it up without having the thought in the back of your head...what if there's someone around this blind corner. A few spots in Utah have adopted this philosophy but it'd be nice if it became the norm almost everywhere.
Simple matter of responsibility. If you're crushing downhill you're creating the ability to cause a serious accident and the responsibility to prevent it is on your shoulders.
