that moment you realize a 14 year old gets invited to one of the wildest races in the world..... an you are 17 and havent even got to a race outside your local bikepark
i was thinking the same thing nicolasdelcastillo, its so scary how competitive biking has gotten, im 16 and scared of some of the shit 12 year olds are throwing
If i didn't die along the trip by drug lords mad a white man drove through his town I would come back to you being very angry a made another awesome trip lol
you drive down there with a nice car and some expensive dh bikes on the back and see if nobody wants to take advantage of you. I've got some bad experiences only a few hours into the border.
Here is from a travel warning posted a few days ago.... U.S. citizens are encouraged to lower their personal profiles and to avoid displaying indicators of wealth such as expensive or expensive-looking jewelry, watches, or cameras. U.S. citizens are encouraged to maintain awareness of their surroundings and avoid situations in which they may be isolated or stand out as potential victims. travel.state.gov/content/passports/english/alertswarnings/mexico-travel-warning.html
Mexican here living in Mexico City... it's fucking cool and no more dangerous than L.A., NY, or any major city in the world, and we have 4 diferent mountains to ride all year long with thousands of feet of elevation 25 minutes from the city center. Of course there are sketchy places, as there are everywhere else, but don't worry, we are just fine without you.
I could go so many places with that comment but I'll stay on topic...... For one you're Mexican so less likely to be kidnapped for extortion. You're not an easy target and you speak the language. I bet Mexico city isn't the problem it's the routes from southern u.s. states all the way through Mexico to get to Taxco.
It's simple u.s. plates and tourist stand out and are an easy buck even from Mexican police. I've personally had to pay them off as they tried to extort me merely because they could.
My friends who are white go down all the time with out any trouble. It's a lot tamer than what you believe. Going down with a bunch friends soon to race the Ensenada urban. And I'm white as can be
@mau12 ...Taxco is not in Mexico City, in fact it is in estado de Guerrero where the 40 students recently went missing. I don't think you should be telling people not to worry. A little caution is always a good thing! That being said, I am from the USA living here in Mexico, and I haven't had any problems in the past 3 months. Just in case i get robbed.. I always have a shitty cell phone with me, and a fake wallet is a good idea too, because then you don't have to give up your real valuables, and people aren't going to bother you anymore (this was advice i took from a Mexican friend who was robbed one time in her whole life, long ago).
Guerrero is one of the most violent states in Mexico. People get kidnapped by drug cartels, by paramilitary parties and by the very own government (soldiers, navy, police officers). 40+ students disappeared by the police one of those his face was skinned and eyeballs pulled out. The others are presumed to be tortured and burned.
Then why say Arizona boy.. . I've been to many countries across the globe and only had problems and fear for safety a few hours from home in Mexico. Multiple issues over the many times I've visited, that's first hand comparison not Xenophobia. You defend Mexico pretty hard, why aren't you living there? If it's hard to make a living there and they all try to move to America its obviously going to be not the nicest tourist country. Not to mention how brutal they are with killings topping that of actual wars.
LoL you amaze me i actually live there 4 years. me too went around the globe...watch out they are digging a tunnel and coming in your backyard. enought now enjoy your life
Haha ! thats a good way of putting it , I last rode there in about 2008 with 740mm bars and collected a lot of bark , now with my 780's I would have broken fingers
The race so nuts they don't even bother having a women's division -- the organizer said we could only race if 5 of us signed up, and only 2 of us registered. Come on, ladies! Who's in for 2015?!?
This is gonna be so good... and for all you guys worrying about the state of affairs in Mexico, just head down to central and southern Mexico and get a feel of it for yourself - you'll love it!
There is a big air/best trick comp over the final two massive jumps just after the race. Huge crowd turnout and good money, so that's why you see some freeride names. Last year Bizet, McGarry, Gully and a few others all threw down some big tricks.
