From now on, when I have a great day in the backcountry, one that was really off the charts good fun, good friends, good adventure, and someone asks me how the day was, I'm gonna say "oh, man- it was a total Tippie!"
He used to race Giant Slalom and Boardercross World Cups in the 90's. I've seen him bombing around in the winter plenty of times, and he still shreds hard.
You can tell he's highly competent on a snowboard -- he's not like the snowboarding masses, skidding their tails through turns. He knows what he's doing.
Tippie is awesome. Great representative of whatever sport/activity he does. If you can't get excited by the good vibes that radiate from him, you're doing it wrong. Keep it up!
Rode with him a few years back when I did a Schley camp at Whistler. He loves to ride, and is soooooo smooth. This was near Crankworx time and he was being invited to hang out with many of the other big names of the sport (it was Richie Schley's birthday), and his response was, 'I don't know, the lifts will still be open, I might come by after that'. And this after spending 3 days riding with paying clients. Would welcome the opportunity to ride with him again at any time.
Aside from driving the Toyota my recreational life is nearly identical to Tippie's? Awesome sauce. Of course my personality is 0.000001% of the man, the myth, the legend Brett "Mr Race Face" Tippie so I don't expect any videos like this to ever be made.
Ok. So you drive your big 4x4 to the top and ride your bike down and drink beer with friends. What about the pickup? Does BC have some kind of car retrieval service that drives the cars back from the mountain? Seen this done many times and it puzzles me.
lol... this is the only rider on PB that I've never heard anyone EVER say a bad word about. Gotta feel all that love. Nice job Tippie. I can't wait for you to sign something random for me when I see you at Crankworx in Whistler this year. SO CLOSE!
Got the chance to meet him in Whistler back in 2012 and it made my trip! Super cool guy! I still have a poster of him in my garage when he used to ride for Specialized. Tippie is the man!!!
Maybe some back-country somewhere, but nothing really accessible without work/skill/equipment. Closest thing would be on the glacier on Blackcomb (Whistler) but I think they close near the end of July. Best bet for a ski/bike day is spring in Whistler, lower mainland, okanagan or kamloops...
Especially not this year. I was a record poor winter so the snowpack through the coastal range is really low or completely non existent. Whistler Blackcomb will close to the public for skiing probably mid-July. As plyawn said, spring is the best bet. Tippie's video was probably shot in mid-April judging by the snowmobile accessed powder turns he was getting. It's pretty normal to have great snowboard days on Whistler in March and April then follow it up with riding in Pemberton or Squamish.
I had one of the best snowboard days of the year on April 14th and followed it up with a 2 hr muddy trail ride.
The glacier is open for limited park riding in Whistler currently and the bike park is open to the peak but the glacier shuts in July. You might be able to get some turns in in the rockies with the help of a heli or skidoo in August I guess - Jumbo glacier perhaps.
y'know, I appreciate where I am in my life and everything that has happened to lead me to where I am today, but whenever I watch some videos like this I sure do wish I had made a couple different decisions along the way.
Compared to Thomas Vanderham's, Tippie's riding looks stiff and somehow awkward in that part of the video. Tippie is a good rider, but everything is relative I guess.
