MANON CARPENTER

Age: 22
Nationality: Great Britain
2014 rank: 1st
Experience: Five Years in Elite
Current Team: Madison Saracen

2014 was all sunshine, lollypops and rainbows for Manon Carpenter. With three gold medals in the World Cup rounds that helped land her first in the overall, the real cherry on top was the World Championship title. Manon seems to quite fancy her rainbow stripes, and doesn't look set to hand them over to her competitors without a fight. Let's get ready to rumble!

PB: 1: Where and how have you been spending your off-season?
bigquotes I've been spending my off season mainly in South Wales, with a couple of camps with the team in Spain and Portugal. - Manon

PB: 2. What was the highlight of your 2014 season and why was it so significant to you?
bigquotes Pretty obvious one for me, winning World Champs in Norway at the end of the season. I'd just won the Overall in Meribel and had just about come down in time to focus on World Champs and it all went crazy again. It was more than I could have hoped for and I was high on excitement for a long time afterwards! - Manon

PB: 3. Was there a moment or period you considered to be your season ‘low’ and for what reason?
bigquotes Getting a flat tyre at Fort William was really rubbish. I didn't have an issue all weekend then got unlucky in race run. I felt so ready for that race! - Manon

PB: 4. Are there changes you are looking to make to your approach mentally or physically for 2015?
bigquotes Mostly same thing as usual, just stepped up again. I got my head into a good place in Norway so I'd like to be able to do that more often, but everything has worked so far so more of the same! - Manon

Manon Carpenter diving into the main rock garden holding her line right through the belly of the beast.

PB: 5. How have you split your time between ‘on’ and ‘off’ the big bike training?
bigquotes The first few months of training are spent more on the 'training' side of things working on physical weaknesses, and spending time on different bikes then as the season comes round I'll spend a lot more time on the Downhill bike getting up to speed. - Manon

Winner

PB: 6. When inspiration has run low lately, to whom or what have you turned to kick your motivation levels up a gear?
bigquotes January always gets a bit depressing when the season feels ages away and the weather at home is grim. We headed out to Europe on a training camp to escape the worst of it and get some sun. - Manon

Carpenter hauling into the fastest berm on the track. After a phenomenal season we will soon get to see Manon s motivation level to keep a good thing going and become World Champion.

PB: 7. What bit of kit are you looking forward to using most at the races?
bigquotes Our new Madison Clothing kit is looking pretty nice this year! - Manon

PB: 8. Which rider do you see as the biggest threat to the 2015 title?
bigquotes You can never write Rachel off and I'm sure she'll be hungry again after last year, but you never know who will have made what improvements over winter so hopefully we'll have another year of close racing between all the women. - Manon

PB: 9. Which race or single moment of the coming season are you most excited for?
bigquotes Can't choose between Fort William and World Champs! I really hope I get a good race in Scotland this year, and I love the track at Andorra. - Manon

Rachel Atherton s shadow would be how many characterized Manon Carpenter the past few seasons but I think it s safe to say that she s come into her own during 2014. Fort William 2014.

PB:10. Complete the sentence: ‘I won’t be racing a single World Cup without....'

bigquotes My Rainbow stripes! - Manon

BTW PB, next time you could probably change question #1 to: "Where do you live when you're not racing?" ... I bet you'll find the answers to be pretty much synonymous.

It'll he hard for her to have two seasons in a row as good as last year, but I'm willing to bet she will give it a good go. Such a great racer and competitor. Good luck manon

Good to see some honest answers, esp q8, most others were trying really hard to avoid naming their competitors!? Lets have some great racing today Smile

The worst case of nationalities getting mixed up is for the British Tennis player Andy Murray, if he is winning he's either British or somehow English, if he is losing well, that's because he's from Scotland!

The weather is actually O.K. over here too :F
