Reality Redesigned: The GAUNTLET Ep4: Derailleur Guide
It is approximate prices as to what it would cost to bring that product to life. How much more time needs to spent on the designing by a professional so that it could be a working prototype, possibly getting is rapid printed/prototyped, what the materials would be to make the first version of it and what the machining/assembly costs would be.

Reality Redesigned: The GAUNTLET Ep2: Fork Sleeve
I agree with you foshizz, it's looking at an issue from a different angle which you have to give props to the designer for. Coming up with a new idea is not easy and it's with collaberation with others that ideas are made better or determined not to work. From an idea standpoint, it sounds like the judges like it but they don't necessarily have the perspective of a rider - both perspectives are important in innovation. I am curious to see which other designs are going to be in this top 9.

Reality Redesigned: The GAUNTLET Ep1: HM-12
Good thoughts atrokz. Also, the testing for this part would be pretty high because it's a brake part in general, and also because it takes over ALL the braking, leaving the rider with no alternate option. The guys from Straitline Components are machinists though, they have lots of experience in the industry. And Josh Coaplen from Cane Creek ( a judge for the suspension category ) is an engineer, couldn't tell you what area he specialize in but pretty sure he is an engineer.

People's Choice Award:The Final Round!
Hey crohnsy, This contest started back in the fall already, it's been going for a while. This is the People's Choice section of it and in a couple weeks the judging videos start coming out for the Top 9. To answer your questions, the designs and the intellectual property of all submissions stay with the person who submitted the design. It is up to them if they want to pursue developing their ideas further and to possibly work with the companies that Edge Factor is bringing them in contact with. Pretty sure all questions can find their answers at:

JohnDeceIn, you're right, there's no way they can convince you that they are not going to do that. So you think of your awesome ideas, let them sit on your computer or used napkin while the rest of us take this opportunity to meet and work with some of the biggest companies in the industry. Good luck with that.

Those ideas raise some good points jackclark and brings home the reason (in my opinion) for this whole thing. Get some fresh eyes and minds on this area to come up with something new. Thanks for your input!
