You remember your first ride on a bike? We all do - the sense of freedom, the thrill. We want to share our passion for bicycles with kids who might not ordinarily get that chance. In 2007 Pinkbike launched Share the Ride, an initiative which raised funds to get disadvantaged children around the world on bicycles. After a long hiatus we’re back and we’ve got big goals to reach. Our aim is to raise $25,000 and reinvest that money into purchasing and distributing bikes to kids in need this Holiday Season.

Share the Ride 2014
We need you guys, the worlds largest group of die-hard mountain bikers to get on board and donate! The best part is that you get to benefit too. Our partners have donated almost $20, 000 worth of prizes for you to win. Every $5 you donate will count towards an entry into our giveaways.

Here's what you could win:

How it works
-For every $5 donated between Nov 7th, 2013 & Midnight of December 16th, you will earn one chance to win the Trek Remedy 9.7 bike and other listed prizes. So if you donate $25 that is 5 chances at a bunch of prizes.
-The winners will be selected from a spreadsheet using random.org.
-The winners will be notified by e-mail and asked a mountain bike related knowledge question.
-We will ship worldwide ... Customs fees and other applicable taxes will be the winner's responsibilities.

Where will your money go?
- $50 is enough to buy one child a new bike and a helmet.
- We are working with community centers, schools, youth and family service programs and established charities to identify children from low income families who will benefit from this gift.
- We will be working in locations across Canada and the USA and with enough donations, world wide.
- We aim to ensure that the children receiving these gifts are educated on basic bicycle safety and maintenance.

I donated! I remember getting a bike for Christmas when I was 6 (and I'm 42 now!) and I've never forgotten that feeling of joy, laying my eyes on that bike for the first time. It was blue and white, second hand, and I loved it instantly. Well done Brett, Pinkbike, Connor and everyone else involved in this project. Warms my heart.

I know it's probably a stupid question, but is it only open for certain continents or countries such as North America or just the USA and Canada? Or can people from the UK and elsewhere donate and enter? As I'm wanting to donate, but unsure on if I can or not? Smile Winning would just be a bonus Smile
  • 2 0
Yes you certainly can donate from Australia and the UK. Thanks for getting on board!

Hi guys I'm not horrible so don't think bad of me for not giving money , it's just I already do a similar sort of thing in and around my local streets. I don't go out and buy a kid a bike , round my end they would probs get it nicked or got sell it straight away , but I do fix or build the kids bikes free of charge , I have loads of spares knocking about and don't mind giving them to a kid in need. It's hard for people with children now days to find the time to fix the little ones puncture or stop the chain falling off and as we all know the bigger the problem the bigger the price can be , that's where I step in !!! Free of charge I fix the kids punctures , lose cranks , dodgy brakes messed up gears and all sorts you do get the cheeky ones but it's all part of the fun. So I do apologise for not giving but I do give in my own little way , my wife tells me to charge all the time but I just can't the look of joy on there face when I say I can fix it is enough for me !!!

Donation made! I hope pinkbikers will donate enought money to give bikes to kids outside of Canada and US - there are places on Earth where kids need bikes more than in North America.
  • 6 0
Just donated - $50 less beer money is totally worth it!
  • 3 0
For less the amount most of is would spend on a single tire, a kid gets the opportunity to ride a bike....easy decision there. Serious props to PB for organizing such a noble cause!

Im poor but ill donate as much i can...Its really sad to think so many children won´t have a christmas, birthdays or worst, going sleep with a empty stomach.... A bike is a symbol of hope and goodness, seing this action and so many fellow riders helping makes my heart warm and happy to know theres still so many people that cares for others.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL PINKBIKE COMUNITY, YOU ARE THE BEST!

In for $50, i remember me and my sisters all getting bikes on Christmas morning. And here now at 23 years old its the greatest passion in my life! Hope this collects way over goal so as many children as possible can experience the endless joys a simple bicycle can bring! Also agree the progress bar should be on the front page.

Cool! Just did $50 for now. This is a great campaign. I much rather donate to this message knowing some young one is going to get a bike to ride. I hated not having a bike as a kid. I am going to try to donate more before its up.
It's also hard sharing this link with others too, the more people I send it too, the worse my chances are of winning....

Hey, my company does donation matching but it's only if the recipient is a registered charity. I don't see any info regarding a registration number so someone please point me to it if there is one that I've missed. If not, I'll still make the case with them anyways as the goals meet the company matching criteria.

 Can you donate bikes?????
  • 1 0
My first bike was my birthday present from my parents and grandparents. I remember going to look at it in a bike shop and instantly falling in love. We left the bike shop empty handed as far as I was concerned but my dad had made the decision that day. I was woken up especially early one July morning and it was waiting for me in the kitchen. I rode up and down the path, crashing on almost every run but somehow, the feeling of riding still filled me with joy and cycling was engraved into my heart.
  • 1 0
 Awesome!!!!

Does anyone know if this qualifies as a registered charity that can issue a receipt?
I'm not being petty here, as I will donate personally for sure, but if they issue tax receipts, I can also donate through my company. I really want to help this cause.
  • 1 0
Currently we are operating as a Not for Profit so we unfortunately do not qualify to issue tax receipts. Thanks for your personal donation though!
  • 1 0
If you receive a receipt with payment from your business you can still write it off as promotional.

Great program! My wife and I have donated bikes to Toys For Tots in years past. So glad to see PinkBike on board with such a rad charity event. My challenge to all is to donate $50 for every bike you own, or $50 for every $1000 you spent on you own bike. Looks like I owe $300. Be good and give this year!

Hi, could someone please tell me how it works with the perks? Because it says i quote "Just for the campaigner to send your perk to you!"

Do they send you like a certificate saying your name and you donated? Because that would be cool!
Thanks for answering!
  • 1 0
And also, what is the perk for the $25 contribution, as i was considering donating, and then depending if you get like a little certificate give that as a Christmas present saying they (the person im giving it too) donated...
  • 5 0

I can't choose between Santa and Tippie...

Would be great if they make some videos or photos of kids receiving the bikes. I would rather have that then the prize Smile
  • 2 3
Don't get me wrong, it's awesome to have a chance to win such cool prizes. But wouldn't it actaully be better to use that prize money/value to get more bikes for the children instead and then just have some symbolic prizes that are not to expensive?

Nevertheless it's a great initative and I hope there will be alot of money raised Smile
  • 1 0
Please Read "Donated By Sponsors." The expense of the prizes doesn't even register really on the overall bank balance of the companies involved. So with that in mind, I'm all for it! Also, the incentive of winning expensive stuff draws ion people who otherwise wouldn't have donated if there were only "symbolic prizes." Bike prize pool=bigger donations
  • 2 0
Maybe I made that comment without much thought. Of course it's great that companies get involved and sponsor something like this. Especially if people that hesitate at first go for it and donate. And you're completly right about the bank balance. I blame the late hour and a tired head when I made the comment Wink

It wasn't my intent to sound negative. Big prizes is always nice Smile

i so wish i could donate more than $10 but thats all i can im broke
  • 3 0
Hey man, a donation is a donation. No matter how small, all it takes is 5 people to donate 10 bucks and that's a new bike for someone. Every little bit counts! Cheers!
