The Story of Bell Helmets and Joy Ride

Last year, Bell Helmets Executive Vice President, Jessica Klodnicki had no other ladies to mountain bike with. She was a new rider, who had just taken a skills clinic, and was looking for some friends to hit the trails with. By chance, she ran into one of her fellow clinic attendees after yet another solo ride on the trails, the two clicked and began riding together. Soon there were three women, followed by twelve and within three months, the group had grown to seventy. Jessica made the monthly ride official and dubbed the event "Girls Rock" and it grew to host hundreds of women each month.

Jessica and Bell have created a program called Joy Ride to motivate others to do the same, and are offering five women from five different cities around the USA the opportunity to start their own women's ride group with their assistance, and are taking applications now. The winners will be flown to Santa Cruz for an induction and training and will receive funding to make their group rides a reality. Bell have also just released a new women's specific Joy Ride helmet line to celebrate the initiative.

She was a new rider who had just taken a skills clinic and when she one day saw another girl from the clinic at the local trail zone she grabbed her and they started riding together. What started out as two girls riding together grew to three then to 12 up to 70 in three months nad became an official monthly ride called Girls Rock . Jessica and Bell want to offer Five women from Five different cities around the USA to start their own women s ride group initiative and will fund and train the right candidates for the job. They re calling the program JOy Ride and they ve just release a new women s specific helmet line to coincide with the event.
The Joyride line is based on smaller sizing, and a specific color palette. The Super 2R, Super and Rush will be a part of the collection, and will be available with or without MIPS.

Troy Lee Designs Updates

Speeda is dead. In its place is Evil .
Let's re-visit what was potentially the most talked about short in women's mountain biking for 2015. The Troy Lee Designs Skyline in "Speeda" colorway. Despite selling very well, in fact Troy Lee Designs doubled their overall women's clothing sales last year, the "Speeda" Skyline short is dead. In the Speeda's place we now have "Evil". Discuss.

The Skyline will come with waist adjusters this year.
On a side note, the Skyline will come with waist adjusters this year, and the Skyline jersey has had a bit of a re-design and will be made with a much lighter material that doesn't have that scratchy feeling of years past. The neckline V has been slimmed out and the short should contour to the body more now as well.

G-Form Protection

G-Form got their start when Daniel Wyner, an inventor and tinkerer, began re-purposing gel hospital bed lining for shoe and saddle products. Wyner has a long history with working with advanced composite materials, and has expanded and developed their technology over the years to include impact protection pieces for application in various action sports, from snowboarding to Hollywood stunts. For the first time this year, women will have three mountain bike specific protection options: a compression shirt, and two compression shorts.

G-Form this year have just released a women s specific upper body compression shirt as well as two different compression short models.
The Pro X Women's Short sleeve shirt features, rib, shoulder, breastbone and clavicle protection. G-Form's RPT material hardens on impact, it needs to be sandwiched between two hard surfaces, like your bones and the ground for it to work. The Pro-X Knee-Shin and Elbow guards are not gender specific, but they do come in youth sizing if you find regular sized products too big.

The shorts come with hip tailbone and side thight protection in an SPF 50 moisture wicking fabric.

Little bit of trivia. I watched one if those how-it's-made shows on the subject of mannequins, and they use a human model as the basis of some of those mannequins, especially the ones they use for high-end clothing or underwear. So, there is a chick out there with that body.

 Google 'DS dolls'. You're welcome.

That guy's thinkin', "Should I say Hi? What should I say?" Pulse racing, palms sweaty... haha been there. I met Aaron Gwin at Interbike in 2011 right after Danny won the World Champs and was too star struck to say anything other than a simple congratulations. Great guy, he was nice, I wish I could have a do over. So much I wanted to say!

something like "4 yrs from now, don't give up when your chain broke at the start gate"
  • 15 0
 Moms spaghetti...
  • 5 0
Same feeling when I first saw Greg Minnaar back in 2010 in Fort William. Man he has such a strong quality of champion that I was too stoked to say anything, even ask for an autograph or a photo.
  • 5 0
Damnit Alex you beat me. The second I read pulse racing I was like "knees weak, arms heavy, mom's spaghetti" hahahaha
  • 10 1
so she rode 2200 miles to get to the race, which is another 2700 miles, can the author verify??

Yeah, Lael Wilcox is a legit bad ass. Look at gypsybytrade.wordpress.com - it's her boyfriend's blog and follows her progress both times.

After accomplishing what she has, Lael Wilcox still has to buy her own bike?
  • 4 0
I believe she was at the show in search of sponsors.

Good to see more flat pedal previews at Interbike. Media can't seem to get enough of new pedals

So glad they show cased next years glove colors. All these soft colored bikes, bright colors and woman's mtb accessorize is making the industry look a little chauvinistic. Unless I'm wrong.. Are woman wanting to accessorize also? Maybe cliche exists for a reason.
  • 1 0
Wrong! A chauvinistic bike industry would only market, make and display on live mannequins bikini bottoms with pasties as jerseys, there is alot more that is NOT being done to provoke such naive histeria as saying the bike industry is sexist or chauvinistic. Just be happy their products cover most of the female body.
  • 2 1
Nah, you couldn't be more wrong. Look at the men's Santa cruze bikes compared to the same Juliana bike. Santa Cruz comes in way more "chauvinistic" colors as you say.......... lol I guess people find issues with anything though.
  • 1 0
I stand corrected then. Girls like to shop for bling.
  • 2 2
Girls dont know what the hell they want, thats why its a marketers nightmare to try and please them. Because they are either being accused of being sexist or having no feminine sense of design. Girls just need to concentrate on riding better then looking better.

Troy Lee employ the T-1000 as their manikin.
