Last year, Pinkbike and Trailforks created the Share the Ride Foundation in order to raise funds to buy disadvantaged children around the world brand new bicycles. We aimed to raise $25,000 in contributions, but with your kind help we raised $41,426!

We visited seven locations and gave deserving children all over the world new bicycles, helmets and locks. Those kids can now ride to school, bomb around on their street and of course, learn how to wheelie.

Our goal this year is to raise $30,000 and continue to change the lives of children and youth around the globe by introducing them to the joy of riding a bicycle.

These kids were given the opportunity to show that they could work harder in order to receive one of the bikes to be given away and rose to the occasion. They now have the means to aid with an active lifestyle and can help build their confidence. They are able to participate in the Healthy Active School Travel program that is being promoted in the Cairns region. Hope to see these kids safely riding their fantastic new Trek bikes.

How it works
-For every $5 donated between Nov 4th, 2014 and Midnight of December 12th, you will earn one chance to win the Giant Reign 1 27.5 bike and other listed prizes. So if you donate $25 that is 5 chances at a bunch of prizes.
-The winners will be selected from a spreadsheet using random selection.
-The winners will be notified by e-mail and asked a mountain bike related knowledge question.
-We will ship worldwide ... Customs fees and other applicable taxes will be the winner's responsibilities.

Where will your money go?
- $150 is enough to buy one child a new bike and a helmet.
- We are working with community centers, schools, youth and family service programs and other established charities and foundations to identify children from low income families who will benefit from this gift.
- We are world wide.
- We aim to ensure that the children receiving these gifts are educated on basic bicycle safety and maintenance.

In the UK there are lots of charities that take bikes and bike parts to clean, re-build and give to worthy causes:

www.re-cycle.org

www.birminghambikefoundry.org/what-we-do.html

I'm sure that there'll be one in Belgium somewhere.

This is a great cause. Like sandrida, many of us probably have old parts and partial bikes lying in the garage and basement.Community bike shops take that stuff and get it in the hands of people who really need it. Many of these recycled bikes are used in Earn-a-Bike and Trips For Kids programs, while others become valuable transportation, often helping support a whole family. Now is the time to donate. Find out more about nonprofit community bike shops, including locations here: www.bikecollectives.org/wiki/index.php?title=Community_Bicycle_Organizations

ok thanks for the replies. we have stores here called i dont know. for leaving things that people dont use anymore. but those stores are accesible for everyone. also rich people. i will probably end up selling the bike,, but for sure i will donate. and if i win a thing you can automatically return this to share the ride. ive been dumb in life thats why i will not be able to donate a lot. but ill do my best and for this be a reminder that i will never need to be doing dumb again or atleast in that way, i already hope i will win a ticket.

Great cause and great pics! Any details on what was given last year? What bikes + helmets were bought (were they provided at cost by the industry?), and what criteria you were looking for when choosing recipients?

Thanks!

Great cause. At the previous school my wife taught at, some anonymous benefactor left a fund whereby every year, all the kids in the 4th grade are given new bicycles. I hope I'm fortunate enough in life to be able to the same.

This is why I love PB! They could just ask for donations, but no, they go one step further and offer up great prizes too. More than happy to donate regardless. Thanks PB!

l just donated. l challenge riders in bellingham washington to donate as well!
  • 4 0
Already approaching 2500 bucks!!!! We are awesome.
  • 4 0
 Do you provide tax receipts?
  • 2 1
Unfortunately we are are a registered foundation as opposed to a registered charity and are unable to issue a tax reciept.
  • 1 1
It's technically not a donation since there are "chances to win" a prize. It's actually a raffle, but for a darn good cause!!
  • 2 0
Shoot, if I win I almost don't want the prizes. Just knowing that I could help out such a great cause is a reward in and of it's self.
  • 2 0
Such an awesome idea, I hope this continues to grow....and I may try to copy it for my community.

A couple days ago there was an article against buying kids cheap bikes...
  • 8 0
that trek doesn't look like a "cheap bike" to me
  • 3 1
with the exception of that trek, the bikes look like theyre from walmart... just saying, a cheep bike is still better than no bike
  • 2 0
We work closely within the industry to get the best bikes we can in a given area. All the bikes we've given out thus far have been from Trek, Norco, Giant, Diamondback, Haro, Dartmoor, Specialized, Agang and Author.
  • 1 2
and you buy them for 150$ with a helmet?
  • 3 0
 That's the average.
  • 3 0
Im guessing the manufacturers are also giving a price break, ya know, cause its a charity.
