Everything counts in Whistler. This coming weekend the 2016 FMB Diamond Series will come to an end during the sixth edition of Red Bull Joyride at Crankworx Whistler. The biggest slopestyle contest of the year is the ultimate highlight for every athlete and Red Bull Joyride will be held on Sunday – the “grand finale” of the Crankworx Series. Red Bull TV will be bringing you LIVE all the sick action by the world’s best slopestyle athletes on August 21st from 10:30am PDT / 1:30pm EDT / 7.30pm CEST.

The Favourites
Brandon Semenuk is the defending champion after winning his fourth title in Whistler last year. The Canadian will most certainly be looking to extend his win total on his home turf at Red Bull Joyride this time around as well. Semenuk has already shown his strength while winning the first Crankworx event of the year in Rotorua, the competition however is stronger than ever. Nicholi Rogatkin is only a couple of runs away from his first ever FMB World Champion Title and surely young Swede Max Fredriksson will be bringing his “A game” in order to make one last push for the title. Semenuk’s fellow Canadian Brett Rheeder is also still in the mix and will surely hope to find a way to celebrate the end of the season in the best way possible – with a win at Crankworx Whistler. Reigning FMB World Champion Thomas Genon from Belgium has an outside chance of defending his title, but should not to be underestimated as he had his breakthrough moment at Red Bull Joyride in 2012. However, maybe one of the young guns such as Emil Johansson (SWE) may be able to surprise and secure a position on the podium.

The Course
Fans will discover a number of new features and changes to the 2016 Red Bull Joyride course, while keeping some of the key elements in tact because as the old saying goes, ‘don’t fix it if it ain’t broken’. Overall, the course will follow the same alignment through the Whistler bike park, allowing lots of flow and minimal braking, a layout that has received praise from athletes for four years running. Now, for the fun stuff: with an all new start section that will put athletes right into the action out of the gate, the course now totals 650 meters in length with all features reworked from previous years giving them a solid size upgrade with the largest jump weighing in at roughly 15 ft. Of the most technical features this year will be the fully rebuilt ‘Joyride Cabin’ that not only finds itself at a new spot on the course, but got an overhaul which now includes a rooftop ‘whale tail’ as opposed to the classic flat-drop in previous years. Last but certainly not least is the all new show stopping final feature, a massive 30ft. high step up that is the largest in the event’s history.
