The one and only Claudio Caluori is back and in full flow as he takes us down the glorious Pietermaritzburg course for Round 1 of the UCI DH World Cup in South Africa. Check out Claudio’s thoughts on the modified downhill course at Pietermaritzburg as we get sight of what the riders can come to expect when they take to the course over the next few days.

 Somehow this week I didn't feel the world cup fever yet with all the world cup news (new gear, who is racing going 650b, etc). I thought something was missing keeping me from being excited. Then I realized! Claudio's track preview wasn't here yet! Now here it is! Got me all excited again!

 Just because you have to pedal a bit doesn't mean it's not "full DH". If we start thinking like that, we could say that Leogang or even Fort Bill aren't "full DH". As Steve Smith said: "we can't really call ourselves athletes if we're not pedaling."

 that's not what i meant. it's not pedalling that makes this track a bit less DH-ish. It's less steep and has less technical sections than, for example, Andorra or Val Di Sole, those of course are on the opposite side under the point of view of the features. That doesn't mean that PMB is not worth the DH World cup or whatever, just that here the focus is definitively on speed and air, and less on the rough stuff. I'm more than sure that i will enjoy the race (i will enjoy ALL the races) i love DH and i'm in withdrawal syndrome right now. But it's a fact that PMB is not as tachnical as some of the others / older tracks are

 If worldcup riders are faster on none downhill bikes, its not a worthy downhill track for a worldcup. Its definitely a downhill track but worldcup worthy in my opinion no. Looks so fun though.
