love these comparison videos, amazing to see just how fast sam enters the wood sections and the inside line he takes on the open off camber corner. Unreal race, great coverage and stoked to see ratboy take the overall. Glad sam is back on the pace. Already cant wait til next season
I love these videos too. I wish they had little pressure sensors on their brake levers that showed a scale on the screen so we could see just how little they touch their brakes.
...and a sensor that shows when the tires actually are in contact with the ground. It feels like they are mostly flying/skimming along punctuated by moments of grounded riding. Art of Flight over rocks and roots.
Love these splits, and just watching their POV race runs in general. The craziest thing is, Sam wasn't the fastest at any of the 3 sectors. He was just the most consistent top to bottom. Gee was actually fastest after the first 2 splits, but had a slower last section on the open slope. Would be sick to see Gee's helmet cam (if he had one rolling?)...
It's not about the bike manufacturer or wheel size (ok maybe a couple percent), but I think this shows the rider/line choice are the MUCH more important factor! Awesome comparison...! Wish we got to see more of these!
yeah true that, not gonna deny that 650b is faster but give sam's bike to me and i'll crash on every tricky line he took- his skills are what made him so good, not big wheels
I think it would be cool if red bull somehow managed to stream footage from the gopros to their coverage of the race through the parts that cameras can't capture.
In Mammoth they were livestreaming from Kyle Strait's gopro for the roll-in, but he had to wear a massive fanny pack with the battery and wireless transmitter and what not, I think we still need a few more years before that becomes race-applicable
why is Hill so damn good at cornering in off-camber grass ?! Atherton had the nummber 1 at both splits, but lost over a second in nearly just two corners....!
When hill was down 0.23 or whatever at the last split I knew he was gonna make it up on the open turns. Thought val di sol '08. He just holds a line like a boss. They all shred though.
He's always been good at off camber stuff. Watch Earthed 4, it's absolutely insane to see what he does of the Schladming bottom section: where riders with clips were taking it steady and putting a foot out, he was feet up ripping the tightest lines with tons of roost behind him
Crazy to see all the sections Loic was faster in. I recon if you took all the best sections from every rider into one race run, the winning time would be maybe 5 seconds quicker than Sam's.
