Following the success of our GoPro footage of race day runs from Pietermaritzburg, we return with some POV nuggets from Cairns with Danny Hart, Loïc Bruni and Josh Bryceland all featuring.
Former World Champion Danny Hart is first up. Danny was fancied to do well on the Cairns track after the rain of the previous two days created the muddy conditions underneath that the Brit always seems to excel on. Danny was in full flow and on for a good time before a mistake halfway down stopped him in his tracks and put pay to any ambitions of a win or podium. He eventually placed 21st.
Yah, either that GoPro is behind it or it might have something to do with Red Bull having the broadcast contract for it? That way any of the actual race footage would be available to them. that might not stack up when it comes to the photogs but then they would not have a contract to the UCI either. I thought the same about the Red Bull/Rockstar thing when I noticed it on the visor. Can't imagine that Rockstar are bothered, the name is there and they didn't have to stick in any other cash for it.
I cued up Danny and Ratboy's POV footage side by side. Danny was right up with ratboy until his crash. Then he seemed to slow down a bit afterward. Danny could have easily been on the podium. But I guess that was the name of the game in Cairns -stay on your bike!
Indeed he was slower than Ratboy after the crash, but crashes in the wet like that do knock your confidence on the slippy bits! He was really unlucky to hit that massive root, tbh Danny rarely comes off in the wet, he usually rules in these conditions!
I hear ya. That was kind of my point. Had he not crashed he would have been right up there. Danny even looked pretty fast through the pedal section. Rob Warner was poking fun at him being "out of shape" but I don't really think that was the case here.
Compared to Ratboys run, Danny's head Bobs about loads more, Josh just seems to keep himself more composed. I think it's just down to fitness and strength. I do sort of agree with Warner, ratboy looks like he has been seriously working out, whereas Danny's skills usually balance it out for him.
Impressive! It's so easy to forget sometimes that these guys are 100% in the red once the get out of the start house. Makes my lungs hurt just from watching and listening. Much respect to all of the worldcup guys and gals. Going all-out and totally emptying the tank within 3-4 minutes and still making it to the bottom in one piece is just absolutely crazy!
Don't hate on red bull it is really nice from them to do the broadcast. Does Monster or Rockstar do so? No so be thankful that they do it for free. For sure it could je better but it is better than nothing and maybe they improve next year.
Yeah but the number of camera's seem limited, no camera on the whoops or the bridge to 360 degree turn or other cool sections, it's a shame, still the coverage Red Bull offer is great but would be nice to see it on mainstream tv also.
You have to bear in mind that it was on a really steep hill side in a rainforest, a fairly challenging location for filming a live feed I would imagine.
Wow the crowd at the end of his run were like WTF who is this guy? Danny is not going to podium with runs like that on the WC circuit. Marcello G has more talent than Danny IMO. Where the heck is Danny's psycho dad? Lol.
well when i have asked at events iv'e been told it's down to the UCI that implemented this rule? sorry if i was misinformed. but on another note British Cycling org is a joke
Don't get your panties in a bunch!! Seemed faster than Ratboy's head cam,Upon further inspection it appears not. Perhaps on account of different cameras...? . So chill out.. My sincerest apologies to you forum dwellers.
PS.. Ironic Ratboy looks like a rat and Hart looks like a mouse? Just saying.

"if he would have went faster, he would have done better"
No crap. That's what every race in the history of racing is all about.
