We all know that the Mountain bike world is full of contests – DH, XC, Super D, Enduro and any number of cool sounding abbreviations we’ve yet to create – and what all these slivers of the MTB world share is the love of a good trail.
Anyone whose hands are calloused from working with a McLeod or a Pulaski understands the counterintuitive appeal of building trail. On paper, building trail is an utterly strange algorithm: the net time expended on building a particular section will almost certainly never equal the actual collective time that tires spend passing over that exact section of trail
(Time x length of trail ≠ Total Tire Time)
And yet we build.
And take satisfaction in the result.
And as Human’s are prone to do – we constantly try to one up our previous work.
Which by process of evolution leads us to Red Bull Trail Crew.
So much of what the Austrian Energy Drink giant typically does is obviously very high profile - which is what made Red Bull Trail crew such an intriguing contrast.
Dan Mavre summed it up nicely “The trail builders in Tremblant are already super motivated, and the trail system here has progressed by leaps and bounds over the past couple of years – so we wanted to encourage that progression with a little friendly competition on a section of trail that will hopefully raise the level of the local riders and open people’s eyes here to what’s possible”
The formula was simple – a low key gathering of different trail crews from the Laurentian region of Quebec – each given a different section of geography, along a previously underdeveloped flank of hillside in Mont Tremblant; each tasked with making that section of trail as awesome as possible in a 72 hour period (while having as much fun along the way as the combination of chain saw’s and six packs will allow)
Team Cybercycle was made up Sean Viau, Emiliano Garriz, Erik Waissy and the hardest working, ex-freeskier turned amazing rider that I have run across Philippe Poirier.
In mortal hand to hand trail building combat against them – were their cross town arch rivals Team Kenny – made up of Michel Nicolas Kennedy, Cedric Leclair, Jean-Sébastien Coté and David Duguay.
Who won?
Watch the video to find out (but its safe to say that anyone who visits the Mt Tremblant area this year for a trail ride is winning.)

The trail should be on the trail map next summer.
You can put your bike up or pedal your way up thru the trail Jazz or Deer Mountain.
The trail is also on Strava, not that you want to race down, I put it there more for people to find it.
