First Look: 2014 Prototype Lapierre Spicy Team 27.5 Enduro Racer

by Richard Cunningham
The first round of the Enduro World Series at Punta Ala offers a teaser of what to expect from Lapierre. Nico Vouilloz will be racing his proto ‘Spicy Team 27.5’ for the first time there. A sweet looking machine spec’ed with an ‘e.i’ electronically controlled RockShox Monarch Relay shock, a RockShock Black Box 160-millimeter fork, a SRAM XX1 one-by drivetrain, and with SRAM’s newly released 27.5-inch wheels. Lapierre says we will hear a lot more about the new mid-size-wheel Spicy when they release their 2014 lineup this Summer.

Nico Vouilloz s prototype Spicy Team 275

Two views of the Spicy Team 275 enduro racer that Nico will be campaigning this season. We expect to see a number of high-profile competitors on 650B this year.

Lapierre says that Nico Vouilloz is impatient to attack the Enduro World Series, along with Team Lapierre Gravity Republic riders Loic Bruni, Sam Blenkinsop and Emmeline Ragot, who are taking part in the EWS as a preparation for the coming DH season. And to watch for Nico’s new race kit, specially produced for him by Troy Lee Designs.

This is old news, was on vitalmtb days ago. Sounds like more than a few of you may be deeply in love with Nico.

Tone it up old timer its time to shred buuudddddy. You miserables' need to release 15psi from your brain, shock and tires and pedal til you loose the hater mentality.

 what's up with that seatpost?
  • 20 6
1.It has surprisingly a lot of travel for a Reverb
2.It has a travel limiter because it has too much travel for anyone who isn't a brake-burner*
3.Due to such long travel, the bushing wear will increase so a buyer will need service parts more often

* and does not live in BC where I've been told everything is so gnarly that you need at least 150mm**
** I'm so full of shit

Yes.... You aren't dreaming. Waki did just admit he's full of shit.

@thecarpy - I went to all the trouble of logging in just so I could prop you

i'm getting real tired of your shit mr wayne....

The travel limiter is so the rider can put the seatpost in the "sweet spot" more quickly. That way s/he doesn't have to spend as much time fiddling with the lever. I'm guessing the rider doesn't want infinite adjustment, just one height for uphills and one for downhills.

In my opinion the sweet spot is "all the way down", but I do live in the Pacific Northwest (south of B.C. though).

I'm glad WAKI doesn't design dropper posts, there'd only be one size fits all.......................

 @mozz cheers dude
  • 2 1
That's called a normal seat post....

@WhatTobuy. No I would design 5 different ones, to meet the "industry demand". Between the 50mm and 250mm of travel to meet each riders size and the level of gnarr. 27.2 with shims so it fits all frames. Made out of high-modulus UD carbon, compatible with Garmin GPS for automatic operation. Otherwise Hydraulic actuation via anal probe. I'd call it T.O.S.S.®

Sweet looking bike, all black is possible again! I liked when Nico rode BOS, it had a bit of F1 touch to it. Can't wait to see them in action this weekend! Go Endaerpo!

not bad looking, hope when it's available you can get it with fox/shimano/formula though, not digging electronic suspension
  • 12 5
Leave the electronics for the lycra/spandex crowd. Keep it simple and pure.

2k pics, please. Not 1995 anymore.

Agreed, I'm trying to figure out how the rear brake caliper is mounted and I can't even see it...

Is there anything unusual going on with the seat/chain stays and rear dropouts? Or are they just big and flat? (A better picture would be nice.)

I am going to wait until XX1 is reasonably cheap before acquiring such a drive train. Still attempting to put a dent into X0's stuff, and hopefully not anytime soon. That's still a sick bike though!

Meanwhile over on bikerumour, there is news about the 2014 trek fuel ex 120mm and remedy 140mm 29er models including thanks to comments, links to dealers which have the prices/descriptions. The bikes are already in stock at trek and ready to ship to dealers.

Hmm prototype could be that only the paint scheme carries over to production. 27.5 650b can we call it goldilocks as its in the middle?
  • 3 2
Read about this on Bike Rumor. Looks like a better option than what Specialized has at the moment and will probably be much cheaper.

I'm really impressed to see how different this bike is compared to my Spicy 2013, 26inch.
