Lewis Buchanan

A well-known name in downhill mountain biking, the Scottish mountain biker, Lewis Buchanan will make the switch to enduro mountain biking in 2016 as the new member of the BMC Factory Trailcrew alongside Frenchman, François Bailly-Maître, Swiss rider, Lorraine Truong, and German, Kerstin Kögler.

Lewis Buchanan started his professional mountain biking career in 2010 at the tender age of 16. He arrived on the scene with a bang winning three World Cups in the Junior category between 2010 and 2011, and a bronze medal at the 2010 UCI MTB DH Junior World Championships in Mont-Sainte-Anne. Six years later, the Scottish rider is giving new impetus to his biking career by changing from downhill racing to enduro.

bigquotes It's a big change for me but I need it - and the new challenge. I am stoked to sign with BMC and be a part of the BMC Factory Trailcrew. I know that with the success of the brand not only in the enduro scene but in other disciplines too, that this is a great fit for me and will help me to reach my goals in 2016. - Lewis Buchanan

Lewis will ride a BMC Trailfox enduro mountain bike, and he is excited about racing a bike with 29er wheels. Being new to enduro and not having taken part in any EWS event yet doesn’t prevent him from setting ambitious goals for the 2016 season.

bigquotesThe equipment is great and with experience from the whole team, I feel I will learn the important stuff quickly. Enduro is an unknown area for me, so it's hard to set realistic goals for the season, but I know where I want to be. Being with a new trainer and having my training totally switched up has been really awesome and I'm confident with that program, my skills, and the team around me, I can crack out some good results and hopefully surprise some people. - Lewis Buchanan

The BMC Factory Trailcrew was formed in 2013 and since then, it has consisted mainly of continental riders.

bigquotes Lewis is a talented rider. He is part of a generation that I admire and love to watch. Everything looks so easy and simple for them. We will be helping each other - I'll share my racing experience with him and I will count on him to boost my own technical skills! - Francois Bailly-Maitre, leader of the BMC Factory Trailcrew

Lewis and François will take part in the entire Enduro World Series which starts in Chile on the 19th and 20th of March. Unfortunately, Lorraine Truong is still recovering from her brain injury after a heavy crash in Samoëns, France last summer so her return is not scheduled yet. Kerstin Kögler will focus on stage races and regional events.

bigquotes Having a new rider from Scotland, with limited experience in enduro racing, will bring some cross-discipline experience, and add a new lease of life to the group - hopefully producing some good results too! We are very committed to our trail segment at BMC, and having top class, international riders to collaborate with is key in the strategic development of this segment. - BMC CEO, David Zurcher

The bikes of the BMC Factory Trailcrew (the BMC Trailfox and BMC Speedfox Trailcrew) are equipped with components and parts from our long-term partners Shimano, Fox, Continental, Fizik and 3T. The team is proud to also be associated with Giro, Pearl Izumi, Lululemon, Julbo, Isostar, Elite and Motorex and new, for the 2016 season, the team welcomes Polar, Bliss Protection and V8 equipment on board.
