With sun, sand, sea and a huge amount of riding spots, California is the place to go for Dirt Jumpers in the UK and it has become an annual trip for Danny Pace, Adam Williams, Blake Samson and Ray Samson.
We left the UK early for an afternoon flight to Los Angeles, 11 hours later and we’d swapped the cold and rain for the heat. After picking up the RV we were on our way to Mike Montgomery’s house where we met up with Mike and Sam Pilgrim before heading to Woodward West.
We were greeted by snow when we arrived in Tehachapi for Woodward which isn’t the first thing you’d expect from California. Due to the weather we couldn’t ride the dirt jumps and the step up, but there’s plenty of riding to be had in the hanger with the foam pit, the ‘spox’, the spine mini and the box etc
After 2 days in Woodward we headed back down to San Diego for sun and a few different spots to ride. Blake and Sam headed to the beach for a sunset surf while Adam, Ray and Danny met up with Chris and Kevin Sorchetti to ride at Clairemont skate park before heading to Pacific Beach for some drinks.
We had heard a lot about Mike’s new spot before coming out to California. Because of the blinding sun there are only certain times you can ride it so we started early and headed North East. It was still boiling hot, so riding was a slight struggle for the pasty UK riders, but Mike showed us how it’s done with Blake and Ray following suit.
For the last day of the week we met up with Kevin and Chris Sorchetti who took us to their trails, which run alongside a canyon, next to a creek. We stayed at these trails for a while before having a bbq to end the first week.
Part 2 coming soon.
