Nove Mesto; what an incredible place for the XCO World Cup to start. Great fans, great course, great battles. #NOSHORTCUTS
bigquotesAt World Cup races it's all about the #huntforglory! These are the moments that motivate me to give my all so that I can achieve my goals. Nove Mesto, with its superb atmosphere and great riding is definitely one of my favorite races. I love to battle there. - Nino Schuter

Like most, I ride XC/Trail for the majority of my riding and DH/Enduro races here and there as they come. Both require such different amounts of physical and mental strength and then throw in some strategy for the XC racing and it's absolutely insane.

These guys are in such great shape it makes me feel like a fat slob, although, videos like these are so inspiring and make me want to go out and get stronger and faster.

I'd like to see a World Cup DH participate in an XC race and World Cup XC participate in a DH race, just for fun!

I've always been shocked at the downhill speeds of XC racers I've ridden with. Consider that they're usually taking technical sections at XC race pace with a seat post at full extension and 100mm of travel. Crazy.

I was lucky enough to do the BCBR with a former XC racer, who did the entire race with a 26", 1x10 trail bike and I believe a 38 tooth chain ring. He was fastest in the field down many of the "enduro" sections despite never having ridden them.

I think you are describing Tracey Mosely Smile

Don't forget Jared Graves! They should make a super human athlete baby together...

And the best of them all......John Tomac No disrespect to Jaredo or Tracey. Cheers

Tomac is from an era when riders rode everything though. Things are more specialised nowadays but yes, Tomac was an extraordinary all rounder

It always amazes me when I ride an XC race just how fast the top guys are all around. Sure they have lungs, but what they do to technical downhill aspects is awesome as well. These are not some spandex clad road nerds powering the climbs then running down the nasty stuff; they rip it all. It was not always like this.

"It was not always like this." The new generation is awesome to watch. Each year the tracks get more and more rowdy, it will be interesting to see how far they will take it.

"It was not always like this." You aren't kidding! Someone put up on You-Tube the "Wide World of Sports" telecast of the 1990 UCI World Championship XC at Durango, won by Ned Overend. Worth a watch to see how much things have changed. In fairness, it may just be the lack of multiple cameras, but the shots of a fire road climb, fire road descent, and "technical" switchbacks reflect a much tamer (but also less well groomed) course than today's XC.

But I guess the bikes have changed as well which allows the sport to drift into a more technical path

 Those crowds are epic.

Anyone know what's up with his bars? Couple shots, they look like low riser's but upside down?!?!
  • 1 0
When the Scott guys were in our office they said Nino basically wants his bars as low as possible. This is why (according to them) he's on the 27.5" wheels. He also has no top cap to get them even lower.
  • 1 0
Yeah, but it literally looked like the bars were flipped with the "rise" facing downward.
  • 2 0
These are Ritchey flat bars that allow +-5mm rise. It is normal in the XC field to run them like this. There are riders whith much more extreme setups than Nino. Look at Jaroslav Kulhavy's bike setup. His bars are bent down and bar ends are actually pointing downwards!!!

Mental and physical misery from the gun.
