Yep, is sponsors don't make a big travel bike, so don't think he had much choice. Although he a tough Manchester lad so I doubt he would have ridden a big rig anyway.
I think you mean Colchester mate. I've never heard a Manc who talks like Pilgrim. He's the stereotypical Essex boy (drives a white van - albeit a Mercedes, rave music blaring...) Probably wears bling and sells speakers from his van when he's not FMB touring. Top lad.
I thought Aggy would have a good shot at this one, shame. He's still the rider that has impressed me most this year (for his video parts, not competition)
I think they should have just postponed the event really, because we all know that a fair few of those riders could do more. But I didn't organise it, and it'd probably be a lot harder to postpone than I think :L
Considering the extensive Sam Pilgrim debate on the previous coverage of this event, that's a bad mistake to make...how can you get that wrong? I mean just listen to his accent
I have no idea who "Scott" Pilgrim is that you are talking about. But perhaps you mean Sam Pilgrim, and maybe before you post you get with the program instead of going off the deep-end!
Um think Pilgrim held his own. Some people could be eating there own words me thinks after giveing him no hope in coming anywere,7th is very respectfull.
Suspect reporting, particularly the country of origin - Kurt Sorge from New Zealand? Thought he was canadian. Also, was Mike Hopkins actually in the event? He's in a caption... Congrats to Dylan though!
he is canadian, read somewere he is from nelson BC...lots of huge typos in there. T-mac isnt canadian either he's from the States and Sam Pilgrim is from the UK
Holy crap! Has anyone seen the end of Cam Zink's 2nd place run? One foot flip that was almost a crash? He landed in the most crazy death wobble and crosses the finish with his nutsack on the top tube! Vital has the top 3 runs' videos posted. www.vitalmtb.com/news/news/2012-Chatel-Mountain-Style-Results,484
dont get me wrong, im a huge fan of sam pilgrim but he is far to arrogant! On a course like this, large travel bikes are required! So why is he using an ns soda with at most 160 on the front? Its no coincidence that the top three are all running dual crowns either, and thats why sam pilgrim will never win a big mountain competition; because he only practises on straight dirt jumps or in the skatepark
NS also has a freeride frame and you see a lot of riders not using dual crowns even at rampage. Maybe he is just used to single crown and 7th is a good score at this event.
yeah they do and im not saying that 7th is bad! But do the guys using single crowns win? They didnt at the last one cus cam zink used boxxers, and gee atherton and bearclaw both used fox 40's... yeah maybe he is used to it, but he says he thins hes got a good chance at winning; well not when he is using a bike like this on a course like this? To win, he will have to ride at rampage, and if he rides rampage on that, then he will snap in half, along with his bike
was the course as harsh and rocky as this one though? I think the point is that sam pilgrim is not good enough on the bigger bike, not good enough to win the fmb
thats the point im making though... if he cant control a full downhill bike the he shouldnt be riding the fmb tour, because two of the biggest point scoring events (this and rampage) require the use of the bigger bike
and theres also a hell of a lot of smaller events which only require a dj or slope bike and they still rack up points and keep the money rolling in for him. sam reynolds doesnt stand out to me as someone who can ride big, but pilgrim is comfortable, give him time and give him a chance seeing as ns dont do anything bigger than the soda. ( my bad if hes riding the soda slope i cant really see)
He came 7th and youre saying he shouldnt be riding the event? Thats ridiculous. Obviously by getting 7th place he has proved that he didnt need a massive DH rig to ride the course. I bet he pulled some amazing tricks too. Sure, his speciality is dirt jumping but I think hes proved hes can hold his own on courses like this. 7th place against the best in the world. Yeah, well crap.
Im not saying that 7th is rubbish, 7th is far better than you or i could ever achieve so good on him. But jm saying if hes going to win it against the likes of semenuk and zink, then he needs to becomw more fluent on a bigger bike
The picture of Cam Zink doing his signature spin is just like oh thats cool. then you realize how big it is and that hes backwards and your like wait. WHAT!!!
respect.
LOL, I was wondering the same thing about the first picture. Thought they were results and Semenuk didn't place. Hardly so, the dude is slick! Props to all the riders for shredding what is got to be one of the gnarliest courses around! Love it!
You can't win the overall without winning at least one of rampage and crankworx. Ergo, Pilgrim must practice on bigger stuff for a year or two if he is to have a chance. HE's got the skill and the balls, he just needs more experience
Another thing. Pilgrim is the best dirt jumper but unfortunately for him it's rampage and crankworx that offer the big points. I totally agree, crankworx in particular is unreal to watch. However, if the organisers decided to stack it in favour of dj he'd already be the champ.
AT mountain style he would have been on the podium if it ran its course. Only semenuk and zink are better at that stuff
After watching the videos of the top 3 runs I was not impressed, yeah everything is big and props to the riders for hitting some of that stuff, but from the coverage I saw the event just didn't do it for me, maybe it was the fact that the coverage was so bad or maybe it was the rain that kept the riders from reaching there potential,.....def looking forward to Crankworx this weekend
BTW, that wasn't Mike Hopkins in the pic, it was Gary Fisher
it's like there's a big fisted dirt troll wanting to pull you off your bike mid-air and eat you so you throw a crash pad on top of him- but he's still there under it ... waiting... for ..... you..... to fail
Settle down guys. It often takes at least a few days for an event video to be released, nevermind a few hours. Secondly, the event wasn't broadcasted live so there will be no full replay.
i hate to see Zink with a bike like that, i know he can shred in any bike, but dude, why a big bike company doesn't what to hire him ? anyway, sick event, props to the rider, they're all my heros !
Devon and I were both putting out edits each day of the event. Lots of coverage from it last year. Im sure weather factored into the less coverage this year as there was less riding by most riders
It's alright, no apology necessary. Fair enough, but your original comment came off as derogatory and arrogant to me, but whatevs, maybe it was just me. Haha, though I don't quite understand why I'm being called an idiot, maybe d-bag would fit better.
arithmetic mean also doesn´t fit.
Although he a tough Manchester lad so I doubt he would have ridden a big rig anyway.
Don't know who the hell I was thinking of?
I'm just bummed they weren't able to do a finals (they used qualifying scores because of bad weather)
Congrats to Dylan though!
anyway, sick event, props to the rider, they're all my heros !
